About This Game

The First Templar follows the story of two main characters – a French Templar, and his companion, a noble lady who has been proclaimed a heretic. Taking control over these two unlikely allies, the player must uncover the mysteries behind the Templar Order, play a role in a grand conspiracy, and discover the secret of the Holy Grail. The heroes face powerful opponents at every turn, including Sacracen, King Philip the IV of France and the Inquisition.

The First Templar features both single player and co-op modes. When playing solo, the player can switch between the two characters, leaving the control of the second hero to the game’s AI. At any moment a second player can join in and take control of the AI-controlled hero.

First the game asks me to create a Kalypso Account, then i go to play online and it asks me to create yet an other username and password. After creating those two separate accounts, do I then learn that I need to link the second one to my Facebook to be able to play with friends. The game it self seems lacking after playing abit solo. And being obligated to link to a Facebook account to play multiplayer is just absurd! Even more so since I do not have a Facebook.

Bought this on special for 1.09$ and honestly I don't sugest this to anyone even at 1$ ist'a waste of money.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! Even $1 is too much. The game wants you to sign up with Facebook to do a friend only game. You can get around this, but even then we constantly disconnect. The idea to use facebook instead of steam was completely idiotic.

The menu is blocky and bulky. The "bonus" missions are all must do, this game is a rail. The only thing that makes combat hard is that enemy can just leap onto you with attack there is no defense for. The finishing moves are terrible. The abilties are terrible. The story is terrible.

I tried to deal with the online system t oplay with a friend, but it's not worth it.

Bought for 0,99e on sale.

I was almost amazed, how good it is. Ofcourse it's not topest game like Witchers and others, but it is good mixture of action, stealth or exploring ancient tombs. I don't forget that the game is already 5 years old and I think graphics are decent, not best, but on high settings game is satisfying. I quite liked story and mainly dubbing. Coop is very good addition to game, because your AI friend can be dull. Even the bonus in form "The Arena" is pretty good. It is not some endless enemies challenge, but it is more like short story about prison break.

-interesting story
-great voice acting
-hidden things, weapons and armor, bonus objectives

-you MUST create two more profiles if you want to play fully online
-sometimes dull AI

Fairly fun mid-market ARPG with fully playable co-op campaign. Perfectly fun as long as you don't expect AAA production values.

Fun campaign co-op game. Well worth a purchase when on sale. Recommended if you liked LoTR - War in the North.

Congrats Kalypso for staying in business for 10 Years, but this game didn't even last for 10 years.

Just letting you guys know if you want to invite somebody, YOU NEED TO USE FACEBOOK, DOESN'T EVEN WORK! WHAT THE **** RIGHT?! You need to CREATE A PUBLIC LOBBY and wait until your friend joins.

The game is so clunky with combat and even the skill trees glitch out in coop!

VOICE ACTING... Who were they trying to fool?
In one part of the story, a Bishop tells you to leave the city because it's under attack and then the Bishop disappears! IN THIN AIR! xD

AND ALSO ARABIC NINJAS that have the Scorpion Costume from Mortal Kombat; I'm not even joking!

The First Templar and also the Last.

I've been playing this game for 6h strait. When I first saw that there are mixed user reviews I was a bit concerned. But now, for the money I spent on it, I'm relieved. The game isn't bad.

I read several negative comments about this game below and I seriously wonder why. I mean, it's not like this game is claiming to be the opus magnum of the hack'n slash genre and the price is actually quite affordable, especially during a sale. I've played it with my friend a couple of weeks ago and I must confess that it was a really cool game. The graphics aren't really astonishing but that's the least of my concerns when I'm playing anything. The music and sound effects are ok I guess, there's nothing really to complain about. The story is kinda interesting too. Talking of it, me and my friends usually skip all the cutscenes when we're playing online but this time we were kinda forced to stand still because we faced some desync problems throughout our run and I read that it was probably because we were skipping everything. Being a hack'n slash, you usually just have to mash buttons in order to destroy everything in your way, but this game provides certain techniques that can be unlocked with your experience points and there're also some enemies which requires some strategy to be defeated. There's also some interesting diversity along the way, for example, there're levels where you don't need to face too many enemies but you gotta be careful with traps. The length of this title is another really surprising factor, I mean, you can hardly finish it in a single run unless you're a dying hardcore gamer. As for the negative aspects, besides that desync issue that I've mentioned earlier, I also think that it's really stupid the fact that the second player can't upgrade the character directly, it always depends on the first player to do it. Besides, in my modest opinion this game should be made for 3 players instead of 2, you'll understand what I'm saying after you play it. Overall, it's quite fun to play with a friend so I surely recommend it.

This game makes you jump through hoops to play with friends.. I still haven't even gotten the opportunity because after creating two accounts to do this, it gives me a broken link to a facebook page to like. It just feels and seems so scammy.

***Note*** I bought and reviewed this game thinking it was Knights of the Temple. I didn't know until today that this isn't the demo I played in 2007, but instead one that was quietly released in 2011. I still recommend it if you can get it cheap for all the reasons laid out below.***

Downloaded the demo for this game as soon as it was available. After playing the demo, I made the determination that it was a game worth purchasing as an alternative to Enclave, Blade of Darkness, and Rune (shudder). I never saw it on store shelves (FYI... games used to be on shelves).

Two kids and a house later, I see it's on sale for less than what I've accumulated in my Steam wallet by selling duplicate trading cards. I bought it.

Looking through the historical prism of game developers trying new ideas, this is a great game. You have sharp textures, pixel shading, and depth of field. You have stealth. You have special ability tracking ("use your Witcher senses to follow the trail"). You have a wierd, totally functional experience point upgrade path. The achievement system is very well implemented.

Combat is good. Simple combo/ability system, with occasional minigames of 'fire the trebuchet'.

I can't speak negatively to the MP. I don't care about MP. I haven't tried it, and won't.

I can't speak negatively to the creation of an account with Kalypso. I already have one due to the Tropico games.

Note: Play Ryse before playing The First Templar. Ryse being the much better, yet very similar type of game.

This game is not very fun, and quite boring. It doesn't let you do much besides follow a linear path, and button mashing X with abandon to kill things. The RPG elements are pretty shallow, it's not really an RPG at all, more of a skill tree. The inventory system is called "outfits" FFS. I was enjoying the story, and I'll probably play it again because it's a very casual level of difficulty when played on "normal" mode that could kill a few hours of time. However, there are better games to play meanwhile.

For the $0.99 I paid for it, this is a masterpiece.

The First Templar is far from a great game. In fact everything is just about average. Yet it's still an enjoyable game.

There is no way I'd recommend this at full price. But this has gone on sale for around a dollar, a couple times now. Keep your eyes open for when it drops again.

The story is actually fairly good & the characters are somewhat enjoyable.

Combat is average, but it's in that sweet spot between barely bearable & fun enough to keep you playing.
BGM is pretty good, but cuts out at times.
Character models are a little odd.

The game is very linear.
You need to create a Kalypso account & deal with their launcher.
Gamepad controls take a ton of work to set & will never be right.(hard to explain, but it's awful)
