About This Game

Bayla Bunny has discovered a book full of maps to magical treasures and loot, and sets out on an exciting adventure to discover them all. Energized and ready to explore, she takes off running and once she gets going, she rarely stops!

Bayla Bunny offers a fun gameplay experience combining the best of platform- and runner-games, and your task is to control Bayla as she hops, runs, jumps, bounces, ducks, swings, rides and rocket herself through 27 challenging levels collecting coins, keys and treasure chests full of goodies. The faster you complete a level, the higher ranking you will achieve. But this is not an easy task … Obstacles will hinder your progress, and you will encounter enemies such as rowdy raccoons, pushy porcupines, raging bulls, evil mushrooms, crazy plants and frog kings all while avoiding flying arrows, rolling barrels, dancing fireballs, speedy cannonballs, pounding hammers and dangerous dynamite!

Bayla Bunny is not only cute; it is a fun game suitable to anyone looking for an exhilarating platform experience full of rewards and surprises.

What is Bayla Bunny?

Bayla Bunny is EnsenaSoft's attempt at creating a platforming game that is accessible for all ages (e.g. kid friendly). However, adults, be warned! You'll never be able to get over the nightmares of the piano played 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.'

Gameplay

The game plays as a normal platformer where players run and jump among other basic mechanics that players of platformers will be familiar with.

The game adds more and more mechanics to its game over the course of its 27 levels. I would have liked to have seen more than one level between the introduction of some mechanics. Not because I wasn't already familiar with how they worked but rather that reinforcement of skills has proven to work. As a result, I feel that some younger gamers may become frustrated as they are forced into an information overload. Adding more levels would also provide greater value to the title.

Better With a Controller

The game initially advises you to press the left and right buttons for movement. This does work. However, for whatever reason it felt sluggish. I soon picked up my controller to see if the game had controller support. Thankfully, it does. It also makes the game control a lot more naturally. As a result I recommend that if you have a controller that you play with that rather than the keyboard.

There was, however, one slight problem that I discovered with the controller. I couldn't work out how you are able to move to the next level. Therefore, I had to use my mouse between levels to select the next level. If it isn't possible to do this with the controller then I would advise that the developer update the game with this feature added. This would be viewed as a quality of life improvement.

Presentation

The game has clearly been designed with a younger audience in mind. Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to expect a cartoon-like graphical feel to the game. As aforementioned the music throughout the game incorporates a heavy dose of 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' into the game. The sound is acceptable as well. Arguably the presentation is the best part of the game as it can definitely be seen to be engaging to its target audience.

Is it Steamified?

It's an EnsenaSoft game on Steam. Do you think it's Steamified? Of course it isn't. Though I do hear that the developers are looking into changing that. Trading cards and achievements would be a great touch that encourages their potential player base to pick up their already cheap titles.

Verdict

Any self respecting adult will likely pass at listening to the music on repeat. However, for a child's first platformer it's a pretty solid title. I'd like to have seen more time given to the introduction of mechanics but that's really the only gripe that I have with the game. It's really the 'My First' version of platformer.

I was thoroughly enjoying this game and then I got to the boat level and my dreams were smashed all over the floor because I could not achieve my dream of controlling a boat and collecting coins.
