“Because the game isn't finished yet, and I need your help!
Every time you start a new game, a new procedural world is created. The game is intended to be played over and over again, with multiple play styles and different characters unlocked through quests. The graphics for all the characters, enemies and weapons is already drawn and I'm working on animation and mechanics now. I need player feedback to validate the new mechanics and get ideas of some unique ones for the content that's about to be added into the game.”

“The full version will have seven playable characters, 40 different enemies with various fighting mechanics, 20 bosses and 100+ items and weapons with different abilities including magic and status effects. You will be able to pick one of 30 pet animals to aid you on your journey. The story will be told across seven chapters, each with a different theme regarding the backgrounds, obstacles, hazards and enemies. Some music and sound effect in the Early Access version are temporary and will be replaced with better ones. The full version will have more Steam Achievements as well.”

“The game currently offers four playable characters: A Wizard and a Sorceress focusing on magic spells, a Knight focusing on Melee combat and an Archer dedicated to bows and arrows. The Wizard is more oriented on attacking and doing damage to enemies, while the Sorceress is focused on healing and survival. Three more characters will be added as the game is developed. The first three chapters of the story are complete: The Forest, The Battlements and The Keep with Goblins and The King's Guard enemies. This includes item shops with the shopkeeper's bodyguard, and six bosses: The Ogre Mama, The Earth Golem, The Red Dragon, The Ice Dragon, The Hornet Queen and The Executioner. Random potions and scrolls with about 30 different effects are already in the game and about 80 weapons and items you can find. Status effects like Poison, Frozen, Burning, Petrified, etc. are already implemented as well as magic spells like teleport, turning enemies into barrels, etc. Keys, bombs and treasure chest are already in as well as random loot drops from enemies. Also, 24 pets with different effects can accompany you on your adventure. There's also a PvP arena for 2-4 players and a couple of quests and mini games you can complete.”

“I will announce new units, weapons, items and mechanics before they are added into the game, to get some ideas on interesting mechanics and interaction with existing content. My initial plan was to have new builds available every 5-6 weeks, but it has become much more often with new builds coming out on a weekly basis. You can see the track record of development on my blog at bigosaur.com/blog. I plan to keep up the same kind of transparency during Early Access development. When a new build is ready, the player feedback will be essential to polish the new features. Since I'm not a native English speaker, the community will also be able to help naming some of the items and pet animals in the game and give some cool or funny item descriptions.”

A new boss



A new boss is added to the Battlements: A giant Hornet Queen. She can attack you or lay eggs from which the regular hornet enemies hatch. Both the Queen and the regular hornets have poisonous attack. This boss starts showing up after you defeat a Dragon (either a fire or the ice one).

Beside the new boss:

- made the summoned guards have different colors, so you know who's fighting on your side
- pets that affect the player no longer do so for dead players (for example, Giraffe doesn't give you HP if you're already dead)
- improved layout and pet selection for tutorial level
- bugfix: locked characters are no longer available in the daily challenge
- it's now possible to get Golem and Hornet Queen via Gamble scroll
- Chicken now only ignores empty rooms
- Both chicken and tiger now work properly for the rooms you exited before defeating the enemies (bombed out, or used the Escape or Teleport scroll)

UPDATE: version 1.9.1 fixes a bug where the Hornet Queen could fly off-screen in online multiplayer games. This wasn't really a problem as she would fly back in a couple of seconds, but it does make the fighting much harder.

Important bugfixes



Version 1.8.7 is up:

- fixed bug when the angel would not revive the dead players
- fixed bug when weapon wouldn't drop for enemies turned into sheep in online multiplayer
- added the final room of the Castle level
- added a nice animation effect for transformations (turning enemies into sheep, barrels and the Gamble scroll).

Both bugs were introduced in version 1.8.6, so if you have that one, make sure you upgrade.

