About This Content

Explore the galaxy and discover the secrets of long-forgotten worlds. Uncover lost treasures of the past, discover ancient technologies, and guide your empire into a new age of prosperity. How you choose to handle unexpected events and challenges will have a direct impact on how each newfound treasure functions within your empire.

Features:

  • New Colony Events: As you colonize planets, new colonization events will challenge your people and your integrity. Each new event provides new Ideology choices that may award unique planetary improvements and ship components. Some of these events appear later in the game, so keep your eyes open!
  • New Planetary Improvements: During your explorations, you will uncover new and unique planetary improvements that may function differently based on your Ideology choice. Choose wisely - you can only build one improvement of each type per empire!
  • New Ship Components: Discover dozens of new and powerful ship components like the "Ancient Singularity Cannon", "Subspace Splinter", and the "Hyper Gate Core". Your Ideology Choice may affect how these new components work on your ship. Work fast against your enemies - each of these ancient treasures is unique and you can only have one in a fleet at a time.

Yet another DLC released for Galactic Civilizations 3. As an elite founder, I love this. Every DLC is like a gift- even if I had paid for it long in advanced. When I look at all the DLC that has been released there are two kinds which I love more then all others- New Races, which this is not, and New Events, which this is. This DLC is all about adding new colonisation events to the game- events which are very similar in value to the precursor ones but are unable to be predicted. These events unlock a series of ideologically modified national wonders and hero units which help add to your personal race customisation options greatly. You like warfare? Well you can get a super powered component for a ship. You like colony/empire building and specilisation? Pick up some new and awesome one planet improvements that you can use to support, strengthen or redefine your colonies.

Basically I love anything which gives me more options in the grander scale, new races to meet, super abilities to use and events to find and I would more then welcome future event dlcs as time goes on. Is it required? No. In fact much like the precursor planets DLC this one will likely be more valuable once you have played a few games and learnt the mechanics a bit better. Overall a solid addition to the GalCiv family and I can't wait to see what is next.

This is a pretty inoffensive DLC. You get about a dozen new colony events, so that what, 42c per event, not too bad. You get some new weapons and components that make this pew-pew more or zoom-zoom more or maybe a new building that does something. It is what it says it is.

You do get some nice new art, though one point of polish is that you don't seem to get new models for components. Just to make them pop more, but that's really a polish point.

One thing I can't comment on is if it break things in terms of balance. I lucked out and got a +35 beam weapon from an event on my 4th turn. If I had thought about it rather than trying to get more events I could have put out a ship that could hobble an AI, particularly on smaller maps. The devs might want to look at maybe giving these super components a galactic resource (in this case it would be at least elerium) requirement to build as well. Then again I may never get this event so soon again...something to think about I guess.

All in all, does what it say and $5 for a dozen events that give you a dozen new component and a couple of new improvement isn't a terrible deal.

Add more events throughout the game that allows you many more choices that affect how you play your empire. Overall get it if you like to role play or like to make choices based off a viewpoint.
