What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Involving feedback from fans early in development even before this title was Greenlit has proven Early Access will greatly improve this game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This game will be in Early Access until the main storyline and mod support for exploration mode have been completed. This may take approximately 1 to 2 years after this game is initially released on Early Access.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main measure of completeness for this game's development will be the main storyline. Therefore, the final release will have a completed storyline. Important to single and multi player exploration mode is the mod support. The final version will also have more options for customizing your character, more locations, more side quests, etc.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This game will release in Early Access with the storyline completed up to the first dungeon. Many of the anticipated features such as multiplayer and crafting options have already been implemented, but are in need of valuable feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Pricing will remain consistent in both Early Access and the final release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Beyond the typical influence from user testing and feedback on features, there are many opportunities to include content inspired by fan demand (character customization options, equipment, clothes, side characters, etc.).”

Chapter 2 is Out

The biggest update yet! Chapter 2 is out along with a new foe to defeat in both story and explore/multiplayer mode. To help you defeat it, there's a variety of new weapons added along with the ability to imbue any weapon with special powers.

Major changes were made to how NPCs work in explore/multiplayer mode. While new characters will only move into area you've already claimed, this area can now grow to take over the adjacent areas if enough people move in. Maybe you're looking to move somewhere nicer? You can build inside of caves, temples, and other places you had to clear to capture them.

