This has been my favouritte game since I was a child, and I recently played through it again and still love it just as much.
It's an amazing story with all funny, dramatic and just stunning aspects to it.

I wanted to purchase Dreamfall Chapters which is a follow-up to The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. I thought that jumping in the middle of the story doesn't make sense so I decided to buy 'the first game'.

I can honestly say that from now on The Longest Journey is my favourite game. Yes, it is an old game and the graphics is not good... so what? I am a person who likes good graphics and visual effects but that didn't stop me from enjoying the game. The whole story and characters are ♥♥♥♥ING AMAZING. First ever well spent money on Steam Sale!

If you're thinking about playing this game, stop thinking. Just start playing.

Seriously good story, awesome characters, and an overall good time! If you're like me, you might need a walkthrough though.

I felt compelled to play this game after having completed its follow up Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and that is the only caveat I feel is necessary to recommend this game. If you have an appreciation for the other games in the series than the completionist in you is the only reason to play this game. Graphically this game has not aged well and works counter to the fantasy/futuristic atmosphere that the game tries to create. The lead character April is somewhat interesting and well voice acted but almost all the other characters get very little attention and with regards to how it ends completely forgotten about. As a point and click it's equal parts rewarding and utterly nonsensical but thankfully you can enable the ESC button in the menu to skip through dialogue, slow moving character animations, cutscenes (They are unintentionally laughable) and to transition from the various locations you visit (and from one side of the screen to the other).

Had this close to i think 2 years? Finally finished it (more than half of the game I played without a walkthrough), and this was THE BEST, most fulfilling end to a game I've had in years!!! The old 90s classic style is so inviting, and the extensive storytelling had me hooked, even though it took long because of life duties lol. I'm not sad it ended, because at least the ending was so worth it, even though it's weird to not be on the Journey any longer. Lots of twists and turns, no cliches, and really this game seems like it was ahead for its time. So if you want a game that makes you feel like the devs really loved making themselves, with rich storytelling and equally beautiful fantasy and sci-fi worlds, this game is definitely for you! I give this game 10/5 stars!! ♥

Here's a little background: I actually played Dreamfall before I played The Longest Journey. I happened to be unpackimg my original Xbox after moving and found a few games that I hadn't played yet; Dreamfall was one--it was still in its shrink wrap. I knew nothing about Dreamfall except it was an adventure game with a pretty girl wearing a pink tank top on the cover. It turned out to be an awesome game. Ater playing it, I wondered if there was a sequel and purchased Dreamfall Chapters and started playing. I then discovered that not only was Chapters being funded through Kickstarter, but there was a preceding game called The Longest Journey. I immediately stopped playing Chapters and downloaded The Longest Journey to learn about April Ryan's adventures that led to Zoe's adventure in Dreamall.

The Longest Journey is an old-school point-and-click adventure. Initially, this was a little off-putting, but I quickly got into the hang of it and playing it soon became second nature. The puzzles were fairly easy, though I did have to peek at a walkthrough once or twice--but I was more into uncovering the story arc than actually solving puzzles at the time. It was a fun game, a grand adventure, and thoroughly explained the events that led to the later games. I then went back to playing Chapters. You don't need to play The Longest Journey to enjoy Dreamfall or Dreamfall Chapters, but it does help bring the whole story arc together if you play them all. I wish I had played them in the right sequence.

If you're playing Dreamall Chapters, I strongly suggest youy play The Longest Journey first, then Dreamfall, before continuing Chapters.

this game didn't work correctly on my computer, it kept freezing, and I had to force close. It was a kind of odd game to begin with (talking trees and dragons) but interesting world. If I could play it, i would, but make sure that it will work with your computer before you buy. I have Windows 10.

The Longest Journey is one of those rare 90s (well, okay, it came out in 1999, sue me) games I've been able to play without having grown up with it. It has an utterly compelling story and some decent gameplay that holds up to this day despite being a point-and-click adventure game. April is such a likeable and relatable character throughout the game and her interactions with Crow, not to mention her sarcastic comments towards NPCs and her surrounds, help to keep you interested in what happens to her.

The game that started it all. The Longest Journey shares a great narrative about the world of science, and the world of magic along with the peril that exists between them. TLJ, along with Dreamfall: TLJ, and Dreamfall Chapters will definitly go down as one of the most memorable game series I've every played.

Just use an old spoiler-free guide when you get stuck...Don't frustrate yourself to be a "real gamer". Still do at least try and figure it out for a bit, though.

Excellent, excellent writing with a Strong Female Protagonist.

I must admit I was insecure at first due to the gameplay-style and the looks of it all. I do enjoy a good graphic, but this game is old ... THEN AGAIN, due to the fact that it's a little older it means there's only a great story behind it. I definetly do recomend this game to just about everyone out there, even though it's more for you who enjoy point-and-click, and some head-grinding games. It's not particulary difficult, even though I was stuck a few places... But luckily there's a walkthrough somewhere :)

This game was absolutely worth everything, I got it on sale, and bought the package including dreamfall, then happened to start dreamfall first (as I was insecure if it even mattered which one I started to play of the two,) and dreamfall has a much bigger and better upgrade in looks and everything. So starting this to finish it before I got to dreamfall was a bit dull at first, but now that I've played it through it was soooo WORTH IT!!!

So the two are connected, and dreamfall is the second. Enjoy this one first, you won't regret it. And the playtime is pretty long too, took me a good 30 hours to finish :)

Belieable story and voice acting, moments that made me realize you can take a simple story to far new levels.

I give it a big "Yes"!
