Is this a good game?
Short answer.... No.
Long answer..... No No No No No No No No No No No No.

The campaign takes about 40 odd minutes to play. Why then do I have 1.7 hours of game time? Because I found the gameplay so grating, so horrible, so absolutely asinine, that I would play for a bit, then pause the game to do something more interesting. I also had about 30-40 minutes of the game sitting idle before I started to play.

I am not kidding, 40 minutes (give or take).

As to the gameplay, it is bad. The aliens will shoot you over NPCs, even if they can't see you. Often the only thing visible from an alien is the barrel of it's gun, and then it shoots at you from any angle. I got shot from the barrel of a gun that I was more than 90 degrees away from. I found it annoying that I couldn't hold crouch, only toggle it. And I couldn't toggle iron sights, only hold it. Why no option to change these? The weapons were clumsy, there was no indicator to health, but you seemed to regenerate to full health between chapters, regardless of how much damage you suffered. Movement was tedius, and I am really sick of games that let you sprint only for pathetic amounts of time. In this game, you can sprint for about 3 seconds before you run out of breath. YOU'RE A FREAKIN' MARINE. How can you get out of breath so easily?

The animation of the game was bad. The cutscenes were childish, using a very bad animation style, and the characters looked nothing like their counterparts from the movie. Why didn't this game use still photos from the film? They used some in the initial TV report (though the news anchor was still animated).

And now we come to the real crux of the problem.

This game was just a really bad adaptaiton of the plot from the movie. Really bad. Now, the movie I thought was a good film. I even bought a copy of it. Basically a 2 hour war movie that happens to have aliens in it as the other side. It was fast paced and well conceived. Sure there were plot holes, but it was entertaining. But this game didn't need to try to be that movie. Why couldn't the game have been in that world, in that setting, but other troops doing other things? Why couldn't a different story arc be opened up through the gaming medium? If they had gone that way, then we wouldn't have had to stick to very finite strictures of the movie, no, the developers could have made a larger, more expansive and LONGER game.

But saying that, given how bad the gameplay was, it's probably a good thing that the game wasn't longer.

Honestly, 20 year old shooters play better.

I'm not even sure I can give this game a rating, it is that bad.

0.5/5

Thankgod I didn't get this at full price. Anyone who did buy this at full price, get a class action and sue the Developers for wasting your time.

I don't even know how this was funded and published. It's just an extended advertisement for the movie. The whole thing can be completed in a single hour. I have 3 hours in the game because I played it on each difficulty level. Considering I'm nowhere near a FPS expert, the fact that I could complete it on Hard is very telling of how easy this thing is.

It’s up and your team to draw a line in the sand and take on an enemy unlike any we’ve ever encountered before.

This makes it sound like it's going to be an awesome experience. It's not. Halo and Mass Effect have better alien enemies and combat. This game consists of three things: shooting aliens, shooting aliens manning the walkers, and shooting down drones. All of this is done with 3 weapons. I mostly used the sniper rifle when I could just because that's how I play FPS. But, it's so easy to headshot all of them. For the drones, it's just a matter of counting three barrages, peek out of cover to fire a rocket, then take cover to do it all over again. A couple of times a parked Humvee turret is used to gun down aliens and drones. Ho hum.

Key Features

This section of the About is really what is supposed to sell it, right? Well don't believe what you read.
  • Immersive first person shooter experience. - This one really makes me want to laugh.
    • Call of Duty campaign is more immersive than this.
    • Only part of it may be considered "AAA boxed product visuals". The comic book cutscenes are cringe-worthy. They have a 3D engine, the models, and the animations, yet they use comic book -- including Comic Sans MS. Considering the cutscenes provide quite a bit of the "story", it's sick.
    • I'm not even sure what "devastatingly deep" is supposed to mean. At no point did it feel like end of days or that I'd die at any moment.
  • Defend Los Angeles. - Okay? That's a key feature? Whatever you say...
  • Relive the thrill of the movie. - No. Just no. How can you relive the thrill in a repetitive 1-hour commercial? If you want to relive it, just watch it again. In fact, just spend the money to buy the movie instead of this. Also, those "characters" are very simplistic and repeat lines quite a lot during battle. They like to complain about being shot and hurt.

What's the point?

There really isn't one. Just repeat some objectives until it ends and you get the "Thanks for playing!" message. That right there is something I don't even see in short indie games. When I first encountered it, all I could think of was "wait. what?"

