Darksiders II is pretty cool I guess.

You play as Raziel from Legacy of Kain, only he got really buff and super hot and calls himself Death now.
That last comment still doesn't make me gay.

Darksiders is a universe where Heaven and Hell have super slap fights so metal that another group called the Charred council told them to cut it out before they get the bigger, meaner school bullies to come beat them up. These school bullies are called the Horsemen, the survivors of a race of giant super soldiers called the Nephilim. Not to be confused with the big dumb nephelim from DmC: Devil May Cry who looked like they crashed into a H&M store and just kind of tried everything on without paying. These Nephilim are War, Death, Strife, And their hot sister Fury. Who I totally want to hold hands with.
See, I'm not gay.

Between this big mess of warring races and super soldiers, there are us, humans, also known as monkey goblins. Since Heaven and Hell are super strong and have big scary pointy weapons, the Charred council told the two to postpone their thunder-dome sized mosh pit until humanity has the cajones to actually put up a fight, which would probably involve giant robots and plasma cannons. And nuclear fists, especially nuclear fists. This truce however comes crashing down when one of the seals that stops the worlds biggest game of hand slaps is broken and War is blamed. So while in the first game you played as War as he recreates his love for the Zelda series, in this one you play as the much cooler Death, who sets out to clear his brothers name. Like my brother did that one time I was caught peeing in the Gym shower. Sorry Paul.

The combat is like a mix between an action-RPG and the good Devil May Cry series, the ones that don't star My Chemical Romance in the lead role. You can fight with dual scythes as well as a secondary weapon that could be anything from an overcompensating hammer to an overcompensating sword, to sock-em boppers and hulk hands, to an even bigger hammer.
This two button system works well together, allowing you to chain combos into air combos and into finishers like you're good at Guilty Gear or something. Not to mention all the other cool stuff like acrobatics and your trusty battle horse.

Many people who pretended to play Darksiders II would tell you that Death is a brooding, edgy, and trying-to-hard-to-be-cool protagonist. These people are liars and you shouldn't listen to them, they'll also probably tell you that the hot grade 7 science teacher is also into Junior high kids with mustaches and thick, gold-rimmed glasses. Isn't that right, KEVIN? Anyway, Death is actually pretty okay to be around, despite his name. He cracks jokes, provokes people to fight him, laughs at funny situations, shows emotional attachments, especially to his siblings, and likes to talk in that gravely, sexy voice of his. He also shows mercy, and even grants death (LIKE HIS NAME! ITS IN HIS NAME!) to those who wish for it. Death is by all means not a bad character, though he probably puts off those who have short attention spans, don't like to pay attention, or just judge books by their cover, I.e most video game critics.

Your journey should last you about 21 hours, at least it did for me. I did many of the side quests, especially the hunting ones where you challenge powerful side bosses to large scale games of hop scotch and murder. The story is pretty grand and not at all hard to follow, it takes many strides with its own lore and basks in it unapolegetically. The lore in games like this are usually ignored and flat out pretended not to be there mostly because people don't want to talk about it, but its there. There's politics, war (no pun intended), character back story, intrigue, and even Death himself develops in some ways. It's like a fantasy novel if it had sexy times with a heavy metal album cover. Dirty.

Should you play Darksiders II? I honestly say you should, its fun, grand, and feels like you're on an adventure, which many games fail to capivate. For its price, its kind of a good deal, but you can always wait for it to go on sale.

I give Darksiders 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12...Out of 10. I guess.

You can't hug your children with nuclear arms.

I'm not sure I've found a better hack'n'slash game better than Darksiders II.

And I'm not sure that I ever will.

The game has an infinite amount of wonderful things about it. The music is absolutely flawless. From Jesper Kyd, the guy who has brought the Borderlands' franchise flawless soundtrack, comes in with a mighty roar and comes crashing in with a spectacular soundtrack for Darksiders II.

The landscape and visuals are absolutely stunning - everything looks incredible, and well put together. When wandering around in the free and open world, you'll often find yourself pausing for a moment to admire the extravagant scenery and monsterous buildings around you.

The combat system is near perfect. The combos you can amass with the combined power of your wrath abilities, make for some godlike attacks. The ability to wield a primary weapon along side a secondary weapon is a nice touch to the combat system, and allowing you to pull off massive chain attacks when using both weapons at nearly the same time is nothing but creating pure chaos.

The bosses in the game are huge, and some aren't that easy at all to take down. They'll provide a hefty challenge if you cross one on your path.

The puzzle aspect of the game is also very intriguing - sometimes you'll be stuck in one area for a while trying to find the piece you need to complete the puzzle when it's often starting you in the face. Some of the puzzles are more intricate than others, and some are a walk in the park.

