I know many people consider this game a classic. And I can absolutely see why. The game is very story-heavy, it is a point and click, so it does mean you have to find certain objects/ click on certain things for your character to know what to do, etc etc - which can be sometimes a bit of a pain in the ♥♥♥, but that's like that in all PnC's. I do not think it's a bad thing to look up what to do in a point and click, if you get stuck. I see the story as the most valuable thing in games like this, however it is rewarding to solve the "problems" by yourself of course, sometimes you may just have forgotten what to do, and you find yourself running around looking everywhere, because you forgot that you told some guy that you were going to meet him at some place at that time. I have not yet completed the game in the writing of this, I'm only half way through, if I play it in the most general phase. The game is supposed to be around 20 hours long, and I'm around 10 hours into it right now, so, yeah. Anyway, I feel like writing it now, because it would avoid potential spoilers, and I'm loving the game "already".
As already mentioned, it is pretty long, I prefer the 4 hour long games before the 20 hour ones, even if it may be worth it sometimes, that's juat a general way of speaking, that I like 4 hour long games more. This game is absolutely marvelous, and the solutions to the "problems" are most of the time logical and not so stupid that you won't understand what to do at all, most of the time atleast. As said before, I don't think it's a bad thing to check walkthroughs if you get stuck in agame like this. The story is AMAZING! And I may not be s cuker for fantasy and all what this game now is (Not going to spoil anything... but the store page does have a screenshot of the first area you are in, which has a dragon in it...) but the story, and everything, is gloriously great.
The graphics are horrible to say the least, and francly, it lags pretty much (Or maybe, games were like this 13 years ago) all the time in cutscenes, and you do have black bars, and the steam overlay doesn't work, so if you want to chat, you have to alt - tab out of the game, and when you renenter the game is completely black, and you have to click on something (like the options screen) and reenter to make everything work again.
But any cons that it has, is just because it's an old game, and I can say, that well. It's all worth it, the story, is glorious. And since it's this old, it's very CHEAP, and you should probably pick the Longest Journey: Dreamfall up too, do it on some sale, get both of them in that pack, it will be very cheap, and very much worth it. I will play dreamfall when I'm done with this one, I'm sure it will be just as great, I've only heard great things about both of them.
UPDATE (after completion of the game): Graphical lag or animation lag seems to not be a problem anymore, either it went away, or I got used to it. It doesn't matter. The story was good, but the game was a bit long, a bit too long for my persoanl preferance. The ending was not very great if you ask me... But it wasn't that bad either. It's definately worth playing, if you haven't already. THe puzzles are very hard, and I cheated/ checked a walkthrough on most of them, simply because I don't care for the puzzles, I only care for the story. A big con was however the very long animations, for example just watch a dude walk over the entire screen for 2 minutes....... That animation could have been a bit quicker don't hyou think? Well, that's just a minor downside, which should not make you not play it. GO PLAY IT!