- [NEW] Added a new quest "Hair of the Dog" if you ask the mystic who lives in the eastern part of the ruined city - [NEW] Story mode is now playable through chapter 2 - [NEW] Added the Razor Knife that you craft from the feathers, it is twice as likely to inflict conditions than other weapons - [NEW] Added the Panacea Charm that prevents condition damage from being poisoned (you still need to cure poison before healing, though) - [NEW] Added chapter 2's boss and badlands as the stage - [NEW] Added a short introduction to bosses so its more obvious when you've walked into an arena for one - [NEW] Added the Sentry enemy that rolls around quickly, stopping to attack only when you get close - [NEW] Added the Arachnoid enemy that can spin chilling webs on the ground while evading in between its attacks - [NEW] Added the Propel orb that increases the attack speed of weapons, but much more so when the weapon is heavy - [NEW] Added the Conduit orb that allows you to hit electrified enemies without taking damage, restoring your EP at the same time - [NEW] Added the Absorb orb which is actually applied on a weapon to pernamently imbue it with the effect - [NEW] Added a give command for the server console that gives specific players items - [NEW] Added the Brewer, an upgraded version of the mortar pestle station - [NEW] Added Raw Quartz, something you can find in the sand after learning how - [NEW] Can now add +region objects to world specs for custom worlds (right now only defines music to play in those regions) - [NEW] Added the Mystic Hat to go with the robes - [NEW] Added the Mystic Robes, a fashion item for occultists or magicians - [NEW] Added the Silver Bow which raises the attack power of your special arrows - [NEW] Added the Silver Spear, also has an increased attack with specials - [NEW] Added the Silver Sword, a weapon that is normally weak except when used to perform special attacks - [NEW] Added the Brick Anvil as an upgraded anvil - [NEW] Added the oversized Cushion as a new furniture item - [NEW] Added spikes as a trap, they can even be retracted if connected to other props as a trigger - [NEW] Can now grow Sungrain, a type of cereal that doesn't need to be near lots of water to grow - [NEW] Added craftable overhanging shade, often seen in things like market stalls - [QOL] A prompt showing how the bucket works now appears when holding a bucket in hand - [QOL] You are now invulnerable for a short time after respawning (fixes some minor annoyances and bugs) - [QOL] Added an item ticker to the right to easily show the items you pick up (names and total amounts) - [QOL] Can now talk to NPCs from over tables - [QOL] Complete re-write of the system that moves new NPCs in, NPCs now directly appear next to beds and you see a message if the space can house NPCs - [FIX] Fixed a bug where newly spawned NPCs in a world past the first era did not always update on clients when they choose advanced roles during multiplayer - [FIX] Condition effects now fully wear off if they were cured by resting in a safe bed - [FIX] Arbitrary items no longer shown in description of the bucket when it contains liquid - [FIX] Fixed a visual bug in the drawing of blocks and slightly increased the performance when drawing them - [FIX] Fixed undefined era 1 trades in explore mode and fixed some bizarre trades that could occur in era 0 (like stone anvil for gems) - [FIX] Fixed a bug that could cause massive lag if an enemy attempts to continue chase into a room with a closed door in some situations - [FIX] Fixed a bug where a client could sometimes crash when joining multiplayer if the code that detects things like NPC suitable beds malfunctions - [FIX] Fixed a bug where some NPCs (usually citizens and villagers) in story mode sometimes vanished if the game was closed during a cutscene - [ADJ] The mortar pestle no longer needs mud in crafting, that part has been replaced with a wood bowl making it easier to get - [ADJ] Game will no longer be paused while crafting in single player, in-game time will pass - [ADJ] Item pickup sound and proficiency level up sounds were changed to be softer and easier on the ears - [ADJ] Replaced 48000 Hz audio option with 88200, the old option had some strange effects on the sound - [ADJ] Weakened the attack power of the flying Culler enemy and reduced its max HP a bit - [ADJ] Can now consume antidotes at any time, you no longer have to get out of danger - [ADJ] Removed the protection from the checkpoint rest stop in the middle of the volcano stage, and added a rest stop at the end immediately before the boss arena - [ADJ] Bosses now take 1/25th of the condition damage they used to, and the Thermophile and other robots/elementals are now immune to poison - [ADJ] Enemies that accumulate too much at the bottom of water will now be cleaned up - [ADJ] Ore no longer generates in NPC towns or other places where you would be unable to dig it up - [ADJ] NPCs will now regain their health if they're not in danger while inside a home area - [ADJ] Simulated blocks (water, sand, etc.) will no longer drain out the bottom of the world and be lost - [ADJ] Greatly increased the performance of the engine when a lot of effects are being played at once - [ADJ] Halved the maximum on total possible surface area that may be lava in the volcano level, the floor is no longer lava - [ADJ] Champions (bosses like the Thermophile) can no longer die from condition damage, but can be reduced to 1 HP - [ADJ] Home areas are now expanded when enough NPCs move into one zone at once - [ADJ] NPCs can now move into any place you've cleared (cave, altar, temple, etc.) and into abandoned houses regardless if there's a home area adjacent or not - [ADJ] Grass and other blocks that grow will no longer grow in some areas (villages, etc.) don't worry, these areas weren't yours to begin with

Multiplayer Area Protection, NPC Roles, and New Abilities

Protecting your items and builds from other players is an essential feature when hosting a public game server, and this update adds a feature to LandTraveller that does just that. If you rest in a bed in an area that hasn't been claimed yet and is far enough away from other players' areas, you can now claim it for yourself. Claiming an area prevents other players from building, destroying, or taking your items. They can still open and close doors and interact with some props. The area is 16x16 blocks in size (spanning up and down), but you can adjust this size for your server in the configuration file.

Story mode chapters will be added only when a complete draft is ready. In the meantime, I've added a new story quest to chapter 1 and gave NPCs roles in explore/multiplayer mode. Once you've advanced to the next era, some NPCs will even buy and sell things with you; that coin indicator at the bottom left of the menu wasn't just for show.

The enemies in chapter 2 can be tough on you, so I gave you eight new abilities to choose from. These are based on what you picked before for combat. You don't need to unlock the next era for them either, so they can help you out if you're having trouble with the first boss.

This game doesn't have complete darkness, but it might still be handy to have your own light source. This update includes a torch you equip in the top slot of your fashion items. It will emit a light in front of you when you have it on.

With a lot of the supporting props, items, abilities, enemies, etc. added, chapter 2 should be coming soon!
