About This Game

Set in the zombie apocalypse, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) is the highly anticipated sequel to the award-winning Left 4 Dead, the #1 co-op game of 2008.
This co-operative action horror FPS takes you and your friends through the cities, swamps and cemeteries of the Deep South, from Savannah to New Orleans across five expansive campaigns.
You'll play as one of four new survivors armed with a wide and devastating array of classic and upgraded weapons. In addition to firearms, you'll also get a chance to take out some aggression on infected with a variety of carnage-creating melee weapons, from chainsaws to axes and even the deadly frying pan.
You'll be putting these weapons to the test against (or playing as in Versus) three horrific and formidable new Special Infected. You'll also encounter five new “uncommon” common infected, including the terrifying Mudmen.
Helping to take L4D's frantic, action-packed gameplay to the next level is AI Director 2.0. This improved Director has the ability to procedurally change the weather you'll fight through and the pathways you'll take, in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match your performance. L4D2 promises a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience every time the game is played, custom-fitted to your style of play.
  • Next generation co-op action gaming from the makers of Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
  • Over 20 new weapons & items headlined by over 10 melee weapons – axe, chainsaw, frying pan, baseball bat – allow you to get up close with the zombies
  • New survivors. New Story. New dialogue.
  • Five expansive campaigns for co-operative, Versus and Survival game modes.
  • An all new multiplayer mode.
  • Uncommon common infected. Each of the five new campaigns contains at least one new “uncommon common” zombies which are exclusive to that campaign.
  • AI Director 2.0: Advanced technology dubbed “The AI Director” drove L4D's unique gameplay – customizing enemy population, effects, and music, based upon the players’ performance. L4D 2 features “The AI Director 2.0” which expands the Director’s ability to customize level layout, world objects, weather, and lighting to reflect different times of day.
  • Stats, rankings, and awards system drives collaborative play

Dear Steam,
I would like to cancel my refund as I really want to play this.
I have made a mistake for refunding and I would really like to cancel my refund.
I really enjoyed this, and I did not mean to request a refund.
Please cancel my refund and return my game, Left 4 Dead 2, to my library.
Thank you for reading. [EDIT] I would really appriciate if you gave my game back and take my (pending money at the moment) $4.99 away. Because that's how much I like this game. I love having a first person team based shooter (that is not TF2) that you need to escape from zombies.
Team based shooters are great. I don't want to lose this. Please help me.

Classic arcade game that never gets old. The name itself is popular enough to keep the community strong, and the community provides mods that keep the game going. Definitely worth the price, since the game won't die until L4D3 comes out.

TL:DR
A good game if you want to buy 3-7 more copies for your friends, since the community is cancer, and the single-player is only challenging with mods or mutations.

Pros:
Fun game play
Randomised elements (Weapon spawns, some maps have different routes.)
Great with friends
Good character dialogue
Good at making you feel tense
The mods

Cons:
The community
The community
The community
SP is very easy (Unless on expert mode where the AI makes the game impossible.)
"Official" servers are often modded and unbalenced, and not many EU servers. (I get 90-150 ping on this game where I get 30 on every other game?)
The community

Singleplayer 6/10
Multiplayer (With friends) 8-9/10 (Without friends) 3/10
Mods 7/10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I spent about 10 minutes trying to decide a + or a - vote on this, (volvo add 50/50 button pls), and you can see what I put it as. A no.
"But Pew Pew! You gave it an 8/10!"
Shut the ♥♥♥♥ up, did you not see the 3/10 afterwards?
Unless your *friends* have this game, *do not ♥♥♥♥ing buy it!* (Unless you're Sir Moneybags and you're buying a copy for them).
"Why is that Pew Pew?"
Can you not shut up for a few lines and let me explain?
The community.
Oh, God, the community.
I'd explain, but I'll just give you an anecdote.
*A tale of polls and bile*
I was only 9 hours old (On L4D2).
I loved the Survivors so much.
I had played the game for 1,000 hours on console.
I had all the maps memorised.
I played the game every night, thanking Gabe for the singleplayer experience.
"L4D2 is love", I say, "L4D2 is life."
