Designed for kids, Max & the Magic Marker is a mess.

First of all, a game designed for kids has to control flawlessly. Good luck with that, the game has a noticeable input lag from the beginning, this would turn even the most forgiving child crazy. Add some inaccurate physics to the mix for the messy recipe.

Secondly, the levels are so simple and bland, the Magic Marker is nothing more than a gimmick, most of the time you are supposed to do what the developers thought it would be the ideal solution, so no creativity rewards. Draw what you want, it won't work 90% of the time.

Honorable mentions to the repetitive and horrible music, which cannot be turned off.

If my parents had bought me this game as a kid, I would have thought that they wanted to punish me.

Fun, colorful, and simplistic. I got it for extremely cheap and enjoyed this game thoroughly.

A fun and not very hard platformer that focuses on using magical ink to draw your way out of obstacles and hazards.

Combine any basic platformer with Crayon Physics Deluxe and you get Max and the Magic Marker. The platforming aspects are pretty simplistic and you don't really have to be all that creative with object drawings so I ended up just drawing the same squares and lines to progress past obstacles which made it feel boring and repetitive. Overall it's not that bad, but not that good either. Probably a good game for older kids due to some complex puzzle solving.

This game is awful. The concept is neat but they managed to ♥♥♥♥ it up with some questionable design decisions, poor platforming performance, and irritating level design. The drawing mechanics become very bland once you realize that almost all of the puzzles are solved with the same handful of solutions, making the entire game feel very repetitive.

Best game ever, it's about this dude named Max and he has this magical marker that makes him super cool and go on a grand adventure and cool stuff like that with his magical marker.. You should really get it, it's better than Guild Wars 2, Guild Wars 2 doesn't allow you to draw with a magic marker. Maybe if Guild Wars 2 let you draw with a magic marker with would be as good as this game. I really think Guild Wars 2 should copy this game and allow you to draw with a magical marker because that's what really makes this game exciting, so yeah Guild Wars 2 should definitely do that.

As a statement of intent, Max and the Magic Marker is laudable; as a technical exercise in game narrative, it's compromised, but it definitely has its strengths and is worthy of study.

Max and the Magic Marker is a triumph. But that’s not why you should play it. Engrossing, touching and rewarding, it’s well worth the experience on its own terms, too. By the end of this two-to-three-hour journey, it isn't just the house that'll seem lived-in, as the characters are equally realized and relatable.

If you admire a deep narrative, involving intensely detailed and interesting characters, enjoy exploring every nook and cranny, and can understand and empathise with a characters emotional/personal troubles and triumphs, then this game is sure to be a treasure. Please take your time with this game and be sure to soak it all in, it is a one of a kind.

Max & the Magic Marker is a children's game. The game play, platforming, and mechanics are simple and easy enough for a child to master in not very much time. The mechanic of drawing objects is implemented in a much better fashion in comparison to Crayon Physics Deluxe, for example, but that is still far from a compliment. The music is good, and fitting of the game world, but it does repeat quite often. The overall level design is bland, repetitive, and uninspired. The checkpoints are available throughout each level, and they are put to use for the benefit of the player, and not because of difficulty. Because of the game's overall limitation, it is better suited for short play times, as it does get boring very fast. Soon after progressing to the second world, the game has severe crashing to desktop problems with no errors. It simply quits the game and puts you back into the desktop. Other users have had the same exact problem and you can read further about it in the Steam forums. The developers have stayed silent about this game breaking issue, and have not responded in any way, nor corrected the problem with a patch. With an already extremely limited amount of content and bleak game play, Max & the Magic Marker feels more like an attempt at making large amounts of money than actual care and attention to game craftsmanship. The asking price for this game is pure insanity. Do not feed their greed and achingly poor game design and programming.

Max and the Magic Marker is bad.

Quite simply one of my favourite games ever!! From the presentation to the gameplay to the replayability , this game has it all for me. Forget the likes of platformer indie heavyweights like Super meat boy and Limbo this is the game that beats them by a country mile then some. The only letdown is the ridiculously high price on steam. Buy it from the indie royale bundle now!!

It's like Kirby's Canvas Curse! Except you have to move around instead of just letting your spherical shape do the work. And the physics are janky as all hell. Also your ink will be stolen from you every few minutes just because... I don't know why, really. Repeatedly, levels have reset on me as well.

I suppose what I'm saying is "you'd better get this discounted or really, really love Canvas Curse and be jonesing for more" or you may end up a smidge disappointed. (ask me about having to quit the game because I was trapped under a see-saw)

Why does that guy steal my ink?! I can't stop him - how annoying! And then right after he steals it, there is more ink to put me at the level of ink I was at before he took it?! It feels like a punishment every time that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the clouds steals my ink.

This is such a fun game! It puts creativity and fun together in a way that makes this game hard to put down. You are max who is a kid who draws his world and in his drawings he encounters enemies and obstacles that can be over come with his "magic marker". You solve puzzle and overcome the enemies that come in your way with the marker. The puzzles are not hard but when you get good at them there is a little something extra for finishing the puzzle in record time. There are things to find and places to explore in this game. Its a great casual game that should be picked up if ever you have the chance to. Its fun and has very good rhythm with the music and the flow of the levels. The graphic creativity between sketch and cartoon make this a truly unique game. I really loved playing this game, it was awesome and just put a smile on my face while playing it.

Very nice artistic, drawn style. The marker is a bit big, blocking sight, but game-play is fun with different aspects to drawing. A drawing physics platformer.

can't compare to Trine or Trine 2. But not bad effort overall. Would feel more at place on a touchscreen smartphone or iPod Touch.
