Aside from the utter nonsense that is uplay, I just didn't find this enjoyable. It looks pretty, but lacks that magic "I'll finish now, right after I do X" like in Civ, Sim City, or Cities.

It all feels a bit mediocre, a bit weak. Add to that the horrors of UPlay and it's not a good recommendation.

The Anno series games are deep and satisfying if you enjoy open world city/economic/civilization simulators. Anno 2070 is no exception. I would give this game a 9 if I were able to play it with any consistency. This really would be an excellent game, but technical issues render it a complete waste of $50. I will not buy another Ubi game, which makes me sad because they have several good titles.

This is a serie that has always managed to improve (I haven't played the last Anno though, so that might have changed) and propose a more refined gameplay in each interaction.

This one offers two main factions and a "support" one that offer different enough gameplay to keep you entertained for hundred of hours.

My only complain is that I had to install an Android app on my phone to remember what's the best production chain for each item. It's a shame that this kind of information is not present in the ingame help.

Although Ubisoft and its stupid DRM tried hard to ruin the game experience (like Ark buffs not working offline. LOL), this is a great "isles management" game. Must have for every town builder fan.

Sadly just not a particularly interesting or engaging game. Real shame as I loved the older games in the Anno series. I think the setting makes supply trains too simplistic and the whole thing feels procedural and uninspiring. 4/10

A complex citybuilder/strategy/resourceplanning game. You can fight other people, but the main part of the game is about planning your cities and resources, couse without population or resources you wont get very far. Its suprisingly relaxing exept if everything is going down the drain. This is a slow paced game, you dont just rush through it.

If you like planning your citybuilding and resource chains...... your going to love this one!.

If you however like fastpaced games with require little planning or thought.... avoid this game at all cost!.

I happen to like planning so im one of the people who loves it. And i would recommend it strongly to anyone who is like me.

Edit: Also playing this game with the steam controller works nicely.

While there may be much room for improvement in the game (in terms of replayability and content), its quite intense in multiplayer and can provide huge amounts of hours of fun. My favorite is Domination mode, where you have to outplay opponents in scenarios without having to be online in the same time as your opponents. This is where I spent the majority of my game-time, as it is a level playing field and a great way to get friends to team up against others and put together a strategy to win (as its not just the scenarios itself you have to play well, but also the Domination Map that connects the scenarios.

Uplay.. Pretty much means you can't play as you wish. Why on earth do they insist on using this rubbish and broken system!

Anno 2070 - Good fun if you like resource management and city building

The game is really really fun. I absolutely love it. But... you guessed it... Uplay. I'm one of the lucky few that's actually able to play the game. Still, I encounter "your account doesn't have this game" error, every one of third time I launch the game. It's total chance that I'm still able to play tbh. Even EA does a better job when it comes to their Steam clone. Any game that involves Uplay is a must avoid.

Besides that, even though I love the enhanced gameplay aspects, the 1404 aspects fitted the Anno concept better. If you're a newcomer to the series, I recommend Dawn of Discovery / Anno 1404 (US/EU name difference, same game). If you played Anno before, you'll also love this one. (If you decide to take up the gamble, and beat the odds of "serial is invalid")

I have this game. I LOVE this game.

However, I cannot rate this positive at all.

UPlay may be a joke, but it is a sufferable joke. The real problem is much scarier than that.

----------
SolidShield.
----------

What is SolidShield?

SolidShield is a software DRM engine that was built for corporate applications, NOT computer games. In the business world, people only upgrade computers once every few years. By the time they upgrade a couple of times, the software is obsolete and has been superseded by a later version.

Many gamers are completely different. A lot of us format our machines at least once a year, sometimes more often than that. A lot of us change our hardware semi-regularly as well, particularly video cards, hard disk drives and memory.

This is a huge problem, you see, because all of these changes change the hardware fingerprint that SolidShield uses to 'protect' its software payload. It's akin to the Windows activation system with the very major difference that it it is extremely hyperactive, and very intrusive.

According to Ubisoft, who has said in the past that the PC gaming market is terrible, we are never allowed to change our hardware configurations. If we do, we are obligated to buy a new copy.

Ubisoft says piracy has caused them to require this ridiculous DRM system, which isn't suitable for games at all.

I counter that the existence of SolidShield in this product is causing people to prefer pirating this game to buying it. After all, if you pirate it, you'll actually be able to install it when you feel like playing it in two years' time.

I've never before seen a company that shows such a disdain for its customers. If it were up to me, I'd remove ALL DRM from Anno 2070, and give it away for free (or a lot less than its $60 price tag) as an apology to all of us for having to put up with this travesty.

Until TAGES SolidShield is COMPLETELY REMOVED from this product, I cannot see how anyone could possibly rate it positively.

Now, before I begin, I want to say that I applaud the studio who wrote this, this is one of the best games I've ever played. HOWEVER, I will never buy another game using Uplay. After playing this game for about a year I finally bought the expansion I was so excited about. Well, that was the biggest mistake I've ever made. Deep Ocean introduces an autopatcher proxy bug which I cannot fix without going out to some sketchy link on MediaFire to get a FUNCTIONAL autopatcher. That is, unless I go in and download the game through Uplay. Without the patch the game is registered as "Game modification detected" and has no connection to my login and there is no text on any of the menus, unplayable. Supposedly there has been a fix out there for Uplay-only users but I don't have the time or bandwidth to redownload the entire game. I just want to play the freaking thing.

Please go back to fingering your butt Ubisoft, it's all you ever do.