My steam friends would call me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥, and tell me to play on M&B Warband.
I knew they were just jealous of the way I could shove zombies.
I called them all ♥♥♥♥♥.
They unadded me and I played more L4D2.
I finally start playing on VS mode, my first game.
Then I see him, Coach, having infinite bile jars.
I'm crying, the zombies surrounding me, it hurts.
I leave the game and join another.
I start in as Ellis, I feel a warmth coming towards me.
A charger, charging me off the cliff, I was so unhappy.
The team votekicked me for being "♥♥♥♥ NUB FAEGUT"
You get the picture, this game is full of hackers and cancerous players who votekick for the slightest reasons.
Not to mention Valve have "Left it for Dead" because CSGO and DOTA bring in more money.
However, multiplayer with friends is a different story...
*A tale of--* I'm not doing that again, don't worry.
But multiplayer on this game is the main aspect, and Valve got it right...
However, the community decided that we can't have nice things.
The guns feel responsive, the balance for infectedVSsurvivor is slightly askew for survivors but a good infected team *should* get the job done.
Speaking of the guns, there are a large selection of SMG's, shotguns, A-R, grenade launchers, snipers, chainsaws, and pistols. There's even an M60. However, the more powerful weapons (grenade launchers, chainsaws and M60) have no ammo scattered around the map, so you only get a limited use on them.
For example of gun variety, for A-R, there is the M4 (low damage high firerate), AK-47 (High damage low firerate + acc) and Desert Rifle (Accuracy out the ♥♥♥).
There are lots of different Zombie types;
Common Infected - The plebeians of the L4D universe.
Uncommon Infected - CEDA agents, Riot police, even Ex-Survivor's, among others, some of these kinds of zombies usually carry some kind of item.
Special Infected - What you play as. All serve some kind of purpose (Jockey to lead survivors away, Boombers to split survivors up, etc) and with "combos" you can do, such as Spitter+Hunter+Smoker combo (smoker pulls away, spitter spits on survivor then hunter pounces) or a Boomber-Spitter-Charger combo (Charger can charge, spitter can either spit on the area where the charger is or somewhere to block the survivors to enter the area where the charger is, boomber can explode since Charger does not drop survivor when they have picked him up), all with varying level of skill required.
*Special* Special Infected - Tanks and Witches. Tanks are --bowser and shrek-- huge monsters that can ♥♥♥♥ up your ♥♥♥♥, Witches can take out 1 survivor instantly, but you can't play as her. Tip is to sneak past her, since she doesn't attack unless provoked.
Anyway, onto map design.
It's ok.
Nothing to write home about.
The basic "story" is that you are a rag-tag team of survivors going from one place to another, trying to escape the Zombie Horde using the News 5 Chopper, an array of military vehicles, a train, Jimmy Gibbs' Stock Car and Virgil.
The levels are all themed on a different part of America, (The sugar plantations of the south, the swamps, Savannah, some kind of waterfront place, I don't know american geography, as well as many different cities.)
The music is designed to feature each area's culture well, such as "country" beat for the swamp and plantation levels, as well as instruments used in country songs. The music can also make you feel tense, such as having specialised themes for each infected type, and using quieter and louder music in different places.
As you can tell, I don't have a degree in music.
Singleplayer games usually have the player feeling lonely, so to combat this and still add an element of "being part of a team", Valve put in some comedic character dialogue, such as;
"My buddy Keith tried camping out on top of a building once. He was shooting crows, but the police were too busy teargassin' him to ask what he was doin' up there. He screamed for an entire year every single time he opened his eyes! Oh, man! At first, it was funny; then it just got sad, but then it got funny again! Oh, man!" -- Ellis 2009
[On the freeway]
Nick: That's it! We're really here! We're on the bridge! We're here! We're here!
[The military's F18s blow the freeway up.]
And a lot more, I don't wanna clutter this review with them, but you get the idea.
Mods are fun, right? What about L4D2 mods? I split them into 3 categories;
Almost every single mod in L4D2 is either Anime, A video game, or something incredibly out of place (I.E A hotdog jockey, Shrek Tank etc)
Anime:
Holy ♥♥♥♥ the workshop is cluttered with this ♥♥♥♥. Anime music packs, anime weapons, anime character models, anime maps, anime ♥♥♥♥♥♥, etc.
