Steep learning curve, but thats half the fun. For the sake of balance, not all of the units are accurate to their historical counterpart. But thats ok, one can easily see how Wargame: European Escalation can be played competitively.

Wonderful strategy game. Unlike most RTS tactical use of terrain is crucial, and an ambush can easily take out the most powerful units. All units you'll find in the game are real-world units from the cold war era, and there's an incredible amount of them! Just learn to read their stats and their basic role and you shouldn't be overwhelmed though.

Graphics are both impressive (smooth strategic zoom like R.U.S.E. or Supreme Commander, very detailed units and ground) and a bit bland (maps look all alike and very generic... at least it makes them easy to read).

Campaign is a bit generic but is a very good challenge, you definitely won't breeze through the missions. Multiplayer was still alive last time I checked, but if that's your main interest you'd better buy the latest game in the series (Wargame: Red Dragon at the time of writing this) as that's where most of the community is.

Let me preface this by saying I kinda suck at this game but it is still awesome. Be warned that the difficulty curve ramps up quickly in single player. Scout vehicles are more important in this game than other rts because you dont want your limited supply of tanks wandering into a trap set by infantry with anti tank missiles.

Excelent game, litterally best strategy game ive ever played so far. It has a hell of a learning curve to get past though, took me about 5 hours straight of playing to get stuff like building decks, and moving units down to pat. although the one thorn in my side is that you can only get command stars by playing the increasingly difficult campaign missions, or multiplayer. and i cant play multiplayer because my internet sucks. I wish you could get xp and command stars by playing A.I. skirmish mode. but over all great game, this is a MUST for any RTS fan or Cold war enthusiast. Great game Eugen!!!!!

Kind of a waste of money if you havent played Wargame before

I have never played a wargame before, but i wanted a fun, command and Conquer like game on the computer, so I got this. It seemed fun, and it seemed to have basic strategy elements to the game.

But, I would not recommend it simply because it is not noob-friendly. I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out how to play this game because there is no tutorial. It throws you into the game as if you are supposed to know what you are doing and what the controls are. And personally, I did not enjoy the 30 minutes I spent trying to learn basic controls, and I do not think most people would as well.

Fabulous graphics and detail but the game is very hard. It is quite an investment in time to progress past the first couple levels.

I bought this game a while back when it was on sale, hoping it would be similar to R.U.S.E. It is to some degree but this game kinda kicks itself in the behind by forgetting the basics of an open world RTS.

The game is terribly restrictive despite being an open map RTS, your troops are goverened by 4 factors - Physchological state, ammo, fuel, repair status. Fuel runs out within mere minutes, you cant traverse the map without having to refuel once or twice. Most missions do not even give you the ability to refuel your army unless you are lucky enough to capture a suply depot. So far it makes sense doesnt it, but here is the restrictive part.

As expected the A.I. is automatically in control of these supply depots and so they are heavily reinforced, making you use tactical moves to beat the A.I. However you run out of fuel in doing so, so you are forced to go in head on. Ta Da problem is here. The A.I. being a computer some how has 100% accuracy with their weapons so the only way is to outgun them in order to win...oh dear, you are always out gunned in the first place so here is 1st catch 22 situation.

Secdonly you do not really have the choice of what units to deploy, there is a pre-determined list of which you can select (unlock) units or not.

Its a tediout game, not worth the time and trouble. Buy R.U.S.E which is absolutely fantastic, and is extremely similar to this game in terms of game interface and strategy requirements.

Finally one aspect which really didnt make sense to me...you are play as part of NATO...a group of countries whos military power and resources easily rivals that of the USSR and its allies...why on earth is the game giving you only 5 tanks to take on 40 tanks??

It would have been a far better game if there was some way of obtaining more units, maybe in the style of World In Conflict or even R.U.S.E. Instead cant help but feel this game suffers from COD syndrome...one man army against the world.

AVOID THIS GAME LIKE THE PLAGUE!!

I understand that i may have only played this game for 1.5 hours on record...however it has been much longer, and being an RTS fantatic...do understand the difference between good ones and bad ones as have experienced them.

Only buy this game if you intend to play it in an MP clickfest.

It's completely useless as an SP game mainlt because it has no active pause feature meaning that you can't pause the accelerated passage of real time to think and control your units.

That couple with a complete absence of a tutorial means the game is practically unplayable.
