A well-known classic remade with a different style of movement, you must play Myst at least once before you die.
Original Myst was point-and-click, this remake is free-roaming with first person camera, as well as updated graphics.
The mysterious atmosphere woven by this game makes it feel truly unique, it is something special to experience when you play through for your first time. All environments are imaginative, ambient noises help you lose yourself in the world of the game with music kicking in at just the right moment for maximum effectiveness. Fantastic presentation.
Puzzles seemed to be the right difficulty to me, pen and paper are required to beat the game unless you have a really good memory. Best not to look up hints for this, unless you are completely stuck. Solving puzzles on your own is rewarding and makes you feel smart. Do not watch a playthrough of this before you play it yourself as it ruins everything.
Took me 8 hours on my first try, but gameplay length is subjective because of different people's capacity for solving puzzles. Obviously it is quicker the second time through when you already have all of the solutions written down.
Story is purposefully ambiguous, in order to feel myst-erious. Four different endings. Large amount of lore to be read in the library boks, if you're into that, done in journal-style writing with pretty pictures.
However, game was not optimized for a newer OS. It MUST be run in compatibility mode otherwise you will face low framerate and frequent crashing. I faced no problems after switching to compatibility mode.
Phenomenal game, one of my all-time favourites, very atmospheric. Go in blind if you plan to play it, which you probably should.
