What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

Stayin' Alive explores an entirely new multiplayer dynamic and we would love to hear about users' in-game experiences. This will help us create new features and game modes to push the project towards its full potential.

Playtesting and iteration is crucial for us in this phase and we're keen on our Early Access supporters joining us in the delivery of a truly unique indie title.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“At some point before 2018 we hope to be able to graduate from Early Access but it's currently impossible to allocate a date or even a concrete timeframe with certainty.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Future Release Feature Plans:

  • Game Modes: More variations + more challenges.
  • Collectibles: More items to engage with creatively.
  • Locations: More multiplayer "arenas".
  • Crafting: More crafting options = more emergent experiences.
  • Stability & Performance: Always a must.
  • Sounds & Music: Improved sound effects + music options.
  • Full Controller Support: Currently only playable with keyboard.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Stayin' Alive is already a fun and very playable experience with:

  • online multiplayer capability (4 vs. 4)
  • 2 playable maps
  • 6 dying mechanisms
  • numerous life-saving mechanisms

The core aspects of the final version are already in place via a stable, smoothly performing build.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may flatline or take a slight bump upwards while Stayin' Alive progresses toward being a complete project.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We're actively looking for feedback as well as insight into Stayin' Alive's subject matter to make the game a more immersive experience. We hope for our Community Hub to become a place of vibrant discussion and we will be very responsive to input from our members.”

Update v0.9.3

Hello players! We added some spice to the gameplay, check it out:
  • Added experience points and player level! (not supported in Demo version)
  • Suiciders can now move while commiting suicide and dying!
  • Enabled Steam Auto-Cloud save
  • Player lists now show player level, or "(Demo)" if they are playing on Demo version
  • Individual volume settings for sound and music
  • Fixed timeout not working when waiting too much time for connections
  • Fixed various audio glitches
  • More minor bugs gone

You can now level up! Get experience points and levels in realtime for each action you perform in a match; a new type of notification on the top right will show you all the important stuff. Currently this system is only needed to recognize player skill, but more stuff will be linked to experience and level after release. ;)

Steam Auto-Cloud has been enabled in particular to keep your experience points safe, should you uninstall the game or play on another machine. If something is not working as epected, please report to us!
Important: your game settings will be reset in this update.

What about Suiciders running around while dying? They make up for a more interesting gameplay... And some dark humour. Wanna know the truth? This idea came out from a bug, but we thought it was too funny and so we converted it into a feature. Keep in mind speed is halved while committing suicide and dying.

Thanks for playing, see you next update!

Update v0.9.2

Weekend is almost there, let's cheer it with a new update! In this version:
  • Added background musics!
  • Fixed bug where players would spawn in totally wrong places after changing map
Apparently this bug is still here!
  • In Finish screen, fixed text always saying there are Demo players in the room
  • Fixed some chat interface issues (especially in Room menu)
  • Fixed in-game notifications appearing in the wrong language
  • Added option to disable the sedation special effect
  • Improved volume of suicide sounds
  • More smaller bugs fixed
Apparently the sedation effect wasn't working on some machines and made the game seem stuck, so if you encounter the same problem (game runs but camera looks stuck when you are sedated), you can disable it from the options.
Also, musics! They add a whole new flavour to the game, hope you like them!

Important notice
Some of you may have been experiencing bugs like being unable to move the character at all during a match. We coulnd't reproduce these issues in any way so, if you are experiencing these problems, please write on the Bug Reports section of the Discussions!

In the next update there will be some nice gameplay news. Stay tuned!
Thanks for playing, happy gaming!

About This Game

Get A Whole New Lease On Life!

Do your best to die, or to save your enemies from death in this frantic multiplayer game about life and death.
Stayin' Alive is a game about four wheelchair-bound retirees who have decided it's high time to meet their maker, and four nurses who must keep the old geezers alive at all costs. Choose your side and let the dying/saving begin!

It's Check Out Time!

As a retiree, you will need to craft lethal weapons of self-destruction out of ordinary items and find a suitable place to commit suicide. But beware: nurses are looking for you and they're determined to save you from certain death.

Life Is Precious!

As a nurse, your job is keeping the old guys alive by finding the correct life-saving tool for any situation and using that on whoever is dying. Sedate the old-timers and conduct them into containment rooms to prevent suicide and instantly earn your score.

Any match lasts a few minutes and fast thinking is everything. Any time a retiree dies or is confined, points are assigned determining the winning party at the end of the match. Play in a small retirement house in South America or in a big hospital with up to 4 vs. 4 matches!

Will you take or save lives in the first ever FPSS (First Person Saver/Suicider)?

  • Online Multiplayer matches for up to 8 players (4 vs. 4)
  • Save your enemies as a nurse. How good are you at keeping others safe?
  • Kill yourself as a retiree. How fast can you die?
  • Craft your tools of death. Razors made out of toothbrushes. Auto-combustion kit made from Zippos. Creativity is the key.
  • 6 ways to die. Each one with its corresponding life-saver tool. Die like you always wanted to IRL (!?).
  • Sedate and confine retirees. No real senior citizens were harmed in the making of this game.
  • Cooperation is the key. Help your friends die, or save everyone.
