This game was OKAY, its not the best game but great for killing time. That is until ubisoft made the announcement that some of their games would be unplayable while they moved servers. Only problem is that was two years ago and the game is still unplayable. Do not purchase this game, it is litterally a waste of money.

HAWX 2 is a great game, however I'm hesistant to recommend it due to all the problems I've had just getting it to work. As a third party game (developed by Ubisoft), HAWX 2 required UPlay to run. I have never had more problems from any one single game launcher. Their servers seem to constantly experience downtime, making even just the product activation impossible.
Bottom line: great game, horrible developer. I will never buy from Ubisoft again.

Okay... Hawx 2... i remenber i was thinking of buying this game since i got my eyes on it,because it looked similiar to Ace combat, and at the Time it was the only game that followed that on this aspect, and as i had already Hawx1 that was an Good game for me,i was willing to give it a shot.

So,is this a good game or not?! ern... yeah... in some aspects.

First let's focus on the History:

Blah Blah Blah of every single war game... Russians getting betrayed and a coup d'etat happens... with a bit of Middle eastern terrorists in between... so NO, The History is definitivelly a Con to this game. The creators could do Much... Much... MUCH MORE with the history. i'm tired of seeing Russia as only the Bad Guy in every single game... and i think you all know that i LOVE the Sukhoi jets... so,kill them makes me Very, very, very sad. it is a Step Backwards in my opnion, because i liked the history of HAWX 1, the Antares Plot and Everything... it made me feel that taste of Corporate wars i didn't in quite some time(ACE 3 JP)... but then,UBISOT and Tom Clancy Slap this Generic History in my face, that i've seen a million times... for me, a good Arcade Flight simulator has to have an original history. and this Fails in every level. the only good thing is that i got to fly with the Russian Pilot... for a total of 3 Missions... and only in one i could use a SU-27... Shame on you Ubisoft.

Okay... i ranted too much... History... History... but what about the Gameplay?! is it as good as Hawx 1 or the Ace series?!
On this aspect i'm glad to say that YES. in every aspect the Gameplay has evolved. I can now actually control my plane the way i always wanted... even stalling strategically without the need of that annoying OFF System, and even trough it exists, it is now Completelly Optional. i Finished the game without using it,and this control beign optional is Better for it. you can now land and take off on a dime, what i thougt should be a default since Hawx 1,but it is a Nice Addition, and it made the game for the best. The Weapons have more realistic Loadsets,so you might want to make sure that every shot counts,or you will see yourself without missiles and relying on the Machinegun to take that fast ennemies... not a pretty sight i must say... but you can land strategically to rearm and repair your plane, what is a good add (it even made me remind of Ace 4 and Assault horizon as i land in the middle of the battle) but this landing system needs polish... because some times i'm sure i fully stoped my plane, but the Idiots on the Ground Crew don't come to rearm and Refuel me,while i'm beign Murdered from above. so Ubisoft might still need to pack this up. but i got to mention as a ♥♥♥♥ up at release.

Okay... Music?! Generic Battle themes repeated over...and over... and over... and over again... so don't expect project aces sond quality... you'll not find any memorable music... hell... sometimes i've put my own tracks on the game.

and of course the AC130 and Drone/Glide Missions... meh... But it's there, and adds to the game.

My final Veredict: 7.5/10
if you looking for a game that looks like Ace combat,Give it a try... but be warned of what i've said to you.

Be ready to put your pilot helmet on, for you are about to go on a long ride, at least that's the hope. While appearing to be a detailed flight simulator/combat game, Hawx 2 fails miserably at reaching that target. It become apparent quite quickly that Hawx 2 is simply put an arcade shoot em' up with planes, and that's unfortunate.

At first glance, Hawx 2 is quite enjoyable. As the player you are given the chance to unlock several cool planes and fly over a vast amount of different terrains. But this is also the fallpoint of Hawx 2. Every plane will feel almost exactly the same with some minor adjustments in speed and manuverability. The terrains and environments themselves, while pleasing to look at, really offer no uniqueness. Deserts have no sand storms, the arctic north offers no turbulence, and the list goes on. Planes are also unrealistically handled, each having 60 missiles to take down enemy planes. In fact, the game doesn't favor tactics or strategy, but going head in and shooting up your enemies with your 60 missiles and unlimited gun ammo.

