A DEEP SPACE ADVENTURE BY SEAN CLARK IN COLLABORATION WITH FILMMAKER STEVEN SPIELBERG

An asteroid the size of a small moon is on a crash course toward Earth, and only NASA veteran Boston Low has the expertise to stop it. Along for the ride are award-winning journalist Maggie Robbins and internationally renowned geologist Ludger Brink.

Once the wayward asteroid is nuked into a safe orbit, the trio conducts a routine examination of the rocky surface.

What they uncover is anything but routine.

Low, Brink and Robbins unwittingly trigger a mechanism that transforms the asteroid into a crystal-like spacecraft. The team is hurtled across the galaxy to a planet so desolate, Brink is moved to name it Cocytus, after the 9th circle of Hell in Dante’s inferno. The bleak landscape was obviously once home to a highly evolved civilization, with remnants of sophisticated architecture, advanced technology and an intricate network of underground tunnels.

But no Cocytans.

Who were the original inhabitants of this once rich empire-turned-wasteland? What are those apparitions that mysteriously appear from time to time? Why have Low, Robbins, and Brink been brought to this place? And how can Low keep his team from unraveling in the face of such uncertainty? To return to Earth, they must dig for answers, both on the planet’s surface and deep within themselves.

From the combined talents of LucasArts and legendary Steven Spielberg comes an epic adventure that plunges headlong into the very core of the unknown. And takes you with it.

  • Nearly 200 locations and hundreds of puzzles
  • Robert Patrick of T2 as the voice of Boston Low
  • Special effects contributed by Industrial Light & Magic
  • Dialogue contributed by award-winning sci-fi writer Orson Scott Card
  • Alluring Wagnerian musical score sets the epic tone

Criminally overlooked point & click adventure. One of the best ever created.

I really loved the story in The Dig.. They even added voice acting in it.. It's an old game, but that should'nt stop you from trying it out, its a great point and click adventure with a good story. It deserves to be recommended imo.

It's a great classic point-and-click adventure game from LucasArts. I've also played Full Throttle and Full Throttle is in my experience a much better game. The problem I had with The Dig is that some puzzles we're way too hard and time consuming. But that's also the beauty of these kind of games. The puzzles can't be too obvious and it should be pretty hard to figure things out. You don't want to just come in to a room and finish everything in it; in the first few seconds. So anyway if you want a nostalgic trip back to a good 90's point-and-click game written by Steven Spielberg, you can't go wrong with The Dig!

This is such a good game. A total classic point-and-click game with excellent music, graphics (for it's time) and voice acting. The store line is so complex, amazing, and not at all what you would expect. The puzzles are challenging, and yes, there is some "back-and-forth" that is required, (i.e. you will have to go from one side of the game to the other to get an object in order to move on). The back-and-forth though, while mildly annoying is totally worth it, in the context of the puzzles over-all, and the plot which continually makes you question, "what is going on here?"

One of the best made games of the era in my opinion. Play it if you're a lover of classic point-and-click, or if you've never played a classic, PNC, you should take a break from the "moderns" every once in a while, and see what modern games have been built upon :)

'The Dig' charts the otherworldy voyage of three astronauts in their attempt to make heads or tails of mysteriously neglected alien technology after being transported there from an orbital mission above Earth. With LucasArts developing and a combination of Orson Scott Card and Steven Spielberg writing the game's story, you would expect something of a fairly high calibre. Unfortunately that isn't the case.

Atmospherically the game is rich - pretty backgrounds of pixelated coastal seascapes and alien sunsets accompanied by a wonderful ambient score which benefits from rich infusions of Wagnerian excerpts (the third track 'Ghosts' is sublime). The history of the defiled planet is intriguing to say the least, and labouring to uncover the secrets is... sometimes fun. But what drags down the game are the repetitve puzzles (I was absolutely sick of the rods), the embarrassingly dated animated and 3D sequences, the sub-standard dialogue, and a cast of vacuous characters. The ending which I chose was an incompatibly sappy finish to an otherwise cynical and forlorn narrative, but the other one could be better - it's not like I could saved right before the end and watched both, since there's no way to save your progress from within the launcher. It was an admittedly tiring straight six hours.

If you're a fan of point and click adventure games then this is half-heartedly recommended, but if not then it's maybe better to just leave it alone.
