Dota 2 Reborn: The Beta Begins

The Reborn beta is now available for everyone to download and play. Check out the update page for installation instructions and to learn about a number of new technologies that we're using to improve Dota 2.

Unlike our traditional Test client, your match history, MMR, cosmetic items, and friends are shared across the two versions. However, Ranked Matchmaking is not enabled yet. We anticipate that we'll be able to turn it on in a few days, but we need more testing of the basic functionality first. Also, it is possible new items may make their first appearance in either the beta or the main client. These items may be temporarily missing from the other client while their assets are converted.

As you explore the beta, you’ll notice a few features aren’t fully functional yet, but we encourage you to play regularly and send us your feedback. We'll be updating the client frequently over the coming weeks as we bring everything online.

Dota 2 Reborn: Custom Games

Custom Games are new experiences that are created by the community, and playable within Dota 2. These games can be anything from a grand brawl between ten Invokers, to a story-driven dungeon adventure, to something creative that no one has seen before. For us, Custom Games represent a continuation of the tradition that gave birth to Dota, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike. We'd like to build an ecosystem where you can experience something new every time you launch Dota 2.

If you'd like to begin creating a Custom Game of your own, you can check out the second part of the update site to learn more about the ecosystem we've created.

Later this week we will explore some underlying technology of the new engine.

About This Game

Dota is a competitive game of action and strategy, played both professionally and casually by millions of passionate fans worldwide. Players pick from a pool of over a hundred heroes, forming two teams of five players. Radiant heroes then battle their Dire counterparts to control a gorgeous fantasy landscape, waging campaigns of cunning, stealth, and outright warfare.

Irresistibly colorful on the surface, Dota is a game of infinite depth and complexity. Every hero has an array of skills and abilities that combine with the skills of their allies in unexpected ways, to ensure that no game is ever remotely alike. This is one of the reasons that the Dota phenomenon has continued to grow. Originating as a fan-made Warcraft 3 modification, Dota was an instant underground hit. After coming to Valve, the original community developers have bridged the gap to a more inclusive audience, so that the rest of the world can experience the same core gameplay, but with the level of polish that only Valve can provide.

Get a taste of the game that has enthralled millions.

In Dota 2,

Not many people speak your language.
Not many people play well.
Not many people talk nicely.
Not many people work as a team.

But if you find people that do...
You'll have the most fun you've ever had.

This game is really great. Bots perform extremely realistic, almost eliminating the point in playing vs real humans.

-Bots will ignore you when you ping a hero. Just like humans.
-Bots will steal your farm. Just like humans.
-Bots will 1v5 the enemy. Just like humans.
-Bots will ignore enemies taking Roshan. Just like humans.
-Bots will not ward. Just like humans.

11/10

Additions by others:

Depy the Pie-Ro - Bots will ignore when you get ganked, just like humans.
Enlightened one - Bots will also go into rosh alone and sit there until they die not even hitting him (just like humans).
DrewTylerJ - Bots will miss skillshots. Just like humans.
MasterJonah - Bots will forget that runes exist. Just like humans.
ivanleow2000 - Bots can't speak russian or indonesian and don't need to be muted (Possibly a pro)
low. Top Hat - Bots will always pick the same heroes. Just like humans.
ϢϊϨħṃῐ - Bots will always troll. Just like humans.
Stinkyboy - Bots will buy divine and throw game. Just like humans.
Kotaro Minami - Bots only pick carries. Just like humans.
Dingbat - Bots use healing items on themselves when you're nearby at 5 health. Just like humans.
SYN | Chaotic - Bots will never say anything helpful. Just like humans.