If you're a weeaboo, you'll like it. If not, shiiieeet.
Video game:
Ever wanted to see Master Chief team up with Sonic and The Heavy from TF2 tag-team some Zombie ♥♥♥?
No?
You do now though, it's on workshop. A sub category of Video Game is film related items, as many models and maps are just direct copies of the original work, not a lot of film related items exist, however there are some maps (Helms Deep Survival, a ♥♥♥♥ ton of Star Wars mods, etc) and characters available.
Something out of place? Picture this;
You're walking though a dark tunnel with three friends, surrounded by flesh eating zombies, alone.
Then suddenly, you hear something... "Suck a ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥!"
In the distance, you see it! The flying spaghetti monster mowing down zombies on it's way to get to you and spaghetti you up! Luckily, you throw your MTN Dew molotov at it and shoot it with a violin.
These are all real things.
However, as I said before, I seem pretty positive about this game?
Multiplayer is cancer.
As I said before, I just thought I'd end the review on that.
Multiplayer.
Is.
Cancer.
Leave a comment on anything I missed out and I'll probably not add it.
Left 4 Dead 2 is great, and it's made even better with the Workshop. My only complaint is the Source Engine, but that obviously can't be held against it. For what it goes for, this game does everything it should!
Got ♥♥♥♥♥ by a Hunter with a Pink Guy skin/sound mod on a Helms Deep map, as I was brutally torn apart I heard the hunter yelling "ANIMEE" and also "WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME!?". Then a John Cena charger murdered the last survivor.
10/10 would play again with Donald Trump as the witch.
I just never understood... Why were the developers too dumb to make difficulty sliders?
The hardest mode was always too hard for most of the players in our group, and the mode below that was so easy, you could just fall asleep...
It's pathetic how Counter Strike bots from 20 years ago, were more advanced then this game...
They literally had 100*100*100*100*100 levels of difficulty... aim speed 1-100, reaction time 1-100, etc...
HOW HAS THIS GAME LIKE... THREE DIFFICULTIES??? What is this? a freaking wheel made by neanderthals?
Oh no wait... it's a "MASTERPIECE" made by "VALVE"...
Valve! When there is just NOTHING else to play...
It’s a style of game that won’t appeal to everyone, but for what it’s going for, this sequel hits all the right notes. Better combat and superior campaign design. If you didn't play Left 4 Dead 1 don't worry all classic maps are included in this game. With an AI Director that keeps the campaigns Insane and a host of modes that weren’t in the original at launch, there’s plenty more here for fans to enjoy. Overall by far the best well optimize zombie action 4 player co-op shooter I've played in years in my opinion which destroys the first game outta of the park (Veteran Fans will ♥♥♥♥ that I said that). Make sure if you want to try this game buy it during steam sales.
Gameplay Pros
- 5 New Campaigns well designed layout made by valve themselves with new Surviviors with more character
- Original Special infected are back with 3 more including Jockey, Charger, and Spitter
- Explosive new guns and deadly new melee weapons
- Realism mode delivers a new level of tension
- NEW Scavenge mode is a great short-form Versus mode
- Included from L4D1, Versus 4(humans)v4(infected) PVP also Realism versus & Survival mode (waves of the Infected)
- (ADDED) 2 Free DLC made by Turtle Rock Studio, 5 Classic maps with old Survivors, 1 Free DLC made by community, also a new mode called mutation to switch up gameplay modes every week.
- (ADDED) Workshop which adds mod support for custom made community maps, skins(only you see), custom HUD etc all for FREE. Beware it can crash or affect performance.
