About This Game

The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times - geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers - and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges. If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your off-shore bank account.
Tropico 4 expands on the gameplay of the previous game with new political additions ∼ including more superpowers to negotiate with, along with the ability to elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial policies passed. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda! Your political mettle will be thoroughly tested, as new natural disasters will have the populace clamoring for you and your cabinet to help them recover from some of the worst Mother Nature can dish out.
Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration. Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements. You can even take screenshots of your burgeoning island and post your dream creation on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator Ranking on the online leaderboards.

Key Features:

  • New campaign consisting of 20 missions on 10 new maps.
  • 20 new buildings including Stock Exchange, Shopping mall, Aqua Park and a Mausoleum to El Presidente.
  • Six new interactive disasters including volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes.
  • Council of Ministers – selected citizens to ministerial posts in the government to help push through your more controversial decisions.
  • National Agenda – receive objectives from Tropican factions, foreign geopolitical powers or opportunities relating to current island events such as ongoing disasters.
  • Facebook and Twitter integration.
  • Screenshot gallery – take screenshots of your tropical paradise and share on your Facebook page.
  • Trading system – import and export goods to/from other nations to boost your economy or production.

Simcity on crack!
The mark of a good game is when you lose track of time and stay up until 1 in the morning playing it... I accidentally stayed up until 4... It is great.
I don't have any other games in the Tropico series but this one is fantastic. Every part of the game is enjoyable. It has a few bugs but they don't take away from the enjoyment.

DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review, if you want a full review, then please read better reviews then mine

Tropico 4 is the fourth game in the Tropico franchise, developed by Haemimont Games and published by Kalypso Media Digital. Tropico is like a political simulator. You run a small island in the Caribbean, you, El Presidente, have to serve the people whilst also trying to manage the island's economy, rebels and pirates, natural disasters, foreign factions such as the US and the USSR and try and not get caught being the El Presidente that you are

I have always loved the Tropico franchise, first playing Tropico 2: Pirate's Cove on my Windows 95, then going back to playing Tropico were surely some of my favourite and most beloved simulation city bulding games. When I then heard that a new publisher, Kalypso Media Digital had bought the rights to the Tropico franchise, I had high hopes that the game would be amazing

Tropico 3 then hit shelves and I immediately bought Tropico 3 with its expansion pack, Absolute Powers, from the Kalypso store and then adding the game onto Steam. It was a welcoming change to the series, now adding 3D environments with a pretty engine and new mechanics, I really did enjoy Tropico 3 and played hours upon hours of the game

When I heard that then Tropico 3 was such a success that a fourth game was in the works, I grabbed my wallet ready to buy the fourth game. Once released, I waited a while to see if the developers would release an expansion pack, which they did... along with tons and tons of DLC content... nevertheless I bought the Complete Collection which comes with all the DLC and the expansion pack, Modern Times

The game was a blast to play I must admit, but the game felt like it was just a copy and paste version of Tropico 3 only with a few added mechanics such as natural disasters and a few new missions here and there. Everything else from the buildings to even the UI looked exactly the same to its predecessor

And that's where many reviewers complained about Tropico 4, that the game looked exactly the same as Tropico 3 just with a few new additions and a ton of DLC! Personally, Tropico 4 should have been either an update or another expansion pack to Tropico 3

But, I cannot hate this game as I love the Tropico series too much. Tropico 4 is more or less the same as Tropico 3 sadly with only a few new game mechanics added and a ton of stupid DLC content. If you are looking for a city bulding, political simulation game, then give Tropico 4 a shot and ignore Tropico 3 completely

However, if you are like me and love the Tropico series and must have every single game in the franchise, then Tropico 4 is a welcoming addition to your already added Tropico library

RECOMMENDED :)

Review linked to August 2016 anniversary sale.

245 hours played. Wow.

For those that have never played the game before. Tropico 4 is an island management strategy game set in a Carribean island. Effectively you build buildings to provide your Tropicans with homes, jobs, religion, medical treatment, food, entertainment. You have very little to no direct control over the people themselves so you must achieve your aims by building or passing edicts - Presidential orders.

For those that have played Tropico before - there aren't massive changes. This version has no Juanita on the radio from Tropico 3 who was always helpful in pointing out where your society had problems. She is replaced by (unvoiced) faction leaders (who are different from the ones you can actually see, bribe and kill on your island). Overall the game is significantly easier than Tropico 3 - no more having to repeat the same mission over and over. The economy is generally more forgiving, particularly in the Modern Times expansion which provides some exceptionally helpful new buildings. However intitial development is slower. Many edicts require a government minister which requires a ministry and a Tropican with the required skills. Generally choose the best available. Competent ministers can bring you valuable bonuses. Incompetent ones must be sacked to avoid disaster. The campaign is linear. Russia and the USA are joined by The Middle East, Europe, and China as world powers. Another big development is natural disasters. One of the great horrors of the game is watching four huge tornadoes descend on your island and spend a game year smashing up your carefully built island. Helpfully Tropico 4 allows you to "rebuild" rubble so you aren't left guessing what each pile of busted masonry was before it got destroyed.

Approaches differ. I always tended to try and maximise happiness on the islands with free and fair(ish) elections and no-one being killed except active rebels. Even then I'd always try and bring rebels back from the jungle with an amnesty rather than risk the lives of my gallant soldiers with battles. Others I have heard play as intolerant dictators.

This is actually a great game. It requires a fair degree of patience although there is a speed up option but there is a gentle pleasure about watching your islanders go about their daily business with a soundtrack of funky Latin music (in fact EXACTLY the same funky Latin soundtrack they have had since the original Tropico). This edition has virtually all the added missions and costumes that otherwise they'd nickel and dime you for.

Effectively this involves you playing the same game thirty or more times on different islands with different resources, different problems, and different victory conditions. But it's a great game and the different rules for each scenario do force you to modify your favourite strategies.

Overall of all the Tropicos up to and including 4 this is the one I'd rate as the most fun. People have talked about Tropico being a challenger for Sim City in the city builder stakes but that's not true. In terms of fun, personality, and playability Tropico is clearly better.

Buy this game. You'll never have so much fun demolishing poor people's shacks, either torturing prisoners or exploiting them on work farms, murdering enemy spies, putting down rebellions, and bribing strikers. And I play nice.

S.x.

Absolute chillout strategy where I was dictator, king and president and enjoyed building of my tropical island empire. Tropico is that kind of game during which you just sit back and enjoy building. And I enjoyed it hell of a lot, one of my favorite strategy building series of all time.

I've just started playing Tropico 4, and thought today, "Hmmm, Castro can't be far off 90 now". Lo-and-behold, Sky News have today announced he's turning 90.

Oh, and it's a great game.

Viva Castro!
