About This Game

The last remaining memories fade away into darkness. Your mind is a mess and only a feeling of being hunted remains. You must escape.
Awake...
Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a first person survival horror. A game about immersion, discovery and living through a nightmare. An experience that will chill you to the core.
You stumble through the narrow corridors as the distant cry is heard.
It is getting closer.
Explore...
Amnesia: The Dark Descent puts you in the shoes of Daniel as he wakes up in a desolate castle, barely remembering anything about his past. Exploring the eerie pathways, you must also take part of Daniel's troubled memories. The horror does not only come from the outside, but from the inside as well. A disturbing odyssey into the dark corners of the human mind awaits.
A sound of dragging feet? Or is your mind playing tricks on you?
Experience...
By using a fully physically simulated world, cutting edge 3D graphics and a dynamic sound system, the game pulls no punches when trying to immerse you. Once the game starts, you will be in control from the beginning to the end. There are no cut-scenes or time-jumps, whatever happens will happen to you first hand.
Something emerges out of the darkness. It's approaching. Fast.
Survive...
Amnesia: The Dark Descent throws you headfirst into a dangerous world where danger can lurk behind every corner. Your only means of defense are hiding, running or using your wits.
Do you have what it takes to survive?

Top of the line in horror atmosphere. The damp lighting and the creepy sound effects with sometimes a sudden burst of ´Knock me out of my chair´-moment gave me a good experience. This alongside splendid voice acting brings 5/5 stars. I was very impressed so thank you Steam for letting me have this experience for free.

If there were a perfect example for a horror game this would be it. As the game says "this is not a game meant to be won. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere." I completely agree and it makes the experience much better. I still have yet to get to the end but that doesnt matter. I would recommend giving this game a try.

Do you like screaming. Do you like crying like a little baby while in the fetal position, then do i have the game for you. This game will terrify you and make you question your sanity. Please play it in the dark with headphone on I'm sure you will never trust the dark again if you do.

When I first heard of it, I already heard of how scary this game was. My friend begged me to buy it before the summer sale ended...and I did.
FIRST PLAYING SESSION: There were times I was too scared to move, and there were no monsters.
SECOND PLAYING SESSION: Saw an invisible monster (not really) splashing in the water. Immediately turned it off.
Despite this, I have had fun, even though at this point I hadn't completed it yet. I must warn you though. Even without the monsters, it is scary. DO NOT play if jumpscare games give you nightmares. This game makes FNAF look like a rated C game (you know, those children games). Also, you don't have to listen to the developers, but it makes it more fun.

At first, my old computer couldn't run this game and I was sorely dissapointed. I've always wanted to play this game and experience the horror for myself. But now, three years later with a new laptop I'm finally able to play and I must confess.

It was worth the wait.

My first playthrough is still ongoing, but I would reccomend it to anyone and everyone!

I actually completed this game tonight. I have owned it for 5 years, and started it now and again, but got only so far and then thought "well, thats enough for me".

Well, I braved it. I said nope, I'm doing it this time. And I am bloody glad I did.

Despite being 6 years old now, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is still a solid, good looking, great sounding, first person horror game. You wake up in castle with no recollection of where you are and why you are here, but you soon learn more as you descent further into the deep bowels of this forbidden place. Along the way, you have some relatively simple puzzles to overcome, while the odd puzzle or two present more of a challenge.

And it is true what they say, this game is just plain scary. I truly felt fear in this game like no other game has accomplished, and this is achieved by a combination of jumps, creepiness, fear of the unknown, fear of being chased, panic, a gloomy atmosphere and some utterly brilliant audio work.

I can't describe the gameplay and the mechanics without underselling the game at the same time. The only way to know what it is like is to just play it, and trust me on this - it really is one of the scariest things you'll play.

Highly recommended.

That aint even a survival horror game!
A puzzle game with an amazing story and terrifying stuff.

This "puzzle game" was one of the games i wanted to play before i bought a new PC, because my old PC was crap. I bought this game in 2014 to play it when i get my new PC. I got my new PC in 2015, though...

WHATEVER!

I always thought this game was overhyped and well, dumb. Man was I wrong (and stupid). While I have not finished the game, the short amount of time I have played, has been good. Real good. The game is pretty scary with a great atmosphere and I feel like most of the terror and tension comes from the superb sound design. I have been frightened multiple times, just from gusts of wind or creaking doors/floors. I keep meaning to play more of it, but I think (subconsciously) I'm too scared. So in the likely case I never finish the game, from what I have seen...a solid 9.5/10

OH plus there are a ton of custom stories you can download and play. "A Cowards Debt" is great.
