Perpetual Testing Initiative

The "Perpetual Testing Initiative" has just been expanded to allow users to design co-op puzzles in Portal 2! This update also introduces a “Quick Play” feature, giving you quick access to the top-rated maps in various categories.

About This Game

Portal 2 draws from the award-winning formula of innovative gameplay, story, and music that earned the original Portal over 70 industry accolades and created a cult following.

The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game.

The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

Product Features
  • Extensive single player: Featuring next generation gameplay and a wildly-engrossing story.
  • Complete two-person co-op: Multiplayer game featuring its own dedicated story, characters, and gameplay.
  • Advanced physics: Allows for the creation of a whole new range of interesting challenges, producing a much larger but not harder game.
  • Original music.
  • Massive sequel: The original Portal was named 2007's Game of the Year by over 30 publications worldwide.
  • Editing Tools: Portal 2 editing tools will be included.

A woman with millions of fan theories about without ever speaking a word.
Intentionally designed to be stupid British cores.
Cruel women cores that are really good at singing.
Turrets with low self esteem.
A man that hates lemonade and sounds like J. Jonah Jameson from spiderman.
A potato that becomes your friend.

Combined together with the one of the most original gameplay ever.

Its little to say that this game is great.
But if Lord Gaben could count to 3 when it comes to making games, that'd be amazing.

Take everything you love about Portal, then times it by five. This game has so many good aspects to it, it's hard to know where to start.

Sound? Witty dialouge, excellent voice work, a really cool soundtrack, and even something as simple as the sounds that the portal gun makes sound awesome!

Gameplay? Addictive.

Story? Really good. There are some parts to the story where I genuinely felt threatened and isolated.

Graphics? Nothing to complain about.

Although Portal 2 is undoubtedly one of the best games I've played in a while, there are two errors that I find with it:

#1 There are parts in the game where you have to use the "zoom" key to find almost unfindable portable surfaces. I thought this gameplay mechanic was rather silly and annoying.

#2 There are parts in the game where the events that happen don't make much sense, and you wonder why you have to do certain things or why you're in certain places.

Overall this game is one of the best games of our generation, and it's loads of fun. It's good aspects overwhelmingly outweighs my tiny nit-picked errors.

Portal 2
Review by: DeliciousHotSchmoes

-Release date: April 19, 2011
-Genre: Puzzle-platform game
-Developers: Valve Corporation
-Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360, OS X, Linux

The Review

It goes without saying this is exceptionally one of the greatest FPS' games that doesn't require real bullets, targets and most other stereotypical mechanics that are found in that specific genre to make such a fantastic game. This game demonstrates what it always had shown in it's prequel; ingenuity and intellectual perfection.

Now imagine all those unanswered questions that linger within the first game, and how this sequel answers all those said questions with the utmost scientific explanations and entertainment from this one. From what I could honestly tell you, this game took the first games mechanics, and widened the story much more bigger and fluently better. Definitely worthy of Game of the Year 2011.

Much like my other short reviews on other peculiar Valve titles, where some happen to be other sequels, this game doesn't even need to be reviewed more in-depth due to the high magnitude and complete satisfactory found within this wonderful game. From what I could honestly tell you, this game is blessed with the voice acting of the high and mighty, Stephen Merchant, along with 2-player modes that'll leave the fun completely endless with a friend. I've said my word and it's a compulsed recommendation from me.

I have no idea why I waited so long to review this game. Here goes nothing, and I hope you rate this up.
-------------------------------
Intro
You know how when you are on vacation and say, "I am so glad it isn't winter right now."? Yeah, that sums up the power this game has on you. When you play the game, it is so...crisp (Vacation-like) and when you have to leave, it is like that miserable winter I was talking about.
-------------------------------
Summary:
This game, as you should know from some other reviews and through the fact that it is one of the best selling games of all time, leaves an effect on the player. It is a beautiful story-line. You play as a female test subject through the campaign. She (I won't spoil her name) is forced through many tests GLaDOS (a powerful robot who took over Aperture) has prepared for her. You learn a lot about this character as you portal around puzzles of rooms, and a lot is learned about yourself. The programed-to-be "idiot" (whom you will find out through the game) is something to look out for as you think he is helping you escape. It is a clever twist. You will learn that the industry you are escaping from used to be a shower curtain/part factory. Yeah, It will all make sense when you play.
-------------------------------
Multi-Player
Then there is the multi-player mode with Atlas and P-body who are trying to free the humans or whatever. That itself (with a partner) is totaly worth a lot of Friday nights. Now that they are implementing items/loadouts into the game (or hats/taunts/clothes/flags to those who are uncertain of the term), the game will be more interesting. Now, I may not have many hours, but I assure you that I have beaten multi-player in about 4 hours, and the single player in 3. I mean, the rest of my hours come from exploring more/community maps. And that is the amazing thing about this game...no matter how many times you have beaten it, it is still fun. Also playing multi-player with a different friend every time makes you find a lot out about their creativity/teamwork/leadership/meatal abilities.
-------------------------------
Other important things
The many achievements with variety are also something to look on about. There are many things you will NEVER notice no matter how many times you play unless you YouTube some of it. The deeper you dig into the storyline, the more interesting you find the game. There were many rumors that we are still uncertain of, which makes this excellent.

