About This Game

The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times - geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers - and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges. If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your off-shore bank account.
Tropico 4 expands on the gameplay of the previous game with new political additions ∼ including more superpowers to negotiate with, along with the ability to elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial policies passed. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda! Your political mettle will be thoroughly tested, as new natural disasters will have the populace clamoring for you and your cabinet to help them recover from some of the worst Mother Nature can dish out.
Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration. Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements. You can even take screenshots of your burgeoning island and post your dream creation on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator Ranking on the online leaderboards.

Key Features:

  • New campaign consisting of 20 missions on 10 new maps.
  • 20 new buildings including Stock Exchange, Shopping mall, Aqua Park and a Mausoleum to El Presidente.
  • Six new interactive disasters including volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes.
  • Council of Ministers – selected citizens to ministerial posts in the government to help push through your more controversial decisions.
  • National Agenda – receive objectives from Tropican factions, foreign geopolitical powers or opportunities relating to current island events such as ongoing disasters.
  • Facebook and Twitter integration.
  • Screenshot gallery – take screenshots of your tropical paradise and share on your Facebook page.
  • Trading system – import and export goods to/from other nations to boost your economy or production.

Simply a masterpiece especially with all of the dlc (or at least modern time)
I personally find this game better than its replacer Tropico 5.
One of the best city/island/country builder that exists, and if you ever see this game on a sale, don't just wait for buying it, for who knows when the next sale might occur.

Very addicting game. The campaign is really fun considering how much stuff you have to overcome. The Tornados, the Earthquakes, the Tsunamis, their all fun to deal with. The only thing I don't like, and I would love to see, is something like the island becomes flooded, and you have to save people, or parts of the island become flooded... I also wish there was a workshop for this game, and I think people could create some crazy stuff!

To me, Tropico 4 is, kind, of he pinnacle of the series. I have enjoyed all 5 immensely. (Yes, even Tropico 5 was enjoyabe to me).

I just cannot get enough of this type of game. The campaign is unique and vey enjoyable, or simply try sanbox to get a feel of laying out a functioning city.

I got this on sale (Let's face it, most of us get our games this way). If you are unsure if pruchasing this game is right, then maybe wait for a decent sale.

Never played the series? I'd suggest that you, maybe, start with Tropico 3 (Get it on sale!) and see how that treats you, as it only gets better with Tropico 4.

I will add that the Modern Times DLC is what DLC should be, as it really adds quite a bit to the game (Not the garbage they released with 5).

The only city builder game that I don't get bored playing. The missions and campaign kept me really entertained and I can sit playing this game for hours without even realising. Strangely calming game to play. Check it out. Don't bother with 5 this is the best Tropico game.

A great game that I have sunk hours of my life into. I suggest this game over Tropico 5 as the campaign is far more enjoyable ( not to say Tropico 5 campaign was rubbish, it just wasn't near the mark). Waiting for Tropico 6

So, you need to register to play this game. Come on, this is Steam, don't force custom launchers and logins on customers...
Thumbs down.
(You can firewall the login launcher or turn off your internet, as a work around.)

Sim like builder which focuses on economy and production, among other things. Plays well, but is a time consumer, even at the faster game mode. If you like the more peaceful sim builder types, you might like this game. For all that it has, some of the game was expanded with the next edition, Tropico 5.

I wasn't 100% sure if I would enjoy this title, I saw lots of mix reviews of 5, so I passed this one up several times in my personal que. One thing that resounded in those negative comments was that 4 was so much better. So I broke down and purchased 4.

This was the kinda challange I needed in a sim. I have had it for 24 hours and probably played at least 12 hours of that game. I ran through the campaign til I was comfortable with the commands and then created my own sandbox game. Right now, I am fighting to keep my people at more than 65% happiness. The idea that you can be voted out of office if you screw up too much is enough of a challange to keep me growing and progressing and sucked way too much time out of my day with micromanagement.

I love it... lets see how long it keeps my interest.

Thought it was a city builder, but then i started making my first city:
1. Made 4 farms and plantations.
2. Made some appartments.
3. Bought plants and gardens for decoration.
4. Kept buying and making buildings untill I had a very big city.
but then the elections came, and at that moment I realised it was more like a dictator simulator. I killed the other candidates, killed almost every citizen and now my island is an uninhabited island.
10/10 would kill every citizen again

Only because of it's recent lower price can I recommend this game. The price was far too high for a long time and Kalypso media need to cut it out.

Tropico 4 is an interesting city builder that really shines in its early stages, much like all city builders. It's character and these processes make the game worth it in itself.

Unfortunately, it suffers from a typical, rapid decline in things to do in the later game. You simply become too big, too well structured to fail. This is an issue that city builders should strive to overcome.

When I became president, housing for my people was free, healthcare was universal regardless of income, food was free, jobs were plenty and relationships with foreign powers were at an all time high.

I did my best to ensure the security of the people, and will continue to do so.

This is a funny and entertaining city building/strategy game. Even though there are three time/speed settings, this game does take a good deal of patience.

I really enjoyed Tropico 4, even more than 5. Funny, crazy and yet very relaxing experience.
Love the style and theme, beautifull islands and graphics, awesome game machanics.

I havent played a city sim where the people try to overthrough me, good thing i have my secert police and my overly paid bodyguards.

Big thumbs up form me, if you are in the city building games.

If you at my achievements, you can see that:
1. I unlocked a huge chunk of achievements in a single day
2. I have achievement for Modern Times, even though I haven't bough it (at the time of this writing)

Well, that's because I used to pirates this game. AND I LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT. I LOVE IT SO MUCH I FEELS GUILTY AND MAKES ME BUY IT. I'm planning to buy all the DLCs and Modern Times in the next sale to finally redeems my sins.

Now I'm going to sit on that corner and look thoughtful.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. The graphics are pretty good and the micro management is both fun and exciting. It’s not often that you get a turn based strategy game as good as this. Would play again.
