Great game.

It's set in a fictional medieval world in which 6 factions fight for influence. Each of them is stylized after a certain historical cultural group (the Mongols, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, Russia and Arabian countries).

You start as an adventurer and gather followers, then fight some bandits and do quests for Lords of these 6 factions. After some time you can join them as a mercenary and take part in big battles as a commander of your own 'warband' (you and your followers'. You have to manage supplies (just remembeer to buy food in towns every now and then) and have money for wages.

When you gain some renown you can become a lord yourself, and get a small village from your king (in return for pledging to fight for him). From now on you can possibly get even more fiefs (castles, towns) and gain money from taxes. You can then try to become a king yourself by starting a rebelion and convincing other lords to join you... but you don't have to. You can just keep fighting for your faction, or you can simply be a trader, or a bandit, or whatever you want.

The game also has a HUGE amount of mods. From ones that improve the base game (eg.' Diplomacy' [which despite it's name doesn't rework only diplomacy but also makes other useful changes]) to ones that completely rework the game (eg. 'Floris').

If you don't like the game's setting (or got bored of it) you can also change it through mods, for example:

* Prophesy of Pendor - slight fantasy setting, overall many people consider it to be the best mod for the game
* A Clash of Kings - set in the world of 'A song of Ice and Fire'
* Gekokujo - set in the feudal Japan
* Brytenwalda - historical mod set in 636 AD Europe (it's a base for the official 'Viking Conquest' DLC)
* L'Aigle - set during the historical Napoleonic Wars
* Perisno - a big fantasy mod (more fantasy than Prophesy of Pendor)
* And many more that you can find on Steam Workshop or Moddb

The game also has a multiplayer mode, in which you can fight other players in field battles or sieges (FFA or team vs team) (there is the native-compatibile [native means the base game without mods or DLC] multiplayer mod called NeoGK which greatly improves sieges). MP is still alive and doing well, with a lot of players active (at least where I live - central Europe).

So... this was a long review but I just wanted you to know that it's a great game for many hours of gameplay (I have more hours in this than Steam shows, I think). Just don't expect a great story, because I think that it's one of the few things that the game DOESN'T have.

this is all you need to be persuaded:

"Uninstall KOTOR. Forget TIE Fighter and Star Wars Battlefront. There is only one Star Wars video game, and it's an unfinished mod for a six-year-old medieval RPG built by an indie studio from Turkey." -PC Gamer

>Start in Kingdom of Nords because vikings are cool
>Finish starting quests
>Start exploring the world
>Notice a group of 15 bandits on horseback
>Ohshit.jpg
>Run for my life but is cornered by a group of 5 other bandits coming in from the opposite direction

>I start my journey all over
>I finish quests given to me by the vassal lords, win tournaments, hone my skills, and finally become a vassal myself to the Nord King
>However I still remember the deaths of my 4 companions and my thirst for revenge grew stronger each second
>I make an army of over 30 highly trained hurcarls, as well as some archers, and begin my hunt for those bandits that wronged me long ago
>Spot my first group of bandits, only 15 strong and on foot
>Go in for the kill
>They run away from me into the hostile neighboring territory of the Kingdom of Swadia
>I hesitate at first, but then i remember the horrid things done to me at the hands of those bandit ♥♥♥♥ers
>The steep terrain of the area slowed me down considerably
>It was night but I was on their heels
>Suddenly 2 Swadian bands appear out of the dark, right in front of me
>Each 100+ men strong
>The lord that reaches me first demands my surrender
>I have no choice but to fight
>I set my huscarls to follow me into a charge while the archers stay behind to provide supressive fire
>Steel clashing on steel and the screams of the dying can be heard all around
>Though I am battered and i have lost over 2/3rds of my army, i manage to defeat the Swadian scum
>Suddenly, i notice something in the corner of my screen
>"A new wave of enemies has arrived"

Hey you! Yes you!

-Have you ever dreamt of world domination with hordes of crazy asian horsemen?
-Tired of all those multiplayer games where veterens always have the highest teir equipment?
-Enjoy getting beaten senseless by various groups of men yelling "I will drink from your skull!"?

Then Mount & Blade: Warband is the game for you!

Hop into a world where you will forget you have a life. A multiplayer where veteren players charge at you half naked with deformed faces. Emmersive and brutal singleplayer campaigns as you rise from rags to riches, constantly being reminded its almost harvesting season.

Worth every penny, pound, peso, and denar. Two great DLCS: Fir- I mean- Napoleonic Wars and Viking Conquest along with tons of random mods. Buy it now and then be ready to do it agian in Bannerlords!

(This has been a meesage from the Calradian Farmers Association- "It's almost Harvesting Season!")

M&B: Warband is a great game. I remember playing the first M&B and falling in love. I was invested in my army more than I ever was in any other army in any other game. When I talk about this game, I always mention that one time when one of my elite bodyguards beautifully saved my life during a siege, but then when I turned to him to say thank you, an arrow pierced his head ... it was dramatic and I loved it! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=440357386 http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=731820796 Unlocked all achievements!

How it went
- Bought game and 10:15 AM
- Played for a while, was thouroughly impressed
- I wake up from what seems like a dream at 4 AM the next morning
- Still made hardly any progress

Legitimately one of, if not the best games on Steam

14/10, would play again, and have, for ~220 more hours.

Mount & Blade: Warband is an incredibly addicting and absorbing medieval game. There's no set path or goal except for that which you make yourself, allowing one to advance through the game perpetually hunting and killing bandits as the head of a ruthless body of sellswords, or to start your own nation and proceed to announce war on everyone because you see it fit. The combat is exciting to partake in, notably when you get to larger battles with more units on the ground. In my opinion it's worth the full price.

ps if you go into a tournament and get a jousting stage, keep calm and realize that this might take a long time

I can honestly say in the last 10 years of playing literally hundreds of games, that this is the best one.

I've dumped over 80 hours in the last 2 weeks into it and I dont feel myself getting bored. Infact, I feel like i'm just scraping the surface. As I play through a campaign of M&B Viking Conquest (I cannot recommend enough), I'm both totally immersed in this play-through, but also insanely excited thinking about what I'm going to do the next time.

A lot of games shove really obvious "This decision will change your play-through." scenarios at you but still railroad you through the rest of the game. In M&B Viking Conquest, the choices truly feel like they carry so much weight. They truly feel like you have complete control of your destiny.

I've always struggled to become immersed in Dragon Age, or other adventure or RPG games. The worlds are often shallow and predictable. I remain fully immersed in this game, my play-through, my companions, my armies.

Long story short, I give this games a 9.5/10. The only deduction I can even think of is it has crashed twice in 80 hours. (But I save often.)

Infinite replayability. Great gameplay. Great story. Cannot recommend enough. Not only worth the money, but knowing what I know now, would definitely be willing to pay triple-A title money for it.

And spring for Viking Conquest Reforged. Pretty much mandatory in my opinion.

I havent felt this addicted to a game since World of Warcraft. Except its not to grind. It's to levy armies, construct forts, spread lies about nobles, going on trade expeditions so I can afford to keep my armies, contracting ship-wrights to make me custom ships, spread Christianity to pagans, --- But most of all, doing all this with the ultimate goal of revenge on a Jarl from a far away place. Infact, there are other Jarls and Nobles who have crossed me as well. I wont forget that and I will see revenge for those transgressions as well.
