This is one of the first games I ever had a hype for and one of the first games I remember playing a lot. I remember when my parents bought me the floppy disk PC version when I was around seven years old. Back then I loved anything related to Indiana Jones, and I remember being very obsessed with the myth of Atlantis. I have really lovely memories of that game, and I would really, really like to recommend the Steam version.

But I can't, for the following reason:

This game had a music score I loved, and it has been completely destroyed and tarnished in this Steam release. It's horrible. It's like someone took a sh*t on my precious memories in the form of the most horrible, ridiculous, funny sounding MIDI joke. When the main theme starts it's like I can already picture an orchestra of toy monkeys with their hats and sh*t eating grins, playing their toy instruments in the background while laughing at me and my precious, now completely violated memories of what this game was for me. Torture guys, torture. It sounds really, really bad compared to the original release. It's like what happened with the music in the PC Final Fantasy versions, but worse. Horrible. Sh*t tier MIDI crap here, guys. I am so sad.

Until I find out how to make it sound better (looking for soundfonts and the moment, but each one sounds even worse than the other), I am afraid I have to give it a negative review.

PS: The GOG ScummVM version sounds perfect.

(From my blog at fredcasdensbasement.com)

The year is 1939...

A Mr. Smith has tasked Professor Henry 'Indiana' Jones Jr, with finding a lock to match a key he happens to have... but it's all apart of plot... for Mr. Smith is Klaus Kerner of the Third Reich and they are searching for the lost City of Atlantis! This my friends is how the adventure that is Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis begins....

Release in 1992 (on floppy disk and later CD-ROM with audio) from Lucas Arts, this is one of my all time favorite computer games. I have a real soft spot for the classic Lucas Arts games like this, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Day of the Tentacle and Sam & Max Hit The Road, the simple but effective point and click, puzzle games were things that quite grew on me... and something I remember how to play (as you can see in the replay video of a live stream covering the first third of the game over the period of two hours while going for the 'team path')

So what is it about this game from 24 years ago that makes it worth playing? Well for one it is an Indiana Jones adventure, it has the look and feel of something grand, even if the graphics don't really convey it, the story tells it wonderfully.

There is a lot of replay value, with various dialog choices that have different reactions, plus there are three different paths, one a team path with Sophia Hapgood, one where Indy is solo and is heavy on the puzzles, and one where Indy gets into fights along the way. While each path starts and ends the same, the middle portion of the story varies.I personally prefer to Team Path, because Sophia and Indy have great chemistry as characters, and when you think about it, all the Indiana Jones films see him with a sidekick. Plus it means taking breaks for some side-conversation and getting insight on what to do.

Adding to the replay value is the 'random' factor, as if you play through the game once and play through it again with the exact same choices, some events happen slightly differently, such as herding the jungle rodent towards a snake (why did it have to be snakes) sees the rodent start off at a different point every time, the collection where the Lost Dialog of Plato is found varies not to mention the location (It could be in a wax cat, in a tipped over book case, behind a totem pole), what the shop keeper would wand in a trad for a Squab on a Stick and the combination of the Sun, Moon and World Stone can change.

And because of all these things, I think the game has aged very well and the same could be said for a lot of the Lucas Arts point and click games. It's why I hope at some point more of them get ported to Steam at some point, because these are games that should be experienced and enjoyed in this day and age.

I still remember this great game on CD-ROM for our good old Windows 3.1 when we got it. This game, to me, is the epitome of LucasArts games.

For newcomers: This game is a classic and debatably one of LucasArts' greatest games---if not THE greatest game, according to some fans. The story, puzzles, appropriate amount of humor, atmosphere, and replay value are up to par. It just never gets old. Plus (though this is personal) I always thought the puzzles and solutions in FoA made so much more sense than any of the Monkey Island series. "Monkey wrench" anyone??? Anyway, at first glance it will no doubt feel ancient for the current generation---Aesthetically it is very outdated and has aged badly---. If, though, you can get over that part and appreciate the artistic/entertainment quality of the game, you will most certainly be glad to have experienced this game. I still don't know why they made a HD remake of Monkey Island but not for Fate of Atlantis.

For those who played the old version: While some remember the game before it had the voice talents, I was introduced to the version with voice actors. So this is no problem to me. In fact, it wouldn't be the same without the voices to me. The only flaw in the Steam version is that the music is very different from the original. The music is the same as far as score goes (I think), but the quality is different. It sounds more digital and cheap. For someone like myself who really enjoyed the sound/audio of the original, this sole flaw is a huge one. Needless to say, the game is still great.

