Wozu Early Access?

“Early Access will help us create a better game. We experienced this with our other game, Turmoil, which was in Early Access for one year before its official release. The Early Access community helped us improve the game tremendously and we’re hoping the same will happen with Team Racing League.

We believe Team Racing League can fill the gap of a team-based/MOBA-like game in the racing genre. While we have a load of ideas to improve and expand on the game ourselves, we want to explore what else is possible for the game together with the Steam community. Would you like to see more game modes, new tracks or maybe new vehicles? We want your input while we continue to develop and add more content. Let's create the perfect team racing game together!”

Wie lange wird dieses Spiel ungefähr den Early Access-Status haben?

“We're not quite sure. Game development is unpredictable. It's done when it's done. It might take half a year, it might take a year. It might take longer. We'll do our best to improve the game, add relevant content and make the game bigger and more successful during Early Access.”

Wie soll sich die Vollversion von der Early Access-Version unterscheiden?

“Based upon player feedback, we will see where new mechanics and abilities are needed and most welcome. Cosmetically we like the direction of the game, but we're sure that improvements will be made over time to the environments, the vehicles and the UI.

There are also loads of ideas for other game modes, race tracks and features that we may add. This also depends on player feedback and input. The reason we don't support local multiplayer from start is that we wanted to focus all our development capacity on a solid online multiplayer. We have a small team and aren't that experienced in multiplayer development yet, but we believe we're doing a decent job here. If the player base allows it, we might add local multiplayer and co-op multiplayer features. So spread the word and challenge your friends :-)”

Was ist der derzeitige Stand der Early Access-Version?

“The core gameplay is solid. The drifting and racing physics are intuitive, skill-based and rewarding. The available player abilities are skill-based, while still very accessible to players with less time to game. By focusing on the team aspect, we believe the Early Access launch-version of the game is fun to play for both competitive players as more casual players.

In single player, people can polish their skills in Training mode and Time Trial. Training is meant to explain and experience the game's mechanics, while in Time Trial you can work on your racing skills against your own ghost.

The online multiplayer consists of one game mode: 3v3 team racing. We tested this as good as we can but the real testing (technical and gameplay) will start when we enter Early Access. Please be gentle with us, but be straight and fair. We like to hear what you like about the game, but what you dislike as well, so we can learn from our mistakes and improve and polish your gaming experience. Help us deliver the best and most fun racing game you can imagine!”

Wird dieses Spiel während und nach Early Access unterschiedlich viel kosten?

“During Early Access, it will be very unlikely that we'll change the price of the game. Changes to this policy may however occur if there are unforeseen costs or gains, or if the product we have in mind changes dramatically. Whether the price will be different at full release will depend on the development of the game during Early Access.”

Wie werden Sie versuchen, die Community in den Entwicklungsprozess mit einzubeziehen?

“We have a clear direction for this game in mind, but we are eager to hear if the community thinks this is the right way to go. We’ll keep a very close eye on the forum and will try to respond as clearly as possible to all questions and suggestions from the players. Do you like the game and its mechanics? Do you agree with the balancing of the game? Would you like to see other game modes or changes on the current one? Etc. We will be introducing new features and content along the way, but will listen to what players want and think of our ideas. We hope for a great match between our vision and external input.

Besides adding new stuff, there’s of course also the technical side of maintaining and dealing with an online multiplayer game. The team is small and our experience in online multiplayer isn't very rich, so please keep that in mind when the game doesn't meet your expectations. Let us know what we can improve and we promise to at least respond to your request. We’re aiming for a smooth multiplayer experience and will try to keep improving the game without adding bugs.

Alpha Update #4

Hey there!

Exciting news: there will be a big EU Beta test tonight at 8pm CEST. Join in to experience Team Racing League the right way, hopefully with lots of other players!



Don't have access yet? Sign up on teamracingleague.net. Also, there are multiple keys up for grabs at different websites that are helping us out with the test tonight. In preparation of this Beta test, the game got several updates and tweaks:

New
  • Player Stats – Live stats on the number of players and games.
  • UI – Improvements for the joining/hosting process.
  • Backend - various optimisation in both code and art to smoothen your race.
  • Trophies – Earn Trophies for everything you do, every race. (still in development!)

A bit further down the road:
We're working on various cool features for the game, like Teams (a guild/clan system), Twitch integration (vote on your favourite team or player) and improving the Trophy system with Tiers and how to earn them. These features are nearly done, but not polished and turned off for tonight’s Beta test. But rest assured, all will be ready for the Early Access release this August.

Gameplay

  • Roasting - We’ve added a new mechanic to the game that can be used in two ways:
  • The Afterburner is a solo ability, which lets players overheat their flames in order to roast blocks or opponents.
  • The Flamethrower does the same, but can only be activated when two teammates connect. The double flames will burn stuff even faster.
  • Solo Boost - Solo Boost got even more powerful. Boost into other players to make their vehicle go totally berserk or use it to disable enemy abilities, like anchor mode or roadblock.

Game Content
  • Training - You can now practice and experiment with the game’s mechanics in Training mode, our Tutorial.
  • Lighting - We’ve upgraded some visual effects, like drifting, smoke, flames and explosions, to make ‘m even more sexy and shiny.
  • Menu - The menu got a complete overhaul. The homepage now contains news, social buttons and we’ve added new backgrounds everywhere.
  • Music - We’ve added a new background music track, bringing the total to 3 different tracks. A win or loss tune was also added, depending on your race results.
  • 2v2 race - In this build, the game will also start with 4 players in the lobby, should you not be able to find 6 players in total. It may not be as fun and complete as a 3v3 race, but it’s a whole lot better than waiting!

Team Racing League is the first team-based racing game where you win and lose as a team. Compete in an online 3v3 race where skill and collaboration are key to victory. Team up, strategize and use smart tactics and unique abilities to disrupt and beat the opposing team in a MOBA-like clash!

Players have a range of skill-based abilities at their disposal to race, crash, boost, drift, block, jump and brake their way to success. Choose to fight for position, play a support role or turn around to troll your opponents. Only one team member needs to finish, so not everyone on the team needs to race. Players choose which role they will fulfil. They can race, support the lead racer by blocking opponents or by connecting their hovercraft with someone from their team. Once connected, dual abilities become available. Extend into a roadblock to obstruct opponents and create speed boosts for allies passing through, charge up boosts to speed up together or unleash a devastating flamethrower, burning opposing players and blocks.

Team Racing League is inspired by retro arcade racing games like Super Off Road, Micro Machines and Championship Sprint. Instead of relying on power-ups, the game is is all about teamwork and racing skills. It aims to be a pure racer, without artificial equalizing mechanics. During the race the complete track and all racers are visible in a top-down view so players have an excellent overview of the race. Team up with friends and beat your opponents together in exciting online multiplayer matches!