If you think story may be the game's redeemer, think again. The story is nothing short of uninteresting and boring, and if the game is trying to make you feel attached to any character, it does a pretty poor job at doing that. Let it just be said that this game, while a sequel, offers little to nothing in the story department. The missions are also repetitive, telling you to shoot x amount of planes, bombing some tanks, and then shooting another x amount of planes.

The game's biggest pitfall is it's horrible online functionality. It would perhaps be fun to play the game with a couple of friends if the game actually worked online. But server failure and matchmaking are just commonalities with this game. It doesn't help when the game pretends it cannot find your friends.

What's left is but an empty carcass marketed to be an action simulator flight game when it completely misses the mark. The game is definitively not a simulator, and the flight aspect is simply not detailed enough to make it wortwhile. Unless you just love shooting at endless streams of planes, you should do yourself the favor and stay away from this title.

Ubisoft closed down the servers for this game.
You have to be connected to the server in order to play story mode.
Don't waste your money. This game is a trap.

This game can be fun if you're really into flight combat sims but the controls suck and you need to download UPlay and make a new UPlay account to play. You can't run it directly from steam either.

The plane controls for Battlefield 3 was better than this

When you come from an aviation background, this game is a huge upset. The game does not bring that realistic cockpit, fighter style or stores that the jets really are capable of doing. I can understand it is a game, but come on, when can a fighter jet carry a million bombs on it? Make the game more on the real side and actually give a respectful cockpit view and get rid of that bad display you get when you are flying around. Also with a joystick the game is unplayable because you cant adjust your throttles really at all. The flight mechanics are very unrealistic and the game is just not there. I would recommend the Suber bug from VRS Simulations on FSX. That software is very spot on to the real thing. The graphics are whatever mods you have set to your computer and what your gpu can handle.

Bring a gamepad and a six pack. This isn't Falcon 3.0 or Janes; actual piloting skills will quickly become bored.

I can't believe I forgot about this garbage. Now, HAWX 1 was a standard flying game. I think even in my review for HAWX 1 I mentioned it was exactly the same as the Ace Combat game I got back in 2001. Anyway, I briefly mentioned HAWX 2.

HAWX 2 is worse than HAWX 1. It has a shorter story mode, worse story (How is that even possible?!), and no changes in gameplay. The sound effects are better, but that's it.

Go get the other HAWX

This game sucks! Took 3 hours to download due to having to download the game as well as an Ubisoft online gaming client called uPlay. Upon launching the game, all is well. But when you try to enter solo mode, you are greeted with a message stating that you are unable to connect to the server... Why would I need to connect to the server for a solo campaign?....

Then when I close the game and try to relaunch, it states that the game is already running (though I've closed it). Then an error occurs and shuts the game down, preventing the launch...

Save you money and don't buy Ubisoft games on PC.... Ubisoft, I was a big fan in the past, but you've completely ♥♥♥♥ed up with stunts like this... I will no longer put up with the BS you require of us in order to play your games...

Compared to the original HAWX 1, much was left out and there are way too many cut scenes. You can’t pick your plane or ordnance load. HAWX 1 was MUCH better in every sense.

The fact that you cannot change your plane during the first play-through is just stupid and frustrating. Not being able to change the plane load-out until you gain xp with that plane is also stupid. There is some mission variety like the UAV missions and the bombing run from your plane in auto-pilot mode. These missions aren't the strong suite of HAWX 2 and while I commend the developers to add new mission types, these were mostly unnecessary.

+Graphically improved from HAWX1 (to be expected though...DX11!).
+Mission variety (UAV tracking and C130 gunning i.e.).
+Aerial combat is still fun and engaging.
+Great looking planes.

-Requires Uplay.
-Can't even choose your plane and ordnance before each mission unlike HAWX 1 (huge fail here).
-Poor voice acting and same music as HAWX 1.
-Bad story.
-No ERS mode aside from landing.
-Bad porting.
-Controls are very awkward to master on Keyboard+Mouse (it is slightly improved on Xbox 360 gamepad though).
-Enemy A.I. is uneven.
-Still has bad textures close to ground.
-Playtime of HAWX 2 is much shorter than HAWX 1.

I got this game quite cheap and feel ripped off. I feel like developers did not even try to improve on the first game. If you want to enjoy the HAWX universe, just play the first one. So basically, I do not recommend this game! Play something else!

4.0 / 10