The game's story is astounding, and it's worth it to pay attention to some of the dialogue. The cutscenes look great and don't get in your way while playing.

A flawless game with stunning visuals and excellent gameplay - if you don't yet own this game, you're missing out.

11/10

+ Absolutely fantastic voice-acting; Michael Wincott (Death), in particular, delivered every line of dialogue perfectly
+ Environmental design is spectacular
+ Ambient music is notably well-done and usually fits the scene like a glove
+ Dungeons are sprawling, complicated, and well thought-out
+ Creative and interesting enemy design
+ Solid, enjoyable platforming mechanics
+ Game length will be enough that you're getting your money's-worth; I clocked in at around 20 hours on my first playthrough
+ Tons of collectibles, unlocks, and rewarding side-quests; this includes a number of optional dungeons
+ Equipment, stats, and character progression are a bit simplistic for an RPG, but if used well, can work very well in changing how your character performs in combat
+ Special abilites that you gain throughout your adventure are incredibly verstile, and remain useful throughout the entire game; they also add lots of depth to puzzle challenges and platforming

- All of the textures were awful
- This game might have the worst running animations I have ever, ever seen; it bothered throughout the entire game
- Not enough emphasis on combat executions; what little they included fell short enough that it might as well not have been included in the game at all
- The story is somewhat shallow, relying on endless fetch-quests - that didn't feel very consequential - as plot devices used to further your adventure

Fans of the First game will be stoked to play this as well. but if you haven't played it, don't be deterred, it will still have it's own allure to you. Darksiders 2 gives you and expansive 3 pronged world, Extensive itemization, your standard armor system and a quick and exhilirating combat system, you don't feel like the bosses are going through "stages" and that makes them less boring and repetive than say, A Platinum Title(Which I love anyways). The collectible system will grab at those with Completion needs, and the new game plus is perfect for a second, mor challenging run through.

If you like items, Slicing, Dicing, Dashing, a rudimentary scaling system, Awesome storylines, Astonsishing Art and backdrops. This is the game for you.

I will warn you that Once you reach a certain point, The game becomes easymode and you feel kind of Like you're playing a dysnasty warriors game otuside of bossfights. Overall great game.

I didnt care much for the Darksiders franchise, until I got this game from a Humblebundle and played it out of sheer boredom. And boy was I glad I did, because it's AMAZING.

So, what is this game?
In a way it's like Diablo, insofar as every killed enemy will drop items of varying quality, and the best unique equip along with a good skill selection can make you practically immortal. Also, legendaries and uniques are usually quest rewards or guaranteed drops from a boss rather than random.
However, the gameplay is very different - rather than relying purely on gear and stats, you'll have to dodge, combo, use countertactics etc... In a way it feels a lot like Dark Souls, only much faster and without such unnecessary hassle like Stamina or blocking. You'll roll around like a champ, hit insanely fast with your dual scythes, juggle enemies with aerial attacks or use devastating combos - and you'll have a blast doing it! The combat is the basis of this game, and gladly it's perfect.

What else?
The story runs somewhat in parallel to the first Darksiders - you play as Death, trying to redeem your brother War. It is well presented and fairly good, by action game standards (though, obviously, you shouldn't expect Tolkien level writing - this is still a game about killing tons of baddies in awesome ways). Voice acting is good, for the most part.

In between the combat, there are puzzle and platforming sequences. These are usually not very difficult, but Death is quite the artist when it comes to scaling walls and jumping over endless abysses, so it's still kinda enjoyable.

Boss battles make a return, but unlike the bosses in the first Darksiders, most involve actual combat rather than puzzles that have to be done 5 times, and therefore they are pretty enjoyable.

The game world is not an open world, but it is big enough to give a sense of exploration at times, there are quite a few optional dungeons and it is mostly well designed and interesting.

I played on Apocalyptic difficulty, which is the highest normal difficulty, and offered a fair, but doable, challenge. If you beat the game once you unlock Nightmare Mode, which has permanent character death, and NG+, thus offering a bit of the replayability the game is otherwise lacking.

TL; DR:
Dark Souls on speed, with tons of semi-random loot?
10 / 10, would slaughter monster-hordes again.

The first darksiders game was a lot of fun, but felt like a super cheesy zelda clone that would have looked right at home on the PS2. With Darksiders 2, Vigil really stepped up their game and made an engaging experience that never got old (in fact, leaves you wishing there were more). It's disappointing then, that Darksiders 2 didn't sell too well and left the possibility of a third installment in limbo.

