Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a unique game that has mastered the eerie factor. Most "horror" games these days rely solely on petty jumpscares to scare you. Amnesia, on the other hand, gives you a creepy, eerie and downright scary feeling throughout the entire game - from beginning to end.

Some of the puzzles actually got me stuck and at the point of seeking help on the internet. (Achievement: I didn't.) The story is good and has several endings.

Overall, I think this is a fantastic game. The story was quite short, (I finished it in 8 hours) but definetly worth playing.

i like the games graphics and and the gameplay so cool but the parts with monsters i dont like the brute the design is good but that attack damage nearly kills the player however the grunt dosent nearly kill the player same for the waterlurkler also i found a glitch in the game that waterlurkler goes on land if you put it in an area with land and water he will go out of the water part or water areas also i think that the brute is scary but dont jugde me ok?

I like watching gameplays of this game. Unfortunately, even though I love the gameplay and everything, I am unable to play it as it causes motion sickness for me. I'm sad, but still would recommend the game to other people.

This game is pretty addicting. My first go at it, I ended up glued to my seat for 4 hours straight playing non stop...all the time hyper-ventilating and going into PANIC mode. If I wasn't hiding in a closet at the slightest sound (which I was most of the time...) I was usually hiding elsewhere in the dark, or running in a blind panic down some long hallway too scared to look behind me. This has to be one of the scariest games I've ever played, and one of the best.

Absolutely terrifying and you will be overwhelmed with adrenaline 99% of the time. Be prepared to run!
And remeber...always keep your audio...ON.

Your listening skills will save you.

Amnesia The Dark Descent is a horrifying, tense, and ominous game with great gameplay. The storyline is great and I haven't seen a game with better atmosphere (I actually felt like I was in hell at times). The sanity mechanic makes things really interesting. If you look at a monster too long, witness something unsettling, or stay in the dark too long, your sanity begins to drain. When it drains all the way you well...go insane (duh). This will lead you to hear and see some pretty interesting things. I'll let you discover those on your own. I think the sanity meter is pretty well done for the most part, I know if I was being chased by an invisible monster (oh yeah you'll have lots of fun with him!) I'd probably start to turn into a schizophrenic too, but the darkness part can sometimes get a bit annoying. I understand it when you're in pitch black and a mutilated human monster thing wants to make a snack out of you, but I don't think any normal person would lose it sitting in a slightly dark corner of a well lit room. This is a very minor issue and definitely doesn't hinder gameplay in anyway however. The soundtrack is also very creepy and immersive, especially if you play with headphones in a dark room. At times I seriously looked behind me to see if that noise was a real door opening or one in the game. The monsters make chilling noises too, and my heart would sink everytime I heard one in the room. The monsters are very detailed, but trust me when I say you will not be looking for those much. The fact that you cannot fight back in anyway makes the experience even more frightening. The only thing you can do is hide and pray that...thing will leave soon. This made me literally shiver at certain parts. The only problem with the enemies was the fact that they were kinda predictable. This didn't ruin it for me anyway however, and actually made it worse for me when I predicted something wrong. I have heard some people complain that there wasn't enough encounter with the monsters. I thought it was a perfect amount. The story is very unique and I won't say anything about it, just know it's good. The only problem with it really was the voice acting. Sometimes it could be kind of bad. The deep plot will defend outshine this problem however. All in all Amnesia The Dark Descent is great game and I recommend it to anybody who likes to change their pants while playing a video game. Oh and don't be fooled by the time I spent playing, I'm on vacation right now and played mostly offline.

Is it really worth it to judge, torture and kill people to keep yourself away from the inevitable death?

We're currently going through an age where the horror genre is dying out as they're getting repetitive, at least for horror games that occupy the Steam market and Steam Greenlight. However, when people thought that there was no hope, Amnesia: The Dark Descent decided to come on in and show everybody how a horror game should be done.

In Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the main thing that makes it a truly great horror experience is the fact that it makes you defenseless as you have nothing to defend yourself against the horrors that may lie inside the castle. All you have is your trusty oil lantern, which keeps on running out of oil and forces you to find more. Your only way of truly escaping these monsters is to hide from them by using the darkness and the hiding places to your advantage. However, if you spend too long in the darkenss, it can affect your sanity, so you can't spend too long in the darkness. This is a great way to experience true horror, making you feel defenceless against the monsters that litter the castle, that are rigorously trying to hunt you down. It's rare you feel this sort of way in horror games nowadays, which is why it's so refreshing to see it being taken into effect in this game. There are also some puzzles that are thrown at the player, none of these puzzles are difficult per say as long as you've been paying attention to the notes and hints that have been left around for you, however some of these puzzles feel a bit tedious and unnecessary to add in.

The story of Amnesia is that you play as Daniel who has woken in the castle with no recolection of anything at all, you as the player must tread through the castle, picking up notes, piecing back together Daniel's memory, avoiding the enemies around the castle and foiling a maniacal scheme that is set to be carried out. I always like the sort of games that throw this sort of plot at the player because it makes you feel immersedin the role as the main character knows as much as the player does and he learns along with the player. However besides the set up of it, the rest of the plot doesn't feel that special and, I'm not going to revela spoilers here or anything, but by the time I reached the end of the game, I fealt like I had more questions than answers and for the last 20 minutes, due to the story, I fealt like I wasn't really playing the game I thought I was going to be playing when I first started it up, if you know what I mean.

This is an indie development company and I was amazed by the graphics when the game started. They went into lots of detail when designing the game. The lighting work that is done on the windows of the castle is great, the walls look really god and detailed, even the monster look quite good. The only complaint I have is that some of the creatures that scatter across the ground at times look like they were made of an ugly blob, but that's just nitpicking.

The sound in this game is brilliant. The noises that occupy the castle sound terrifyingly real, especially with headphones, it really helps you immerse yourself in the world that this game is creating.

I really enjoyed my time with Amnesia: The Dark Descent as it took risks that other horror games dare not take and did it with a terrific pay off

+ Terrifying
+ Good gameplay elements
+ Good graphics
+ Great sounds
+ Pretty good story

- Tedious puzzles
- Got a bit sci-fi near the end

Final verdict: 9/10

Must haves when playing Amnesia:
1: A laptop/computer with Amnesia and sound
2: A nice place to sit
3: A dark room
4: A boyfriend (or girlfriend) who won't mind you screaming/grabing their arm (but be careful not to stab their arms with your nails).
5: If you don't have a boyfriend (or girlfriend) or you do but they don't want to play, then use a stuffed animal or a friend or anything that makes you feel safe. Or force/pay your boyfriend or girlfriend to play. Either way is good.
How to play
1: Sit somewhere with your boyfriend or girlfriend or something and start game.
2: Get scared and (if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend) grab their arm or grab whatever you have.
3: Enjoy!
10/10 Great game. Hope my review helped/you enjoyed it!

What makes "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" so scary and spooky is the environment combined with sinister background music that changes depending on your mental state. Playing around with the physics of almost any object ingame is one of the main features in this game and I enjoy it quite a lot. You can't fight back in this game but you can hide and block doors with any moveable objects. There is also a bonus chapter which is pretty well done imo.

If you ever manage to complete the game you can try out some custom stories from the community. There are quite a lot of them and some of them are scary as hell... Your journey to the dark site has just begun my friend!
