New Update Now Live!

Hi all, there is now a fresh update for Water Planet addressing requests and reports:

Update Changelist:
  • Fixed a difficult to reproduce issue where checkpoint recall could act unreliably for some users.
  • Upgraded game engine to a more performant build, this was done to offer better performance in the prospective Mac release but will benefit all platforms!
  • Other minor performance optimizations

New feature:
  • Whalie can now be picked up in Desktop mode, making it much easier to free him.

Also worth re-mentioning:
  • The last update brought the Checkpoint System! This was by far the most requested feature to date.

Minor feature to arrive in next update:
  • An option that will allow strafing with the Vive via a launch parameter (-vivestrafeon) which will could be helpful for those using VR treadmills and other accessibility devices.

Please note that the Gamepad (i.g. XBox Controller) works in both VR and desktop modes, but we still plan to fulfill the above request.

Best wishes and happy first day of December!

New Update: Checkpoint System

Update Change List:
  • Added community requested save feature (there are 4 checkpoints which can be unlocked once passed, they are titled by the 4 songs and can be accessed from the menu level)
  • Holding the run key in Desktop mode now increases swim speed when underwater
  • Other minor improvements

More about the saved checkpoints system:
We're happy to announce a new checkpoint system that saves your progress between levels. You will now be able to revisit any level of the game as you unlock each checkpoint. We hope this new system makes for a more enjoyable experience while visiting Water Planet.

Checkpoints are titled after the four main songs in Water Planet:
  1. 622514
  2. Dissolve
  3. hologamma
  4. Disappear

Scenes from the levels will appear inside the display orbs. When you near a display orb, the level name will appear and you may now enter that level by either pressing "E" or the corresponding "Interact" control on the game-pad or VR Controllers.

“You’ll discover old monuments and learn the planet’s history, revealing why its people are gone; you’ll meet alien flora and fauna, some of whom may be able to speak, and stumble on the words of the former inhabitants, wisdom upon which to meditate. Water Planet shimmers and glows, transforming from flat and glacial to mountainous as you keep traveling. Your eventual objective: with the help of an AI companion, collect the crystal shards needed to repower your ship, and learn the significance of ocean conservation in preserving our own planet back home.”

About This Game

Water Planet is a single-player first-person adventure set in a distant blue world. Gather resources to fuel an interstellar ship as your on-board A.I. Gemini guides you through sunken ruins and ocean depths while listening to the music of VIRGO.

Upon entering the atmosphere of a distant blue world, you are awoken from cryosleep to gather resources to fuel your interstellar journey onward. With the guidance of your on-board A.I., Gemini, hunt down crystal shards amid sunken monuments and alien flora.

When intermittent energy surges disable the link between you and Gemini, encounter a lone cybernetic jellyfish named Aqua. Travel through portals, dive to the depths of the ocean and fly on a hover transport that connects the ruins of a lost civilization. Enter the world and music of VIRGO on Water Planet before you launch back into hyperspace.

VR and Desktop Modes Both Supported

Water Planet supports the HTC Vive with its motion controllers and standard desktop play as well. No VR headset is required, but it is suggested.

Key Features

  • Soundtrack and Original Score by VIRGO - Includes songs from Water Planet EP, accompanied by an atmospheric and evolving score that builds throughout each level, all written and performed by VIRGO.
  • Emotive Narrative - While gathering resources on a distant planet, help your new cybernetic jellyfish friend name Aqua.
  • Expansive Levels - Explore open waters, trek over liquid mountains and wander through alien structures across a blue-hued and abandoned world.
  • Interactive Music - Be a part of the music throughout the game and have a chance to interact with it in an unexpected way.
  • Checkpoint System - Unlock checkpoints at the start of each level to resume play or revisit a level.
