Give Me Your Elevator Patch (v1.03)

  • Keyboard commands used in the game can now be fully customized from the new Keyboard Options menu — va pnfr lbh rkvfg va n ebg-guvegrra jbeyq, fnl
  • The speed of the player’s horse can now be altered in the Options menu, fstr or ssslowerrr
  • The brightness of the game window can now be adjusted in the Video Options menu

  • New, safer, code is used to save the game — this should prevent players from (rarely) ending up with a save file filled with zeroes
  • Short on space? West of Loathing now takes almost 50% less drive space than it did before (we packed the 0s and 1s much closer together)
  • Short on time? The game now loads 80% faster, so you spend more time playing and less time not playing
  • Short on RAM? Memory usage has been reduced significantly — this may help with some crashes on older PCs
  • Short on patience? Don’t bother reading the plaques in Shaggy Dog Cave

  • Corrected a bunch of typos, let's say... 37 of them
  • One of the silly walks is now slightly more silly
  • The cowbell fights at Hellstrom Ranch now count as cow fights for Susie-leveling purposes
  • Drinking a perfect cup of coffee will no longer prevent subsequent cups of coffee from giving you their effects (but you will still forever know how far they fall from their Platonic ideal)
  • When You’ve Had Your Coffee, your maximum Action Points will now properly be increased

  • Pete's Dark Whisperin' no longer ignores enemy Spooky Resistance
  • Fan Hammer no longer causes goofy combat log messages after killing unguliths and other ungulith-like things
  • Kurtzian Charm is a now a perk and on par with the other Kurtzian perks
  • Completing a certain quest no longer prevents the Chastity Pants from doing their chastity thing
  • Gary and the player will no longer speak for each other at the Alamo — don’t you forget it!

  • Created a Steam Controller profile: steam://controllerconfig/597220/1118485857 (Full, real controller support is still in the pipeline)
  • A bunch of small bug fixes that we forgot to write down (sorry!)
This patch took forever for a bunch of reasons too boring to elaborate on here. Thanks for your patience!

Patch Adams (v1.02)

  • Corrected a bunch (23) of miscellaneous typos
  • Changed a bunch of Riff's "woah"s and Zack's "whoah"s to "whoa"s – it's the children who are wrong
  • Going back to the title screen from the shooting gallery no longer makes the title screen stop working
  • Steam Cloud saving should now work better on OSX, instead of not working at all (choose the newest files if Steam gives you an option)
  • Activating the Steam overlay during a fade-out transition should no longer lock up your computer
  • Combat action buttons can no longer be uselessly selected while they are disabled
  • Tooltips now explain why some options are disabled on the main menu (it's not because they don't like you)

  • Fixed a mislabeled option in some very, very, very, very old code
  • Agave plants should no longer prick you – they're still sharp, but people just thought they were grass so now you have to imagine it in your head
  • The Glutton for Punishment perk now... works
  • Fan Hammer will now do the desirable things it did before we accidentally made it worse via a previous bugfix
  • Shootenanny will now apply poison and fire if celebrated with that sort of gun
  • The smoking gun will now correctly set stuff on fire when you shoot it
  • Status icons on certain enemies in combat have been flipped left to right
  • Cryoboves now correctly deal Cold damage instead of Spooky damage
  • A random encounter that used to pay out 0 Meat no longer challenges our notions of the existence of things

  • You can no longer crash the game by being too good at haggling with a certain goblin NPC
  • Helping exactly 20 people no longer does weird things to the end credits sequence
  • The Fort Memoriam tabletop war game now has sound effects
  • Murray's Curiosity and Bean is no longer falsely advertising the "Bean" part
  • Tweaked Barnaby Bob conversation to recognize if you've dealt with his mission already, and also he no longer kicks you out of the circus entirely if you annoy him (although he still will if you make him really mad)
  • Barnaby Bob's stance is now slightly more menacing, and he should no longer (rarely) double-up on his greeting to you

  • You can no longer get infinite packages from your kid brother in exchange for sending him a single postcard
  • Added a little nudge to the Ghostwood quest, if you're too persistent in trying to get the temporary pass to work
  • Added a missing player portrait in the abandoned clown camp when speaking to Alice
  • Alice should no longer talk to you at Ft. Alldead if Alice isn't traveling with you
  • The player will no longer speak in Susie's stead in a particular bandit encounter – Susie can speak for herself, thankyouverymuch

About This Game

Say howdy to West of Loathing -- a single-player slapstick comedy adventure role-playing game set in the wild west of the Kingdom of Loathing universe. Traverse snake-infested gulches, punch skeletons wearing cowboy hats, grapple with demon cows, and investigate a wide variety of disgusting spittoons.

Talk your way out of trouble as a silver-tongued Snake Oiler, plumb the refried mysteries of the cosmos as a wise and subtle Beanslinger, or let your fists do the talking as a fierce Cow Puncher. Explore a vast open world and encounter a colorful cast of characters, some of whom are good, many of whom are bad, and a few of whom are ugly.

Features:
  • a sprawling open world, chock full of danger, quests, puzzles, and mysteries
  • lush hand-drawn black and white graphics
  • full stick-figure customization
  • thousands of jokes, gags, and goofs
  • crunchy turn-based combat (but only if you want it)
  • liberal use of the Oxford comma
  • over 50 hats
  • disreputable saloons
  • several gulches
  • a drunk horse
NOTE: characters are not literally colorful (the game is in black and white)