The only reward out of this whole thing is the Unlockables. Each difficulty level will unlock a subset of each category. There are concept Videos and Images, as well as "Mods". The latter includes Hollywood Mode (big alien heads), Double Physics, and Tough Guy. The mods try to add an element of replayability, but they just don't deliver anything special.

I knew what I was getting into

I didn't need to read the negative reviews to know what I was getting into. I owned this "game" on Xbox 360. I know I didn't pay the ridiculous retail price, but I don't know if I paid for it at all. So why did I get it again on Steam? Because it was in a bundle. Why did I play it knowing what it was? Even though there isn't any type of Steam reward (cards, achievements), I still played through it. I could've spent those 3 hours on something better, but I'm just weird like that.

Final Say

If you get this for $1 or in a bundle, go ahead and give it a go just so you can experience the cheese. If you're a FPS connoisseur, you might want to stay away because it would not suit your sophisticated palate.

Basic FPS based on the B-movie "Battle: Los Angeles". You can shoot, throw a grenade, sprint a very short distance, jump (although there is literally never a need to), crouch, etc. The cut scenes are done in sort of a comic book style, which I enjoyed. Not terribly difficult when played on normal, which is what I beat the game on. Unlockable bonuses include still pictures and video, nothing exciting.

The number 1 thing you need to know is that this game is super short, and not challenging. I beat it in 1 sitting in about 45 min, dying twice in the process. I probably could beat it again in 30 min. It is not going to light the world on fire, it is derivative, there are some minor pathing difficulties, etc etc. This is not a AAA title.

However, all in all, this is a pretty good game. I got it on sale for $2 and I feel like I got my money's worth. If you just want to turn your brain off for an hour and shoot aliens, this is going to work fine and I would recommend it on that basis.

This game was satisfying while I was playing it but when I got to the end within an hour of playing it I was extremely disappointed. I played on normal the first time around and finished it so fast I played it again in hard and finished it just as quickly. I messed around in it for half an hour just to get more time out of it but found it quite boring. This game was not at all worth the money for how short the story is.

This is where I wish there was a neutral rating button because I would certainly have chose the neutral option. The game worked out fine on my high performing laptop. But those cut-scenes were like straight out of a comic strip. So when it transition from comic strip cut-scene to an actual graphically cut-scene, it left me scratching my head and thought of "why this" type of questions. But besides all that, it was pretty decent. It tried to be like the movie but it definitely wasn't. Only the aliens, the ufos, and LA were true to its form. The voice acting was meh. The Battle: Los Angeles movie had a better cast than this video game (no offense). All in all, wait till this game goes on sale. It's not worth the $10. I bought it for $10 because I thought it would be removed soon due to licensing issues. (Looks at Konami about their licensing issue with Saw the video game on Steam).

This game is fun from what i have seen so far but for some reason when i play it the npcs helping me glitch out and they strech out all over with arms that are at least 20 feet long. It also looks like triangles of paper are covering my screen when i play. Maybe its only because im playing on my crappy laptop. I would reccomend this game 9/10 but the price should be in my opinion lowered to $7.99.

This game, if you can call it that, is prob one of the worst "games" I´ve ever seen, heard off or played.

Took me 47 mins from start to finish, thats it yea 47 mins on the hardest level possible.

This is supposely build on the movie, but honestly BUY THE MOVIE and save your money.

Grahpics, sound, voice acting all of it is soooo wrong this is the first game out of over 3000 that i´ve directly uninstalled right after a playthrough and the first I do not recommend at ANY given point, save your money for something else!

Well.. what can I say.
Not too bad for a B shooter. Very linear though, get pushed down the 'tunnel' but the older havok effects are still nice. Basically get 3 weapons throughout the game. Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle and RPG. Just point and shoot with no fancy bullet drop and such of course. Controls are a bit backwards but remapable (press e to use ironsight) Voice acting is acceptable.
Now to the main problem. The length.. This game lasted all of about 40minutes on hard. I'm really quite shocked. :)

Would I recommend it? Not really, no. Only for the collectors.

crappy movie make's for a crappy game.
vary short about 1-3 hours.
3 weapons (assult-sniper-rocket) + a mounted gun.
2 kinds of enemies - 1) base alien (sometimes have a walking gun) 2) air ship

the story was slightly different from the movie.
it'll get removed since its a licensed movie game. <---if your a collector *wink**wink*

I beat this game in 43 minutes. It's short. It's basically a clone of COD style single player. Except only weapons are m16, sniper and bazooka. It's not terrible, it's certainly uninspired, there are ♥♥♥♥♥ier games, but the point is there are better ways to spend your money on steam.
