Breaking News: Anno 2070 Trading Cards discovered in time capsule from the future!

S.A.A.T. scientists have been left scratching their heads after the unearthing of a mysterious object at a Global Trust mining site near Jorgensen Plateau.

The discovered metal capsule is emblazoned with an image of the Moon and the number “2205” - prompting speculation about its origin “from the future”, to quote Dr. Wallace Breen, administrator of the operation. Inside, a set of impressive paintings was found, depicting everyday life scenes and vehicles of the year 2070.

Message and purpose of this baffling find remain a mystery so far. We contacted S.A.A.T. director Dr. Salman Devi for comment and invite our readers to enjoy reproductions of these mysterious pictures we have prepared as Anno 2070 Trading Cards.

Wow! This is waaaay better than I expected.
First of all, after reading other reviews I was expecting problems with the DRM to get it to run. Although the set-up process was more than I was expecting (and made use of a smart-phone an absolute must just to authenticate the game), once I was past that I've had no problems whatsoever. With it linked to my Steam account it self-authenticates at start-up, nice and easy.

What about the game?
If you are looking for a quick fix, some action packed, or in depth military strategy - go elsewhere! This isn't one of those games.
However, if you want an immersive, atmospheric, detailed, and very deep strategy game - then this is well worth checking out. (I managed to pick up the complete pack in a Steam sale - great value for the money)
Yes, it is a city building and management game (dont yawn), but it has you feeling like your entire civilisation is hanging by a thread, and that one false move could bring the whole thing crashing down.
The whole time you are trying to balance income and expenditure, resource production (some of which are limited), manufacture, polution levels, energy requirements, defence, transport, research, while keping your population happy with specific foods, drinks, activities and entertainment, and all in the restricted space available. Sometimes building one building too many (or too few) can upset the balance.
Did I mention research? I can't remember the last time I saw a game with such a good representation of science and research. It blew me away the first time I figured out how the research system works. And there is so much of it too!

To be honest, I had avoided the Anno series before I bought this last week. I just wasn't interested, it all looked too peaceful and easy. I am much more than pleasantly suprised at how much this game has me hooked!

If you enjoy city-building games in the genre of Caesar and Pharaoh, then you'll probably like this game as well. Here are some of the pros and cons I've run into at this point.

Pros; The graphics are nice. I never ran past medium but the game played smoothly and the effects like wakes for your boats were great. There is also a fair variety of building styles and aesthetic differences between factions. The single-player missions (including DLC) were enjoyable and occupied a few weeks for me. The longest mission was about 72 game hours for me (Power Games). The economy is fairly diverse and complex along the lines of the games I mentioned above.

Cons: The help in-game is minimal. There were many, many things I googled in the first several games. Ex: What's a harbour area? Why do the ai keep trading below my mentioned stock amount? How do I rotate my buildings? Etc. For those who might be wondering, the answers are: 1) You need a port authority on every 'secondary' beach, 2) There's two minimum stock levels, one for your trade ships and one for ai and 3) Middle mouse button or scroll wheel press.

The other main con I ran into is that the ai does not play by the rules the player does. This is common in many games, but utterly decimating an opponent down to a single depot is nowhere close to beating them in this game. A single depot is enough for them to rebuild their entire economy in a matter of minutes. So, if you're planning on beating an ai, kill every last depot on an island, they have no real economy to damage nor does taking out power structures work like it would against a human. The only rule they do play by is ZOC which is why killing all depots works.

Overall: If you enjoyed Caesar/Pharaoh or other city-buidling games, this game could be an interesting addition to your repertoire, but be prepared to Google frequently to make up for the lack of in-game help/detail and crush your opponents to the last building. :)

Don't get me wrong; Anno 2070 is an amazing game, and I've loved every hour I've put into it. But UPlay has made it completely unplayable. IF you could actually play the game, this review would be as positive as they come. But this is the third not-working key Ubisoft has sent me to try to make their game even so much as play, and I don't want anyone else to fall into the trap that is their "customer service".

Bought this game a year or two ago, while its a fun game it runs into some Ubisoft issues from what I know.
My key is inactive like so many others by the looks, making it impossible to play the game.
End of story is don't risk it.

