Why we’re launching Sniper Elite 4 in Feb 2017

Dear Sniper Elite fans past, present and future!

We hope that you’re all enjoying the sights, sounds and megatonnes of E3! Of course we’re going to be in Los Angeles too with Sniper Elite 4 and Battlezone, so expect to see lots of live footage, gameplay clips and more over the next week, but we also have some more news too that we want to talk about...

Today we’re announcing that Sniper Elite 4 is launching February 14th, 2017.

When we originally revealed the game back in March, our plan was to release this year, and this was only reinforced when our pre-Alpha build was received incredibly well by those who got to see it at GDC in San Francisco.
Was it nerve-wracking showing the game for the first time, and quite a lot earlier in production than we normally do? Absolutely, but in the end we felt confident the game was where we wanted it to be. I’d go as far as saying the demo had some of the best preview feedback we’ve ever had.

So when we sat down recently to decide a launch date, we had a decision to make. Do we stick to 2016 as planned many moons ago, or do we give the team just a little more time to help them deliver beyond the promise that the game has already shown, to hone the game’s best features, or even add new ones that previously might have been left on the cutting-room floor?

It wasn’t an easy decision but for us it seems like a win-win for both Rebellion and Sniper Elite fans.

This is why we’re proud to be completely independent. Being independent means you can make changes when things are going really well, rather than just reacting when things don’t go to plan.

We know a lot of you will be disappointed that you won’t get to play Sniper Elite 4 this year, but we hope you understand our decision and enjoy all the new footage and details from our beautiful “Viaduct” level this week.

We’re also heading to some public shows in the UK and Europe in the near future, so look out for us there and make sure to say hello!

Thank you as ever, for supporting independent UK games development.

Chris and Jason Kingsley, Rebellion Co-Founders

About This Game

In the dark days of the end of World War Two amidst the ruins of Berlin, one bullet can change history…

Sniper Elite V2 is an award-winning and authentic World War II sniping experience. You are elite US sniper Karl Fairburne. Parachuted into Berlin amidst the Germans’ final stand, your mission is to prevent Nazi V2 rocket program technology from falling into the hands of the besieging Red Army. You must aid key scientists keen to defect to the US, and terminate those who would help the Russians.

Take advantage of authentic weaponry, learn how to stalk your targets, fortify your position, set up the shot, use your skill, patience and cunning to achieve your mission. Stealth gameplay is the key as you find yourself trapped between two desperate armies in a race against time.

Watch as the celebrated ‘bullet cam’ from Sniper Elite returns, bloodier and more gruesome than ever – skilful shots are rewarded with a slow-motion flight of the bullet, then targets are graphically rendered in X-Ray as the bullet enters and destroys your victim. Organs shred, bones splinter, teeth shatter, as the true impact of the sniper’s bullet is brought to life.

As World War Two ends and the Cold War begins, every shot counts. Use it wisely.

Key features:

  • Sniping Simulation - Sniper Elite V2 features detailed sniping simulation with advanced ballistics, taking into account gravity, wind, velocity, bullet penetration, aim stability and more. Guaranteed to provide players with the most realistic simulation of military sharpshooting yet available.
  • X-Ray Kill Cam - Amazing ‘kill cam’ technology showcases what really happens when a bullet enters an enemy’s body, allowing players to see hearts and lungs tear, livers burst, and bones shatter.
  • Authenticity - The game features authentic World War II Berlin locations as well as vehicles, weapons such as the Springfield M1903 the Gewehr 43 and the Mosin-Nagant 1891/30, and uniforms modeled after the original versions.
  • Use the Environment - The slightest changes in the environment need to be taken into account to move into the perfect position, observe the quarry, take the shot and slip away unnoticed.
  • Sniper's Choice - Players will often find themselves facing a choice of the perfect shot that leaves them catastrophically exposed or a more difficult route that means they can continue their mission.
  • Multiplayer Game Types - Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Team Distance King, Distance King, Team Dogtag Harvest, Dogtag Harvest and Capture the Flag.

New Content Available For Your Game!

Since its release, Sniper Elite V2 has been continually supported by Rebellion, adding new features and content - including an additional 10 free multiplayer maps.

Four additional single-player mission packs are available for purchase, including the ultimate sniping mission - Kill Hitler. Each DLC pack also contains 2 new authentic weapons for your arsenal.