Gameplay Cons
- No major leaps forward in gameplay coming from L4D1
- Single Player is dry unless you add mods (not really a con)
- AI allies can still trip you up
- Net Code issues, very minor tho depending on where you live
- Personal issue including: Trolls who team kill on expert mode, unfair voting system, and Balance issues (PVP)(PVE)
Technical Perspective and Performance
- (Graphics) This isn’t the sharpest game out there, but it’s still a great looking product. The sunnier environments and improved animations contribute heavily to this. Can be improve with workshop with HD textures
- (Sound) Excellent sound design throughout. Audio alerts you to waiting boss zombies, the weapons and groans and screams all contribute to the atmosphere, and the character voice-overs are appropriately campy.
- (Performance) Well Optimize game Overall. Running from HD6950 to a GTX970 with an AMD processor old or new.
- (Controls) Depending on how you play, Mouse & keyboard or Controller support (xbox 360/one or steam controller). You'll have a smooth time to change & customize.
I have been playing Left 4 Dead since the original came out on Xbox 360 in 2008. Once I got a PC that could run Left 4 Dead 2, I discovered that Left 4 Dead really has no end of enjoyment. It is not for everyone of course, but if you like slaying zombies, exploration, teamwork, fun with friends, and some hilarious moments, this game is excellent.
It is now 2016, and still, people are making mods, addons, skins, new game modes, and creating unique servers that change the rules of the game. It is hard to get bored with a game that people keep adding to this much.
You will unfortunately hear about, or experience yourself, bad players on this game. This goes for EVERY game out there on the Internet. If there is a way to ruin other players' fun, there are people who will try to do it. Please don't blame the game for bad players. Left 4 Dead 2 still has hundreds, maybe thousands of players who love to have a good time and try to support eachother in game. I'm one of those. =D If you have a bad experience, try again please. More good-natured players are always welcome.
To me, this is the best game in the world right now. This is because it provides a fun way to meet cool and amazing people, who enjoy this great game where you are rewarded for working TOGETHER, instead of just killing eachother. The game itself provides lots of fun, but what really makes it amazing are the people you play with, and people who continue to make the game better.
I have put off writing a review to this game for so long, because I really can't say enough about it. This review seems like it barely scratches the surface to me. All I can say is try it. TRY IT. Join some games, download some add ons and try those. Remember not to take it too seriously. Get killed, laugh, try to get better, die more, laugh even more. XD Left 4 Dead forever haha.
I absolutely love this game and is one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm giving this a positive review.
That being said, I'll have to address the matter of this game that completely destroys it. A simple word, 'Community'. Out of all of the communities of games, movies, etc, this is the worst one I have ever came across. This community is full of elitists, ridden with them. They always kick you for doing the slightest thing wrong or not doing what they want you to do.
For example;
About to die and stops to heal = kick.
Killing a zombie that someone else was about to kill = kick.
Just missing a player as a charger = kick.
Walks out of spawn and immediately gets pounced = kick.
So why do I recommend this game you ask? It's because of the game itself. I only play this game with friends (for obvious reasons) and that is a highly fun experience. If you are planning on going on a pub server, bring around two other people with you, therefore you have less chances of getting kicked.
Coach is at full
We both go down
Coach keeps going and walks past us screaming for help
Ellis with his slowly decaying health picks the both of us up and uses his medpack on one of us
I'm having a blast playing this game. I can't believe I've had it so long in my library and never touched it.
Pros:
  • Very, very challenging.
  • A lot of replay value.
  • Team work is needed, communication is key.
  • Very tactful / tactical. If you think you're going to run around in this game blasting zombies, you're in for a big surprise. Check all your corners and watch your six!
  • The AI is not too terrible and can hold its own on Expert.
  • Many game modes to choose from.
  • The Expert mode does not bend over for casuals like some other games in the same genre.
  • A healthy player base even after 7 years.
Cons:
  • Team Killing. There are a lot of trolls in this game that will join your game and TK you. I've experienced at least one per gaming session. This can be very frustrating if trying to do a map on Expert. It'd be nice if there was a Ricochet option (whatever damage you deal to teammates is done back to you instead) that was on by default.
  • Toxic community. Playing on VS is a sure-fire way to get insults hurled your way -- even if you go through the entire campaign on expert. They don't tolerate beginners at VS even though they were beginners once.
  • For maps that have require gathering scattered items during the middle of a Panic event, the AI is useless, making these events virtually impossible on Solo.