I remember playing this game when it was first released back in the early 90s, and I couldn't wait to play it again once I heard Steam had it. Very few of these classic games aged well, thankfully this one did; there are a couple minor dialogue parts missing, but other than that it's just like how I remember. It's one of the few 8-bit strategy point & click games that can be played over and over, and never get old.

I remember when I found this out in the extras after buying Indiana jones and the staff of kings (link to Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones_and_the_Staff_of_Kings, go check it out!) and I thought this was going to be a few levels of pixelated fun, so I gave it a go, a few hours later I started to realize this was a full-fledged game, and I was speechless, I was already about halfway through and I was still loving every bit of it, the only reason why I stopped was because the Wii remote wasn't very good at this part: https://youtu.be/4494coo4Myw?t=4m1s , then I gave up on it never to use the extra again, then about 2 years later, (about a month ago) I found this, I was delighted! And so I gave it a go, and it aged really well. I haven’t gotten to the balloon part yet, but let’s hope it isn’t as hard.

Recommended? Definitely

2nd play through? Go ahead, the puzzles are randomized, and you can get a few different endings.

Fun game? Depends on what you enjoy, if you like the Indiana jones series and want to forget that train wreck of a fourth movie, this is the game for you.

Rate: 9/10,

but that's just my opinion.

Amazing!
Definitively a must play for all Point & Click fans.

By far one of the best in the genre, if you are familiar with Lucas Arts games and you have no played this one, it's a must.

Really gives a sense of satisfaction when completed! Beware that there are multiple endings!!

This game I have to say is one of the best best graphic adventure games I have ever played. The story is gripping , the lore on par with Broken Sword 1 , and the art is just beautful... Plus Nazis. This game really has it all, now there were momments or frusturation, but thats part of these games , all I can say his pick your stuff up after you use it, it'll save you a lot of time... Voice acting is supurb' , the fighting system works, multiple routes of action, multiple endings , great diolouge, laughter! I could really go on for a while. Do your self the favor , if your already looking at it you know you want it!

Fun game? no never.
Worth playing? yes
Recommend it? No
play it a second time? NO!

even though the game offers 3 differnt paths Brawn,Brains or teamwork with a Random chance based puzzle choice none of the puzzles give a rewarding sense of achivement and therefore have no need to warrant a replay, I loved Sam and Max, i loved Full throttle, and other Lucas arts games. this was a serious let down and dissapoinment

Annoying and teadious, for a game thats over 20years old this hasnt stood the test of time well. You should be forced to play it just so you know the pain and agony, "this is is what we had to put up with" tearing your hair out while smashing your face agiainst a wall seems more fun.

This game is one of the point and click adventures that won me over to that genre in the early 90s. The character-design, the story, the setting and - of course - the humour are superbly done. Even the midi-soundtrack is evocative. In the game you can choose, in which way you want to tackle the adventure. You may use your wits or your fists. If you liked "Monkey Island" or "Maniac Mansion", you will probably like this game as well, although Ron Gilbert was not part of this project.
In my opinion the story of this game would have made a nice blueprint for a possible fourth movie of that franchise, well it´s too late for that now...
Let´s get on with it... detedete detede detedete detededede

Lucasarts was known for creating some of the most memorable adventure games of the 1990s, from Sam and Max Hit the Road to Day of the Tentacle. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is easily near the top of the list. Play as the world's most famous archaeologist as he wards off the forces of evil and searches for the lost city of Atlantis.

The game features classic Lucasarts colorful graphics, a great musical score, and terrific voice acting, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is a all-time classic adventure and should be in every gamer’s collection.

This might be my nostalgia speaking, but to me this will forever be the TRUE Indiana Jones 4.

If you have any interest in Indy, you have to play this game. The plot, the mystery mixing history and mysticism, the nice touches of humor, the nazi villains, some nice action and twists... Arguably, it is sometimes even more "Indiana Jones" than the original trilogy movies themselves!

This game also has a pretty unique feature for a retro adventure game : the story actually branches at one point, giving you very different playthroughs. Some puzzles are also randomized. This helps replayability a lot.

Bearing with the old graphics of this game is entirely worth it. Unless you truly can't stand seeing some pixels, the dated technology should not stop you from enjoying a true Indiana Jones adventure.