UPDATE:

Version 1.8.8 is up now:

- fixed bug when you have a castle guard ally and you use a teleport at the very moment when he dies in battle
- fixed bug when player would sometimes appear as if walking beside a mount boar even if stomp attack wasn't active. This happened after the level transition between levels 2 and 3.

Important: This game is in Early Access with very active development. Stuff is added daily. If you find that something doesn't work properly or the way you imagined it should work, please, please, please post in the Steam discussions forum or contact me at info@bigosaur.com before leaving a negative review and vanishing. I really want the game to be great and I want to fix any problems that may arise. Nothing is set in stone - let's shape the game together.

The Heroes




One to four players can select one of seven heroes with different starting weapons, as well as Melee, Magic and Archery skill levels. Local co-op, LAN and online multiplayer mode are available. In the current Early Access version, Knight, Archer, Sorceress and Wizard characters are already available. The rest will follow soon and you will be able to unlock them by completing various quests in the game.

Items, weapons and loot




Boost your strength, magic and other abilities with new weapons, potions, scrolls and 60+ items you can discover on your adventure. Grab enemy weapons when they drop them or discover hidden treasure stashes. Here are some weapons and items already available:



The final version of the game will have over 100 items with different effects. Many items have synergies. For example drinking a Gold Diet potion allows you to eat gold, but if you find an Appetite potion as well it will boost the effect and enable you to restore a lot of HP. Voodoo Doll allows you to hurt enemies from a distance, but having a Meteor Staff is a great combo since you can drop the doll on the ground and then drop meteors on it instead of trying to aim for the enemies.

Characters with good archery skills can combine different bows and arrows, for example:



Hitting an enemy would freeze it for a while, but after that passes, there's a chance he will also be slow and much easier to fight against. Saving special arrows for bosses and difficult enemies is a good strategy.

Pets




Adopt one of 25 different pet companions. Each has a different effect. The Penguin freezes enemies. The Ram knocks them down. The Bat attacks in the air. The Chicken shows you the path with least enemies. The Dog fetches hard to reach items and weapons. The Turtle acts as an unbeatable decoy and the Bird's feathers improve your archery skill. If you find a Wolf to lead the pack and keep them in order, you can adopt multiple pets at the same time.

Always more to explore


The game has permadeath. Once you die, you start a new game. A different world is created on each playthrough. The layout of the levels is different, there are different numbers and types of enemies; and different treasures and items sold in shops. There are many spells the characters can use, and archers have a wide assortment of special types of bows and arrows at their disposal. Because of this, each new game poses a new challenge. You will get a subset of weapons, items and enemies and might need to use a different strategy. Any two subsequent plays could be quite different.

Various ways to complete levels


There's a big boss at the end of each level. You can beat him up with a melee weapon, petrify him with Medusa Arrows, or use a magic scroll to turn him into a sheep. There are shops that you can try to loot if you can beat the shopkeeper's armed friends. Enemies drop usable items and weapons often. For example, a Goblin Shaman has a voodoo doll which you can use to mark enemies and hurt them from a distance. You can even toss the doll into a campfire and set enemies on fire, or anything else you can think of.

Monsters and bosses




The final game will feature seven areas: forest, battlements, the keep, dungeon, catacombs, caves and the frozen mountain. Each area will have a couple of specific bosses that randomly show up on different play-throughs.

Each area also has a different set of enemies, separated into the following factions:
  • Goblins
  • King's Guards
  • Thieves
  • Undead (skeletons, zombies, vampires)
  • Animals (wild boars you can ride, bugs that drop weapon upgrades, bats, hornets, etc.)

Each faction has regular units and special ones that are bigger and harder to beat. Like this barbarian that the shop keepers like to hire for security:

The Story


Two brothers lived with their mother in a peaceful forest community. The mother was a witch who used her powers only for good. One day, the king's guards came and took her away. The brothers decided to sneak into the castle and rescue her.

In the meantime, someone has stolen an ancient artifact from the goblins and escaped into the castle. As our heroes are trying to find their way in, the goblins are starting a siege.