I played about 43 hours of this game a year or two ago. Then today I felt nostalgic and wanted to play it again because I was feeling a bit city builder ish. I go through the install process then the Ubisoft login appears. I don't remember my PW or username; I'm sure I can just find it by doing a forget yada yada but I am already logged in on Steam, why do I need a Ubisoft account again? I don't recommend this game based on the sheer stupidity of Ubisoft's absolute need for DRM.

Bought game in Summer Sale (July) 2016. Game installed but would not let me play. Ran in background and chewed through play time. Writing this review just shy of my 120 minutes of trying to get it to run, and then getting refund. Tis a shame: seemed like such a sweet deal...

I love the game (concept of it).

(spoiler ahead!)
Pirate it if you can, because DRM is cancer; its even worse its a desease which laughs at you, when you play.
So back to the topic did I mention that: "The Ubisoft ♥♥♥♥ is really annoying."?

I have setteled to just watch youtubers how they play instead of me, I've seen countles of youtube content about this game. just watch and eat popcorn.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

DRM is a blight to the industry and all I hear from the devs or publishers is all the whining about pirates stealing the game (which is all propaganda) and I'm NOT sorry to say that any game that uses DRM pretty much won't get a sell out of me (excluding this one, of course). I tried to give drm a try, you know give the dev/pub a shot but it is too ridiculous. As a steam client I should not have to deal with this. The Whole selling point of steam is to put all your games in a convenient library only to have to agree AND sign in elsewhere and pass those hurddles... ugh. PASS! And now unfortunately this game just sits in my library and does nothing. Well, actually thats not true... it stands as a reminder to never buy anything from this dev/ publisher again. Because you know, there is always another dev or publisher to take their place.

Graphics - 8/10

Story - 9/10

Gameplay - 9/10

subtract 10 for DRM

Final Score - 0/10

With regards to the negative comments, I have to say that as of the posting of this review, I have not experienced any flaws on behalf of either side (Valve or Ubisoft) in terms of both the game itself, or 3rd party sites (like Uplay). The game itself is a lot of fun to play, and well optimized for PC systems. The graphic qualities and option of both continous free-play and linear story grasp my attention in a very positive manner. Therefore I highly recommend this game. I hope this review was of any help to the fellow gaming enthusiast looking into buying this game for themselves.

The reviews are NOT over-sensationalizing uPlay; it's the most needlessly complicated registration system out there that can prevent you from ever playing the game. I should know because I just got off the phone with Ubisoft customer support after being locked out of an account I tried to create. Not only does your account get banned, but you IP address will get banned so that you can't play the game, cannot log into your account for support or cannot log-in to ubisoft for chat help or even see their 'help' section. I had to browse through steam forums to find a local number to call because the 888 (toll free) number I found on the forum redirects you to the support website (which doesn't work unless you log in.) It just says that 'You broke the internet.' Not very funny, Ubisoft.

I had a u-play account, but I wasn't sure what password I used. Not only that, but I wasn't sure which of my emails I used. After my third attempt at the combo, everything became banned for a minimum of 2 hours to an alleged max of 24 hours. So don't plan anything around playing a game from ubiSoft.

This is the first time I ever had to leave a review for a game I haven't had a chance to play. The antiquated system and poor planning that this company uses to prevent account phishing and pirating is helping no one - not the consumers and NOT the company. It's alienating gamers and turning people off from playing their games. Read through other comments about U PLAY and please be advised that these are not just highly-dramatized gripes. People legitimately cannot get access through U Play. The customer support cannot unlock your account, help you register your new game or even tell you how long it will take before you are able to log in. And try to log in again too soon... BAM, block timer reset.

0 stars out of 100.

So yeah, my game doesn't work...... okay then. WTF Ubisoft? Please just end this U-Play non sense. NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE LIKES IT. I have not seen one single positive comment on U-Play in my life. Even Donald Trump gets ♥♥♥♥ing positive comments. I'm not going to even attempt to get a new key as the reviews are littered with people saying they don't work. Just removed the new "mixed review" Anno from my cart too. God I tell myself every SINGLE time I buy a Ubisoft game never again yet I give them one more chance. I swear I'm so done with Ubisoft's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t.
