About This Game

From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters.
Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.
New technology dubbed "the AI Director" is used to generate a unique gameplay experience every time you play. The Director tailors the frequency and ferocity of the zombie attacks to your performance, putting you in the middle of a fast-paced, but not overwhelming, Hollywood horror movie.
  • Addictive single player, co-op, and multiplayer action gameplay from the makers of Counter-Strike and Half-Life
  • Versus Mode lets you compete four-on-four with friends, playing as a human trying to get rescued, or as a zombie boss monster that will stop at nothing to destroy them.
  • See how long you and your friends can hold out against the infected horde in the new Survival Mode
  • An advanced AI director dynamically creates intense and unique experiences every time the game is played
  • 20 maps, 10 weapons and unlimited possibilities in four sprawling "movies"
  • Matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play
  • Designer's Commentary allows gamers to go "behind the scenes" of the game
  • Powered by Source and Steam

THE SACRIFICE

"The Sacrifice” is the new add-on for Left 4 Dead.

"The Sacrifice" is the prequel to "The Passing," and takes place from the L4D Survivors' perspective as they make their way South. In addition to advancing the story, "The Sacrifice" introduces a new style finale featuring "Sacrificial Gameplay" where players get to decide who will give their life so the others may live.

In The Sacrifice for Left 4 Dead owners receive "The Sacrifice" campaign playable in Campaign, Versus, and Survival modes.

Long review short: Left 4 Dead is good. Go play it, if you haven't already (which I highly doubt).

Long review long: Left 4 Dead is one of Valve's many titles that is made with the same care and quality they are known to put into a game. Although, to be completely fair, Left 4 Dead is probably my least favorite game by Valve so far.

Left 4 Dead follows a group of 4 humans who have managed to survive the zombie apocalyse and must fight their way through hordes of undead mobs in order to find safety. There's a hardened Vietnam vet, a young girl, a businessman, and a biker who's very obviously faking his masculinity throughout the game. The story and characters are, obviously, not that well fleshed-out (hence why I don't like L4D as much as say... Half-Life or Portal).

What Left 4 Dead is exceptionally good at is co-op zombie killing. The fast-paced action combined with tight FPS controls and multitude of weapons allow for some engrossing, addicting fun. It is designed around you getting online with a group of friends to play together, but since only one of my friends plays this game I decided to make the worst decision possible with Left 4 Dead: I played singeplayer with AI companions.

Now, the AI for the zombies is all well-done and polished. They run wildly at you and go for the first possible route that can lead to them ripping your throats out. But zombie AI is easy. And Valve seriously f***ed up with the ally AI. They're absolutely awful. They stay in the same group and are more of a hindrance than a help to you. I once was on the ground and needed assistance, while all three of my companions stood blindly 5 feet in front of me, staring at each other's feet, until I died right in front of them.

On top of that, the last level "The Sacrifice" is bulsh**. I don't care what anyone else says. I hated the finale. It goes against all intuition that the player has received in the game thus far. When I saw 4 motherf***ing Tanks come out with the hundreds of other zombies, I thought that I'd have to kill them all. It wasn't until I died 5 times that the game explicitly told me to restart the generator, which was an even bigger pain, because the zombies in the area will magnetize themselves to your fleshy body faster than you can say "Oops!". It's just a frustrating last few minutes to an otherwise enjoyable game.

Left 4 Dead is an enjoyable arcade-y zombie game that gives you the tingles whenever you hear the growls of a zombie in the distance, and is both enjoyable and intense to play, which many other zombie games have a tendency to struggle with. I know it's just a simple shooter game, but I still prefer Valve when they actually have stories to tell, but this is stull a fun game. It's worth your money. I'm giving Left 4 Dead a 7/10.

Why can't I just join a normal versus game without being kicked for some stupid reason, or joining those servers with like 15 Surviors/Zombies in them. The game itself is fun to play but the online community ruins the fun at the same time. Only play online with friends.

The original maps can be found in the second game, but it's still good to come back to this game sometimes
One thing that annoys me is that you can't buy the bundle if you own the game, therefore you have to pay full price if you want to buy both games for friends.

This is a great FPS Zombie game!

+Interesting areas
+Nice characters
+Creepy monsters
+Funny quotes from the characters while playing

The standard price at 19,99£ is a bit too much for 10-15 hours (one run), wait until it comes on sale.

Left 4 Dead is the game for you who likes to survive in a zombie apocalypse. Beware of the Boomer!

L4D is a great game with many features such as a weight to your character and objects in the world. It can become a big challenge becoming to hectic so make sure you play the game a good amount so you can fully get it down! Heavily teamate based I have a great time with close friends and randoms! Only complaint is I wish the community was less TOXIC!

The community is just toxic. 80% of the players are burnt out teenagers who want to keep grinding the game and have no intention of helping you.

God I don't want to kill myself but it does make you rethink your position on 56th trimester abortions.

(The good) of this game is the world and the end of the world with the undead trying to kill you at every given chance

(The Bad) The AI are terrible if you are trying to beat all expert levels!
The players are not any better by any means and love to quit after they fail a couple of times.
If you are going to fight by my side on expert, stop quiting! It can take up to 5 hours or more
I'm not going to K.I.C.K you for failing a few times, as long as you are trying your best
It amazes how far this game has gone down since its release in 2008 with these nasty
Players.
I beat one expert level with rookies who didn't give up just resent but it took us around 5
Hours but we did it even after trying over and over again.
You have to have patience sometimes but you try telling that to kids under 18

If you plan on beating this on expert. Get friends or make some, because you won't be
Able to.
Still a great game but you will get bored real fast with most of the players being nasty
People and ruining it for you

GOOD LUCK

So they've finally caught on with CSS' zombie horde/escape modes. This is what the end result of it is: A story of four characters making their way from point A to B without dying(hopefully) and survive.

As of right now, L4D 1 and 2 is kinda dead because I can barely find a game with randoms playing(you'll be lucky if you even find one random game going on - I guess it could be the time of day), but if you got friends already playing or don't mind giving it a run for old times sake or whatever, then this is a great zombie killing and escaping exerpeince(especially with surround sound)!

I feel really bad for the people who bought this right before L4D2 released. I love Valve, but guys.. you ♥♥♥♥ed up with l4d2. You completely scammed everyone who patroned this game. To the point where I don't trust them with l4d3. I'm not gonna be buying it until I know it's not just the same game with more ♥♥♥♥.

Luckily, servers are still frequently made and visited. L4D1 is not abandoned. So overall, which one you want entirely depends on this;
Do you prefer quality? (l4d1) or quantity? (l4d2)

Unexcelled cooperative game, best of it's kind. Game balance differ from sequel enough to be worth walkthrough even now, especially on expert difficulty. For those, who have something to prove.

Great game. Love the story and maps. Great fun for any gamer out there. And if you've only played this game go ahead and check out left 4 dead 2 with the same maps. Characters and better in almost every way