If you read this, you care about the Indy franchise, don't you? Then just play this. You won't regret it.

Disclaimer: No refrigerators were nuked during the playing or reviewing of this game.

This game was great! The game looks great, for a classic LucasArt adventure game, and the voice acting is actually pretty spot on. The puzzles can be a bit challenging, but luckily there isn't a moment where you have to start the game over because you didn't get that one item you were supposed to get in the last section (Shame on you, Last Crusade). Also, there are three different paths to beat this game: the Team Path, The Wits Path, or The Fists Path. I personally chose the Team Path, because then the puzzles aren't too demanding, since you have help, and you don't have to worry about the fighting system. Also, Indy has to have his lady :). The fighting system is greatly improved from Indy's Last Crusade, but thats really not saying much, since it couldn't have gotten worse. Not only are there multiple ways to accomplish tasks, but there are two different endings, depending on what kind of Indy you want to be. Overrall, this was a great game, that I know I will play again for the different paths. OH, and different paths mean visiting different locations!
Honestly, this should have been the fourth movie. They would have to have tweaked it just a bit, but this should have been the film. The love/hate relationship between Indy and Sophia is real and genuine (I loved seeing Indy grab her for that "we saved the world from the Nazis kiss"). Also, its Indy against the Nazis, the ones we love to see him fight. The script is strong and believable. Just a fun great game that all adventure gamers should pick up, at any cost.

UPDATE: My play time is not accurate, since I played this game on the SCUMM engine. I used my Steam file and loaded it to SCUMM, which greatly improves how it looks and sounds. My overrall playtime would be between 6-7 hours for a first time.

This is definitively a classic game you should play. At least if you are a fan of point&click and Indiana Jones.
Don't judge the graphics, the game is from the 90's.

I played it in window mode. But be warned, if you click outside and have an overlapping window there might be the chance you will not see that area when clicking back to the game. Clipping is computed differently ;-)

For such an old game the graphics are awesome. A lot of small easter eggs and funny scenes can be found. Sound is like it was back then.

For starters, I was not born around the time of old point and click adventures like LucasArts', but i would imagine that many people played them. why? Because LucasArts made what are quite possibly the best story driven point and click games. Where to begin? The graphics are as they were 20 years ago, and yet they still feel fresh, so nostalgia will hit hard with older gamers. I have not played the original, so I am not sure if this version is different in any way, but it has the original music, voice acting and graphics, so I assume it's the same. Even though i was born around the time where they started moving on to making more Star Wars games (which were mostly good, and one of them is one of my most favourite games of all time), I still wanted to try these. Last year, I saw a show with a segment about LucasArts' history, and they talked about games like Loom, Indiana Jones And the Fate Of Atlantis, Full Throttle, The Secret Of Monkey Island and many more. And I always like games with a big focus on story lines, and I decided to try them since it would be a break from Call Of Judy or whatever generic shooters are called these days. So I found a bundle with a few of LucasArts' games, and while the controls are a bit fiddly at first, I think Loom, The Dig and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis will keep me playing 'till the credits roll because of the stories that just make you reflect after the end. It's like reading a book, you say you will read one chapter, and then you read the whole book. It's games like these that make me wish I was born in 1990. Nowadays it's all about pwning n00bs in halozone with masterchef or something. Sorry for the long review about me saying how much i like the stories in these games, But after all, the one thing that sticks around in your mind about a game, is it's story. Thank you for reading.

Edit: Another thing about their games, is that the writing is so good, It's always full of humour.

Another LucasArts classic point and click game. I played the game when it first came out back in the early 90s. One part I thought was great about the game was the different paths Indy could take that would ultimately lead to Atlantis, providing some replayability. Now all that needs to be added to Steam is the Day of the Tentacles and Sam & Max Hit the Road!

I loved this game as a kid when it first came out and think it has held up quite well (aside from the graphics). Indy is in rare form searching for the lost city and his wit always delivers. He races against the Nazis (again) to locate Atlantis, which they believe is the source of "orichalcum" - a metal that produces immense energy at no cost and could potentially be used for war power.

During the first part of the game he is accompanied by the lovely psychic Sophia Hapgood, who provides him with acerbic banter. The second part of the game allows you to choose one of three paths: 1) Wits, 2) Fists, or 3) Teamwork. Each path is completely different and invites you to replay the game each way. Wits and Teamwork are my favorite.

In sum, "I think it's mayonnaise, but it looks like used motor oil."
