About This Game

YOU ARE THE DRAGON:
  • Scare villages!
  • Burn castles!
  • Collect gold and gems!
  • Kidnap princesses!
  • Roast pesky knights!
  • Fend off thieves!
  • Topple giants!
  • Build a hoard of treasure!

Your goal is simple, but challenging: build the biggest pile of gold that you can!
Every action you take will have an effect on your score in this “stratecade” game that 1UP observes “hides a surprising layer of complexity and strategy.” To be the best, you’ll need to fly deftly, upgrade smartly, and use powerups to your advantage. Most of all, you’ll need to control the kingdom around you: Burn the crops to the ground or let them grow? Keep towns in ruins or let them flourish? In HOARD™, the dragon is in charge.
In the words of PlatformNation, “Buy this game. Right. NOW.”

Published by : Big Sandwich Games
Developed by : Big Sandwich Games
Genre : casual/indie/strategy/action DRAGONS!
Release date : 4th April 2011

HOARD is a short, birds eye perspective, simple board style game where your sole purpose is to be a loot hungry colorful dragon that flies around, uses firebreath to burn down farms, mills, towns, trade carts and towers. With each thing you burn, you collect gold which you carry back to your lair to gain points. Not only that, but you get to kill knights and kidnap princesses. How awesome is that?
The aim of the game is to get as many points as possible in the ten minutes time that is allowed. That's it. Every game is ten minutes, and there is a variety of maps to choose from. With your treasure points, you can level up in each ten minute game, and choose different stats to boost. You can improve flying speed, flame power, gold carrying capacity, or your defence. You can't max all of them during a mission, so you level according to your playstyle. Do you like being a glass cannon that flies fast? Do you like being able to carry a lot of loot and tank everything? It's up to you.
It can be frustrating to play against friends as well since you can damage them and force them to drop their treasure if their health drops to zero. In Co-Op you can't damage each other. You can choose to play with your friends or against them, but in against, prepare for a little rage to happen.

Gameplay

It can be played as a singleplayer or multiplayer game, so you can play all with friends, or with one or two against the computer. It's actually pretty good as the computer AI isn't easy to compete against. This makes it just as fun alone as with friends, and because the games are always so short, it leaves you plenty of time to do other things as well, instead of needing to be committed to one game for hours on end.

Controls

Better played with a gamepad. Otherwise Keyboard WASD to move and your mouse to burn things. They are a little clunky at times.

Sound

The sound is relaxing, to the point you don't notice it as you focus on the game, it's perfect background noise. However, it can also be grating when your mission is nearing the end of the ten minute timer as it then becomes more noticeable, since it makes you feel oh dear time is running out help!

Overall Verdict

Though its a simple and small game, nothing to get committed to, it can be the perfect game after a long and hard day, and you just want to relax to something by yourself for ten or so minutes at a time not having to worry about anything other than collect treasure with your purple flying dragon.
And tell me... Who doesn’t want to be a dragon!
Score : 9/10

3min of this game
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jxgWqO3njg

you play as a fire breathing dragon, burning all you survey, stealing gold, and kidnapping princesses.
as your gold pile grows you can level your speed, fire, armor, or carry more loot.
modes of play include co-op, princess snatch off, biggest hoard in X minutes, or just terrorize the countryside but you need to watch out for knights, archers, mage towers, thieves, giants, and other dragons.

You set everything on fire and collect bajillions of gold coins you'll never spend.

So, it's like Elder Scrolls, except you're a fire spamming dragon instead of a fire spamming Breton.

A simple game. Easy to understand, hard to master.

Kinda reminds me of bullet hell games where your goal is to keep your multiplyer up and not get killed.

It is remarkably well done, but the gimmik it relys on is easy to be bored of. its a ton of rinse and repeat, with little to show for it since each new match starts fresh. I see plenty of fun in co-op, a more stable test of it all, but on single player it gets dull fast unfortunately.

I'd reccomend it as it is now however, as it is well worth the bundle price in my opinion, but be wary its a ton of repetition in it in the long-haul.