The arcade game
Get shot by a MG34 from a Tiger and survive a hail of 7.92mm bullets!
Duel with Germans, close range with a tommy gun in a shot em' up way.
Be the sniper, except you aren't!
Listen to your computer as it dies trying to struggle with the Unreal Engine.
All this in a ww2 environment!

I don't understand why people recommend this game, but I guess this review will tell as it will be down rated because there are actually those who like this joke of a game...
For everyone else, steer clear of this!

You'd think a game about snipers would allow you to proceed in stealth if you are careful and patient.

Instead the developers met ever popular decisions like only spawning in enemy snipers if you leave your overwatch postion and cross the open market place without cover. Of course they are already magically alarmed and always know where you are, even if you took out everyone around in stealth by timing your shots with artillery impacts.

Being constantly forced to fight firefights which you only win because you have more health and regeneration is incredibly bland and boring. I was hoping for a good sniper game where patience, planning and observation are key. What I got here is a game with twitch based aiming and lots of bullet time.

And don't get me even started on the physics. It took me the entire first mission until I realized that I didn't have to lead my targets, bullets travel instantly.

I feel that the stealth element is way too suppressed by the action element.

The sniper - a highly trained and feared elite soldier, whose job is to use camoflauge and concealment to infiltrate, observe, and eventually put a SINGLE bullet downrange into a target that would otherwise be impossible. In Sniper Elite V2, you play some sort of commando who forgot to bring ammo for his tommy gun, but wait, luckily you have this scoped rifle. Seriously, if you, like me, thought you would buy this game to play the sniper, stealthily approaching your targets, hiding and waiting for your opportunity to slip past patrols, creating distractions, etc.... WRONG. Your job is to gun everything and everybody down. The only thing about this game that resembles a sniper is the scoped rifle.

Bought it because of the high ratings, didnt enjoy much, maybe its just me but this game just doesnt appeal to me at all ever since I started playing.

The combat is cool at first, but that slow-mo killcam gets repetitive quickly and soon feels very underwhelming (and sometimes even annoying). Also, considering this is a game built around sniping, the AI doesnt make sense. Things like :
-enemies just running in the open to change cover (for no logical reason) despite knowing there is a sniper aiming right at them
-enemies practically line up for your shots
Just makes combat feel very bland and doesnt make you feel anything like a sniper at all, despite this game being advertised so proudly as THE sniper game.

The story and foundation of missions are also very dumbed down to a point where all of them are basically 'go here and shoot bad guys'. There is too little diversity, the only challenge added after every mission is more enemies and tighter maps.

Overall I feel its a very lackluster game that is missing a certain.. 'life' to it. Feels more like an overpriced arcade machine tbh

Sniper Elite V2 was a fun game. The campaign was relatively short (see playtime) and the story was nothing special, but this game seems like a sniper-focused version of Wolfenstein. Who cares what's going on in the narrative? Let's blow the skulls off some Nazis (and sometimes Russians) in full 3D, X-Ray, zoomed-in glory. The levels in the game steadily increase in difficulty such that it's still enjoyable throughout.

I do have some gripes with the game, and I'm giving this a recommend more as an 'action' title than a proper stealth, sniper title.

Chief problem is the enemy spawn-in mechanic, and the general encounter-based set pieces of the game. Instead of having the whole level be your sniper playground, you have to eliminate one set piece. When you move forward (often out of a good position), poof! Enemies appear. You can even catch them popping into existence. Then onto the next encounter. I don't think this does the game any favours. Although I am not asking for a full open world like Crysis 1, if the entire level had the enemies spawned in, that would have been much better. Combine that with squad-based AI and reinforcement mechanics, and it really could have changed the whole game to a more sniper feel.

Not much side stuff or progression. You do get small sniper rifle upgrades, but they really are small. No skills or anything. You shoot some skulls, and you shoot some more skulls. That's all. Not a terrible thing, just simple. No side missions. There's two types of rather pointless collectibles that are just a chore.

It's a few years old now, and the environment, terrain, etc are not aging the best. If that's something that bugs you, perhaps the more recent Sniper Elite 3 would be better.

The game also has co-op missions and a multiplayer mode. I did not try these. Allegedly, there is no X-Ray killcam in the co-op mode, which... That's the main selling point gone right there!

Great game, got it for free so no complaints. Nice gameplay, good controls and gotta love those slow motion camera shots. The only downside is that I find the game a bit short, missions can be completed in 25/30 minutes.

Overall 4/5.
