Reviews

“Atom Zombie Smasher puts a typically fresh spin on the undead, while leaving the developer plenty of room to unleash his unique, blindsiding sense of humour and laudable fondness for surf guitar.”
EDGE Magazine

“What happens when one of the most exciting indie developers of the moment takes a shot at the zombie survival genre? Atom Zombie Smasher, that's what.”

“[Blendo Games] define development independence strictly through their originality, the innateness of creating things featuring tempered mechanics dressed in weird charm.”

More than anything, this is a crowd management game done by Monty Python. Great fun.

I really enjoyed this title. got it from the Humble Blendo Bundle. Graphically there isnt much going on, but gameplay has a very large amount of options available to tweek your experience. I finished a campaign more than once - and tried to win even MORE times. Its challenging and requires thinking strategically about which zones to attempt to rescue in order to contain the outbreak. Not being able to choose what units you bring into the field with you creates another obstacle for you. But you can toggle that mechanic on or off depending on your mood. A game that you will fire up once in a while for a very long time IMO. It will always entertain you with its challenge, its simple, yet interesting presentation. I always like games where its clear the creators really put their souls into the development and polish the game up to a fine shine before release. This is clearly a labor of love. Get this game if you want to save the world from the zombie outbreak with AWESOME weapons and units. It wont be easy but i didn't even mind losing - because it seemed like you were always learning and picking up new tenchniques to try out on your next run. 7/10 GREAT game.

Atom Zombie Smasher

A jewel, a polished diamond for 20-30 hours of fun. It allows for the most accesible modding and mod creation I have seen, useful for getting any kind of experience desired, from the easiest of easy to the most insane of modes. The cleverly designed units are great for getting different challenges, thought they can sometimes end up in such a way as to make it impossible to win. There are a variety of preset options for the game, which allow you to make the game go on indefinitely, let you pick your units and so on. All in all very cleverly designed. Even when you get bored of the normal saving civiians / killing zeds, you can play Kringlejammer the most hilariously overpowered weapon of mass destruction, with a bit of strategy to see how long you can last. It is suprisingly addictive, akin to a tower defense game but with a bit of a twist. The story behind the game is also quite odd, but provides some comic relief.

Worth it's price? Yes
Gameplay time: 10 hours for basic experience, 20 for some modding and messing around, 30 for achievement completion.

Bought this game late 2011 as part of my first Humble Bundle pack ever. Played around with it for a little bit but then moved on to the other games. Eventually it got forgotten among my massive library until recently when I fired it back up again out of boredom.

Such a treat! It's definitely one of those "just one more turn" kind of games that easily sucks you in again and again. Simple graphics that hide a wickedly fun gameplay. Killing massive amounts of zeds is the name of the game.

Welcome to the Zombie Apocalypse. Where it's US Verses THEM!

It's not everyday you are a chopper pilot, nor is it everyday that you're a chopper pilot flying through the country trying to save civilians. But why stop there? When the odds can be in favor or against us!
Think you could save the day and be a hero? Or would you prefer to watch the human population deminish to nothing at all?

So this isn't your ordinary "Lets kill zombies!" type of game. You don't even start off with anything to kill zombies. You're just a pilot trying to rescue as many people as you can before night falls. As you save people, you create a team. Once you make a team you can either block off zombies from an area, distract them from civilians, plant mines to blow them up, use cannons, or command snipers/soldiers.

Now you might ask "what does that have to do with us vs them?" As the game progresses, your mission is to beat the Zed from expanding. While you have to expand your survivors. Each team has the same goal, and it's whoever gets there first wins. While over time, each team gets "upgrades" or "perks" by how many people are rescued/zombified. If the Zed get a huge lead, the game gets harder to win to a point where you start losing territory or are forced to nuke the entire area. If the survivors get a huge lead, scientists help create weapons or modifications to better you while you're out there making a hero of yourself.

It's a really fun strategy game, with a few twists and turns. The story that they try to implement isn't really paying attention worthy as only one or two articles explain a perk the Zed get. Sad to say I was more in it for the game play.

The LZ is hot on this one, time to give it a 7.5/10
Really fun RTS that doesn't always play to your favor.
A gift that I got back in 2012 for Christmas, but if it had a sequel I'd buy it.
