Had this game since 2008. This is one of the finest Star Wars games as well as one of the best FPS shooters of its time; heck, it's 2016 and it's still mindblowing how much of a quality game Republic Commando is.

My only wish for this game is for it to be remastered. Take whatever DICE did with graphics and sound for BATTLEFRONT and apply it to this game, add up to 4 player co-op and reboot the servers for multiplayer skirmishes, add a couple of extra gamemodes like wave survival and extraction and I can guarantee that it would sell like hotcakes.

Republic Commando is not a very deep or unique game, but it is challenging and pleasent to play! The multiplayer doesn't work, but the single player is engaging, and may surprise you. Enemies take a long time to kill and there are lots of times where the game feels like a "bullet hell" game because of all the enemies coming at you, but it just adds to the challenge. If you like clones, Star Wars, and single player fps games be sure to check out Republic Commando!

This game brings back so many memories. I still had the CD, but it was too old and broken, and then i saw that it was on stream i almost screamed.
I'm very happy that i can play it again and take a trip down memory lane :) If you get a chance to play it, go for it!

This game is by far one of the best squad based campaighn games ever. It has great gameplay, fast pace combat, and a little humor. The only bad thing that I see about it is that there is no co-op feature. Despite little flaws this game is one of the greatest star wars games yet.

Just like with Call of Duty; World at War, every time I tried to play this damn game something happens and I’m unable to. Either computers blowing up or me lacking the interest to go through with it, I always stop. Well, I got this game on a gigantic Star Wars pack a good time ago and I finally went through it, to finally see what it has to offer. And as usual, I’m gonna talk first about what it does worst, then move up from there.

First and foremost, the story. They had a perfect opportunity to fill parts the movies didn’t really show about these damn iconic troopers. And what did they do? Waste it. Sure, you get to fight on the Geonosis raid on the first stage, but you never get to see anything else from the movies, no Samuel L. Mace Windu Jackson decapitating mandalorians or anything. And up from there, it’s just a few set pieces that are quite disappointing. I MEAN COME ON, I WAS SERIOUSLY HOPING TO GET TO SHOOT OBI WAN AFTER THE ORDER 66, BUT THE GAME NEVER GOES ANYWHERE!

Second, the weapons are… Meh. The initial idea is actually quite f#cking interesting, a swiss-knife kind of deal, your weird gun is actually a ton of different kinds of guns. I liked that! However it barely does anything original with that, the guns are the most uninspired cr#p you can think: generic spamming rifle, generic 1-headshot-kill sniper rifle, generic OP-Grenade launcher… And the worst part is that you can pick alien weapons and add them to your arsenal, which sounds cool until you notice how BAD they are at everything! I WAS HOPING SO MUCH THAT THE SHOTGUN COULD MAKE THE GAME FUN, BUT IT’S JUST THE WORST AGAINST DROIDS! AT POINT-BLANK RANGE! YOU DO MORE DAMAGE BY PUNCHING THEM!

Third, the squad mechanics. I personally think this game was ahead of it’s time on a bad way, this game SERIOUSLY NEEDED COOP. If it had, you would have Star Wars Left 4 Dead. However with just single player and a dead multiplayer mode (that kinda sucked anyway), it’s not so fun because their AI is as dead as progress with Half-Life 3. Giving them orders is cool at first, then you’ll notice how it never brings much new from what you see on the first 10 minutes of the game. It also doesn’t help that they’re stupid.

The PC version is also a weird port made in the deepest areas of hell. Some of the stuff the devs thought were okay for PCs make me want to look for them and shove my computer up their #ss.

Lastly, the stages themselves. I’ve already said that there’s not much to the story, right? Well, the stages are also quite small. And when I say small, I really mean small. What engine does this game use? Did they really have so many limitations? Every 2-4 minutes there’s another loading screen, and those 2-4 minutes were mostly just struggling to advance a large corridor. The game also barely has different themes going for it. There’s the initial Geonosis level. There’s an abandoned ship in space. There’s the Wookie planet. Another ship. And that’s it.

So, does the game actually have good stuff going for itself? Kinda. At times…

The characters themselves on your squad are not so bad. Sure they’re clichéd as all hell but I rather have 4 clichéd well written characters than a billion bad ones (LOOKING AT YOU, JAR JAR). Also the squad mechanics are cool when they’re first shown.

The music and sound department is quite good, truly feels like taking out from Attack of the Clones, which helps feel better about the rest of the poor game.

The enemies are also quite nice. They never truly feel broken, and are actually entertaining to fight against… Excluding the classic moments when HORDES OF UNLIMITED DROIDS ARE SWARMING YOU AND THERE’S LITERALLY NOWHERE TO HIDE FROM THAT CR#P.

Personally, this is disappointing. No wonder there was never a sequel, it doesn’t feel properly finished. Do I recommend it? Save yourself the disappointment, and ignore it. I don’t really think it’s worth paying money for this. I was happier thinking that back then I was just half-way through the game and it actually could get interesting, playing through it to the end today made me see that I was 2 loading screens away from a really disappointing ending.

TL;DR Edition: A great idea gone down to hell and back thanks to both a bad PC port and feeling empty and unfinished. The story is short and will make you feel like committing space-sudoku. If you don’t get it for free, I can’t really recommend this. Coop could’ve saved the game, sadly it’s mainly single player with a dead multiplayer option.

Great game, but for some reason I cannot use my controller. I try to set the controls in settings for my controller but it only lets me use keyboard and mouse... suggestions? I can use the controller for my other games and demos but I cant for the life of me figure out how to use the controller for this game... I know a lot of you are probably die hard keyboard and mouse gamers but I would just rather use a controller, I am not very good with keyboard and mouse.