To dumb it down:
-------------------------------
Pros
Amazing graphics for a non-stop beautiful gameplay.
Wonderful audio and music for a great experience.
Well-designed maps and challenges.
Unlimited maps (user-created).
Fantastic story-line.
Many users own this game.
Holiday sales make buying this game super affordable.
Helps with cognitive brain activity.
-------------------------------
Cons
Limited story-line (I wish there was more to it, but there is always Portal 1).
Some levels take seconds while others take many minutes.
Limited exploration.
Restricted to the story line.
-------------------------------
My opinionated review
I would say the cons are so minor that I shouldn't even have mentioned them because it may not make you buy the game. DO NOT let that happen. Get this game. I recommend buying during a sale to get Portal 1 and 2 for a cheap price together for the full experience. This is a classic game and will go down in history as one of the best - revolutionizing the way we think/game. It was such an amazing thought that I hope you guys consider for yourselves.
-------------------------------
Rating
Out of 100, there is nothing wrong with this game. You may not like it if you aren't creative, don't have friends to play it with, or can't appreciate an amazing "Portal transportation" concept. But listen, you will fall in love with this game and stack hours to it. There is no community to worry about other than wonderfully made maps from users like you. Definately get this game if you don't have it - that being said, my review shouldn't even matter. I would give this a 97/100 after all of that. I hope you read everything before looking at my rating.
-------------------------------
Finally
Thanks so much for reading, so I hope you share the love and rate this review up, as it took some thought to make. If you are still wondering whether you should get the game or not...well it always will be a must-have, and YES! Get it!

If you don't think this is the best game ever made, then you are nothing but a battery operated potato. By the way, no cake for those who rate this review down. Thank you for cooperating with Aperture Science in our time of testing. We hope to work with you again, that is if you feel fantastic and you're still alive.

This is one of my most favourite games, it has an amazing and in depth storyline. The easter eggs like the borealis one are amazing. The plot twists aren't expected unlike most games where you know what will happen next. I'm a huge fan of greek mythology so when I found the oracle turret, my mind was blown! Cave Johnson was definetly a great character to introduce and to help us find out more about Aperture. THE ENDING, I absolutely loved the ending!!

10/10, all class. Easily in my top 3 games of all time, a genius game. The perplexing puzzles and thoughtful level design make this game so memorable. Sarcasm and Sardonic humor is sprinkled throughout. Never for one moment does any thing in this game seem like a lazy or poorly crafted addition. Everything works!

My partner and I taunted GLaDOS in front of the cameras, she got mad, and we were rewarded with an achievement. Shortly after, I told my partner to gesture and I killed him. Got an achievement for that too

Throughout the single-player campaign I was constantly surprised how clever you could use this "simple" formula of two portals, and I admit, I had to look one or two times in a walkthrough - still, it's manageable for others like me who don't solve puzzles often and I really liked the feeling of accompishment after solving a puzzle and the reward of getting a new piece of the (mostly silly and amusing) story ("lemonades").

And the coop-campaign: I don't know any other game where you solve puzzles this way. Really, it's a lot of fun and shouldn't be missed out either (if you have someone to play with). It was also one of the first games on Steam with Splitscreen support. Although it's only for two-player, I'm pretty sure that it also would be funny with three or four people locally, when everyone's trying to figure a puzzle out together and the gamepads get handed around.

Lastly, there's the Workshop integration, and boy oh boy, are there a lot of puzzles. There are very complex ones with custom terrain and more simpler ones, created with the later released simpler editor, and there's an endless supply of new ones. I acctually recommend trying the simpler editor out yourself, just to see how hard it is to come up with puzzles.

Anyways, this is a game that everyone should play, even if it's not your genre. Because this is one of those defining games others will draw inspirations from and have to be measured by for years to come. Also, it won't get a sequel, because 3.