If you haven't played it, definitely pick it up. It goes on sale quite often, but it's easily worth a non-sale purchase. If you're concerned about needing to play the first game to be able to 'get into it', don't worry. The first game's story was pretty nonsensical biblical crap, and DS2 quickly remedies that by cutting ties to the first game within the first few minutes of the game. It's basically a couple seconds of vague recap, then ditches the contrived biblical baggage from the first game and replaces it with a unique fantasy setting that is absolutely awesome. The amount of work that went into making Death a likeable character is staggering, and makes me really wish somebody would pick up the license and make games for the remaining two horsemen (and maybe even give War another shot with the same high production values they gave Death)

I recommend this game if you like how the story of the Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse goes.

I have beaten Darksiders 1 100% and Darksiders 2 is defiantly a challenge on how much new content they added plus the new weapon system in this game mode as well.
If you like a good story and a good playthrough with some challenge puzzles here then this is the game for you.

Zelda just met Assassin's Creed. This game is full of great puzzles that you need to solve, non-stop action and great boss fights. I have not had a chance to fully play the first one, but what I can tell from what I have played is that Vigil really stepped up there game. The setting and visuals are amazing and everything looks stunning. The game is a huge game with many, many locations and quests that can be done.

Legend of zelda, but hack and slash. Not much else i can say honestly. The environments are stunning the level design is spot on, even the dungeons are a fantastic exploration experience. The only major flaw i can find is movement speed, Death doesnt exacly go all that fast which can make your play time a bit... distorted. Its still a masterpiece though. such a shame it wasnt released with a ton of promotion/ hype. Even still, i give the entire franchise a 10/10.

Beautiful, immersive, fun and challenging.

If you liked the first Darksiders game, you will love this one too, it has everything good from the first one and much more, like character progression choices and other RPG elements like equipement and weapon crafting to some extent.
This game features huge, beautifully designed open worlds filled with challenging dungeons full of danger, puzzles, platforming aspects and rewards.
It has faster and more dynamic combat than the first game since Death is much more agile than War, and you can choose which atributes to focus and which skills to learn and create a unique charracter to your liking. No matter which skill line you option for, you can still learn all the fighting moves, and there are plenty of these, use all of the weapon types and wear any armor you find without any penalty, trully, a non restrictive RPG.

Same as with the first Darksiders game, this one is also awfully optimized for PC and you will either have no problem with it, or have tons like i did, however, it can all be tweaked and fixed rly fast. I used RadeonPro tool to make it smooth and playable for me, and it will probably work for everyone else as well.

Despite the bad porting, this game is a gem and a "must play" title and i recommend it to anyone who liked the first Darksiders game and to anyone who loves a good RPG/Adventure with a fast paced combat.

Considdering the lackluster reviews i'd read i had expected this to be worse than the original Darksiders. I picked it up for pittence in a sale to give it a go. MY GOD was i impressed. This game is the best i've played all year - only problem is it is quite long so its just down to finding the time to play. So many of the ♥♥♥♥les from darksiders 1 have been fixed to my mind (with teleporting, weapon level ups, and character levelling to give you a greater understanding of your capability when it comes to killing enemies and game progression). The puzzles arent too hard and if i were to say one negative thing it's that playing on Appocolyptic, the puzzle difficulty doesnt scale as well as NPC difficulty. Played Appocolyptic and its a challenge but certainly not impossible. Some of the reviews on Amazon suggested that "Easy" was too hard... If this is the case for the reviewer then they must have some kind of gaming disability.

I found no bosses easy. Not one. Some are certainly harder than others but on appocolyptic you really need your head screwed on to take the bosses down; which is a breath of fresh air when compared to so many "money collection games" such as Call of Duty where I completed veteran mode on every game within 10 hours (whats the point?!). NPCs have a great scale-factor when entering new zones, they start off insanely hard but as you gain gear they all become satifyingly easy before moving onto the next area to rinse and repeat.

EXCELLENT GAME 5 Stars

I'll put it this way. Did you like any Legend of Zelda Games (post Ocarina of Time)? Did you like any of the God of War Games? Did you like the first Darksiders?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, BUY this game. It's a fantastic game - even if you'd consider it "mediocre" for it's genre (it's not), you'll still have a lot of fun playing it.

Darksiders 2 is a good game, not amazing but good. the story is easy to follow but nonethless a good one, the game is better than the first one in every aspect. while Darksiders 1 was very linear. Darksiders 2 gives you side quests and a somewhat free-world. the combat is fluid and fast paced. rather than the stiff and slow of the first one. one thing i absolutely love is that you play as Death. that feel when you can just say " ♥♥♥♥ing casul i'm the ♥♥♥♥mothering Death, you ain't got ♥♥♥♥ on me"