  • The AI will stay back and fight rather than follow you and kite. This is mainly important when dealing with a Tank.
  • Weapons feel rather bland, but they'll grow on you eventually.
  • If you cancel a reload on Expert, you'll have to play out the entire reload animation all over again and your magazine count will be at 0 even if you had at least 1 bullet in it before.
If you don't have left 4 dead 2 yet, or still hesitant about buying it.
Wait no longer, on certain websites, that I'm apparantly not allowed to mention on steam it's like 5 €.
One of the best, most fun games with long replayability out there.
Still not convinced ?
If you don't like the following:
-Blood
-Scary crying zombie things with claws in dark corners
-Lighting things on fire
-Tearing zombies to pieces with a chainsaw
-Seeing fat barfing zombies explode
-Seeing nasty zombies spit green liquids
-Gore
-Lighting up zombie hordes with a variety of guns
-Chopping up zombies with katanas, fireaxes, etc.
-Blowing stuff up
-Working with friends to deliver soda
-Getting pinned by a super long tongue
-Getting slammed into the ground multiple times by a zombie with a giant arm
-Throwing barf at stuff (if you want to get technical, it's bile)
-Getting rocks, asphalt, earth, etc. thrown at you
Then this game isn't for you.
MINIMALISTIC REVIEW
Pros:
- Fast-paced gameplay
- Variety of weapons, attachments and bullet customization (eg; fire bullets, frag bullets, etc.).
- UI and HUD is simple and understandable.
- Story is well-organized and well-relayed (if the players do put attention on the story)
- Melee weapons are introduced.
- L4D game is combined to this game with a bonus top-rated community map featured on the game.
- Variety of zombies and also the special common infected (eg; riot zombie, hazmat zombie).
- Epic and challenging map and level designs.
- Tutorials are user-friendly.
- Features a band that KINDA existed (Midnight Riders!!!! WHOOO!!)
- Music blends perfectly on the environment.
- New systems have been added to the game that were not available on L4D (eg; witch's critical hit, etc.)
- Characters are great and accomodated to the post-apocalyptic scenario.
- No DLCs. Just pure fun.
- Mods are welcomed (have your own style of the apocalypse).
- YOU CAN BE THE INFECTED! Now that is fun.
- Can be played with potato PCs.
Cons:
- Item physics are wobbling and act like light plastic (most especially the gas cans).
- AI Survivors were designed to just shoot and pick up items (ammunitions to be specific). They are not designed to interact with certain objects given by the map.
- Some weapons that are available at the game files are not accessible in the game (eg; AWP).
RATING: 9/10 would shoot alarmed cars again.
Hmmm... Why buy left for dead 2? I am 30+ year old gamer, one of the old schoolers who grew up with just about every console and pc game around.
I promise this game will satisfy both your shooting FPS needs as well as the Co-Op thing, This is the real deal. No Rambo BS here (RAMBO = one man show can kill all the zombies by him/her self), you won't survive a minute on your own (the game is made that way).
Luckily through this game I have been able to find really good Co-Op friends and that is probably the main reason that I play this game so often.
It's like a little like multiplayer chess game, everytime you play, there are different challenges ahead, allthough its exactly the same level, the same horde and so on, the players ability to Co-Op decides the outcome (Yeah!!!!)
So get this game if you like real Co-Op and FPS combined.
One tip though, to truly enjoy the games co-op feautures you have to go at it at the hardest level (Expert) and play on realism (no help in game)). On the easier settings/levels the Rambo mode is still at works, meaning you can pretty much go at it alone and survive quite easily, which is quite boring if you play a Co-op FPS game.
So conclusion: BUY BUY BUY, PLAY PLAY PLAY, HAVE FUN FUN FUN!!! :D
I installed some workshop mods
Zombies = Teletubbies
Survivors = My Little Pony's
Haven't laughed that much in a while.... XD
Pros:
- Mechanics, controls, variations in players and infected, amount of weapons, throwables, health items, number of and different locations of levels, with the right group of players or a group of friends the game is a blast.
Cons:
- public community can be very toxic making you even wonder why you bother playing the game sometimes.
8/10
