About this Content

The Crucible DLC introduces a challenging new arena gameplay mode to the Action RPG Grim Dawn. Enter the Crucible, a harsh battleground filled with waves of Grim Dawn’s deadliest fiends. There you will engage in magnificent combat for the amusement of the Crucible’s mysterious overlord, Lokarr. But he is not a cruel master: endure his trials and be rewarded with vast wealth; fail, and know only his scorn.

Countless combatants have fallen prey to the Crucible’s brutal machinations. Will you survive where others have fallen? Or will the arena’s monstrosities, traps, and dark magic get the best of you?

The Crucible is an alternate game mode available to all Main Campaign characters, starting at level 1.

Key Features

Multiple Arenas – Battle across four deadly arenas filled with Grim Dawn’s most vicious beasts and monstrosities. Each arena features a different layout with varied defensive positions.

  • Conquer 150 Unique Waves – Wage tireless battle against 150 unique waves of Grim Dawn’s monster menagerie. The farther you go, the more challenging the combinations become, with the possibility of encountering multiple bosses at once! Progress through the first 100 waves to unlock additional difficulties, which present an even greater challenge but also more reward.

  • Vast Wealth Awaits – The more enemies you defeat, the more treasure and Tributes await you at the end. Cash out your reward and claim your prize, or push farther for even greater wealth; but know that failure also means less treasure.

  • Earn the Favor of the Celestials – Spend hard-earned Tributes to activate powerful arena-wide buffs which empower you and your allies in battle against the Crucible’s fiends.

  • Forge Powerful Defenses – Spend Tributes and Iron Bits to bolster the arena with defenses that aid you in battle. Upgrade them for even greater power!

  • Endure Cruel Mutators – Deadly minions are just the beginning in the Crucible’s arsenal. As you progress through the event, randomized Mutators will become active, amplifying your foes (or you) in one way while weakening them in another.

  • Personal Leaderboard – Keep track of your performance in the Crucible with a personal leaderboard that stores your scores based upon the monsters defeated, the game difficulty and a score multiplier earned by defeating waves of enemies before the bonus timer expires.

Really nice DLC for the price, adds some bonus content for us who like wave based gameplay, and a nice reward system, The higher waves The higher rewards.

Just my thoughts on the dlc.

Don't buy this unless you are max level and bored of the end game. The rewards are disapointing and experience gain might as well be non existent. Feels like a complete waste of time as opposed to just playing the normal game.

This should have been for free. Garbage. Feels like a needed patch.

Also requires a seperance instance from the campaign so everytime you want to go back you have to exit and switch back.

D3 did this but alteast you could visit the zones where the story took place.

The Crucible Mode DLC for Grim Dawn is absolutely worth it, hands down. Is this a huge amount of new content? No, but it is a high-quality addition, and adds a whole new element/mode to an already great game. You can get tons more replay time with this DLC.

I'm not gonna fellate this DLC for being amazing and innovative and stuff because it's not. It's a horde mode, wave based thing with some neat mechanics and some leaderboards.

What I DO appreciate is that it's completely optional from a progression standpoint and is perfectly priced for what it is. It's a level more braindead than Grim Dawn is otherwise and that's not a bad thing. It's perfect for zoning out to while you listen to podcasts or something.

The only way it could be better is if it was a free update, but $$$ is a thing devs need.

Worth the measely $4-5 absolutely. It's a nice way to jump on and kill some baddies and hope to get some loot. There should be xp gains, that was a huge let down, I noticed no xp gain.

Con: I find you have to get to a really high wave before you'll even have a chance at blue items, so i haven't really gotten much yet in my short time with it.

I'll likely stick to the main game for my looting, but the price is right for this.

Great value for the price. Adds 150 waves of monsters, 3 difficulty settings, and 3 or 4 towers that can be built and upgraded. To access the DLC just select cruicble from the main menu located under the campaign option.

Meh.. It's kewl.. But I honestly think the Dev's could have done something a lot more unique... maybe it's a limitation from the game engine, but ONE ON ONE battles that go deeper and deep through some caves would have been nice, or quests for the item of you choice. we already have HOARDES of monsters to fight. I was bored after 15 mins... I don't regret the DLC because I love the game and want to support Crate, but the DLC it's just Meh...

For the cost, the Crucible adds another great way to spend your time in Grim Dawn.

I'd say that if you enjoy the base game, the "arcadey" Horde Mode on offer here is a great diversion and opportunity at some loot. It's actually quite perfect if you're feeling a bit worn from running the story multiple times, but would still like to engage in some combat for rewards without needing to go on any fetch quests.

Verdict:
A great add on at a fair price to a great game. Thumbs Up.

I wanted endless mobs. I got endless mobs. 11/10 best game development company I've come across yet.

Also the replayability of this mode is crazy fun with friends.

Lokarr is a troll, you'll always be too late to participate in his crucible!

But, well worth it for this DLC, I'm enjoying it very much... just have friends ready in the crucible!
Also, make sure you use your mini map, some of the enemies will not path to you (mostly ranged enemies) and you may be better off using your mini-map to go hunt them down.

And if you need a another guy to crucible with add me to friends!

Later.

(Edit: I think they fixed Lokarr's trolling!)

Simple yet effective DLC for those who have played through the game a few times. It's a good chance to pick up some good loot and earn some iron.

An excellent addition to Grim Dawn.

The four arenas provide varying layouts to challenge (or benefit) different builds, the included mechanics (e.g., fortifications, time-based multipliers, mutations) reads like a whose-who of "fun, continually enjoyable survival mechanics", and the well-balanced difficulty scaling makes cashing in vs. continuing feel like a genuinely meaningful chose.

Behind the scenes: the decision to keep Crucible as its own game mode (versus integrating with the main campaign) is appreciated, as it prevents issues with compatibility when partying re: people who own the DLC vs. don't own the DLC.

Verdict: definitely worth the price of admission. A must-have for any Grim Dawn fans looking for an additional challenge.

This DLC, as others have indicated, is another way to experience all the gameplay layers within Grim Dawn in a different setting. Instead of roaming over an extended map fighting segments of enemies scattered around, a few arenas are presented which throw hordes of mobs -- in all shapes, colors, and tiers of difficulty -- at you, with various customizable aspects. There are some tower-defense inspired elements available, which add yet another way to interface with GD's take on the ARPG genre.

It is certainly worth $5.
