“A monster of a sequel.”
90/100 – Game Informer

About This Game

In Dead Space™ 2, you join Isaac Clarke, the Systems Engineer from Dead Space, as he wakes up three years after the horrific events on the USG Ishimura. The Ishimura was a Planetcracker-class starship besieged by grotesque reanimations of its dead crew, known as “Necromorphs.”

After unearthing a strange artifact known as the Marker, Isaac finds himself on the Sprawl, a giant space station in orbit around Saturn. Unable to remember how he got here and plagued with demented visions of his dead girlfriend Nicole, he must survive another nightmarish outbreak of Necromorphs as he fights his way towards an answer he hopes will end all the chaos.

Key Features:

  • Tear through space with full 360 degree movement.
  • Wield a set of devastating tools to bring the terror to space. Impale Necromorphs into the walls with the Javelin, use improved telekinesis to turn limbs into deadly weapons, plant powerful dismembering trip mines, or create a hull-breach to suck a group of monsters out into space.
  • Fire up Isaac’s suit boosters to rocket around in zero gravity like never before. Explore the depths of the Sprawl and encounter new weightless combat and physics-based puzzles with full 360⁰ movement.

This game has absolutely no replay value whatsoever. Don't get it because you'll probably only play it through once.

This game is a fantastic followup to the original Dead Space. While many will call the original Dead Space little more than "Resident Evil 4 in space" (and I'm inclined to agree with them), Dead Space 2 manages to branch out into psychological horror and keep the tension high. Yeah, there are still jump scares, but the atmosphere overall has been cranked up to 11 and the shootouts are even more frenzied.

I don't know how they did it, but they managed to make it work both on the action and the horror front.

Dead Space is a game where you have story and action in one plays.Story is not big of a part in Dead Space 2 but the atmosphere of the game keeps you going. It is one of those game that you are scared to play but you want to finish it.
Can't wait for Dead Space 4.

Dead Space 2 offers the same doggedly linear levels and repetitive but engaging combat as the original, while adding a dusting of Very Serious psychodrama that may be, in both concept and execution, the least insightful portrait of grief in narrative fiction history. Neither its good ideas or its bad ones are original; it plays it safe all the way, for a game that is super polished but doesn't leave much of an impression. I'm not really mad at this game, mostly because it's nice and short and I got it on sale. So long, Dead Space 2. You were 10-ish hours of my life I will neither miss nor regret.

Best game ever!!
I've played Dead Space 3 and loved it and I really wanted to play this and the Dead Space and now I have both!
This is not recommended for players under 18 (well I still play it lol).
Blood everywhere, Scary monsters, great story and many other good things for a horror game.
It also has multiplayer so if you get bored from the campaign (after 100 hours :D) you can play the multiplayer and have more fun after that you can play the 2 other Dead Space games .

10/10 and I will finish Dead Space 1 soon after this ;D

I'll keep my review brief.

I know it's late into the game's release to really write a review, but I feel like writing it may give whoever reads it a little more insight into the game if you're someone who decided to play it as late as I did. It's never too late to start, right?

Either way, in Dead Space 2, you play as DS1's protagonist, Isaac Clark, three years down the line from the previous game. Suffering with a rare form of dementia, unknowing to where he is, and continuously haunted by his dead girlfriend and the events of the Ishamura, Isaac is forced to pick up the guns and the classical suit of armor once again and fight for his life, but this time, for answers.

You, as Isaac, must take whatever lead you get to piece together your now shattered mind, and most of all, find out exactly what's causing your mind to be so broken in the first place.

--

For gameplay, it plays very nice, and I have to say I enjoyed how they've made the Stasis actually have a proper use for enemies rather than just puzzles. I played the whole of the first Dead Space with hardly having to use Stasis other than when it was compulsory for progression - In the intro mission in the game showed off what you could now do with the Telekenisis, too, which was something in the first game that had very little use as well.

Enemies are more brutal, but at the same time, more annoying - I loved the feel of Dead Space 1, even more so the way it made your heart pump whenever you had more than a couple of necromorphs coming at you - In this game, however, the enemies sometimes became a bit of a bore, or a chore to deal with. That was something I never personally experienced with the first game.

I felt that a lot of the timing for some of the enemies was wrong, and at points, it felt like they were just thrown in there for the sake of giving the player something to do. With large clusters of enemies, your stasis becomes increasingly critical, but even then, if you're someone like me who doesn't sink power nodes into upgrading the stasis ability, you can find yourself in a tough spot, where all the enemies are taking cheap-shots one after the other, making it impossible to have full health for more than 30 seconds in the game.

THe collectibles in this game were sometimes hidden in ridiculous locations, but then again, they're collectibles for a reason. I don't think it's entirely fair that they decided to have it so that power nodes were floating in space, tucked away behind junk in zero-gravity, across a gap that required TK to reach, etc, etc. But I guess that they can't make things too easy.

Anyone who's played this will hopefully agree with me on this one: The store system is god-awful. At the start of the game I was baffled to find that the worst suit I could choose from (based on armor and inventory space), cost 1000 credits, whereas every other suits (non-vanilla versions, 15 inventory slots, 15% armor, certain buffs) cost absolutely nothing to get. Same for the weapons that weren't vanilla - Given, I didn't upgrade any of the weapons until I had the default schematic, but honestly, I feel that with the store system they tried far too hard to make something better, but in the end made something much worse.

Navigation of the store system felt clustered and frustrating, and trying to find all the default models of weapons among the non-defualt, modified ones, was just an effort that you shouldn't have to make. In my opinion they had the store system perfect in the original game, so this factor left me disappointed.

Also, speaking of the suit - What the hell, guys? Why get rid of the classic? I know it takes place a few years down the line, but come on, at least return the 'find the suit level schematics and get something that looks way more kickass than what you've got now' system - I LOVED that. Don't get me wrong, the Elite Suit looked very nice, but the others were quite mediocre if you ask me.

The weapons - I liked the new choice, and choosing the Seeker Rifle over some of the old classics wasn't hard to do. The Plasma Cutter is also very powerful at the start in comparison to the first game, which was definitely a nice surprise.

The story was pretty good, too - I felt there was a high sense of mystery within it, which was great. Not knowing anything and gradually piecing things together via text and voice logs was something that the first game did well at; although it didn't feel as frightening in this one, it was still good. I also noticed there was a lack of audio files in comparison to the first game? On the contrary of that, though, some of them legitimately had me shaken when I listened to them, so the fewer amount was made up for by that factor right there.

I think to understand the story, you HAVE to play the first one, otherwise Isaac's situation, and the continuous appearances of a certain character, do not make much sense.

TO summarize my opinion of the game, it was good overall, but if you're looking for something similar to the classic Dead Space, I'm willing to bet that 9/10 of you won't get that. DS2 was a game that definitely won a spot in my favorite survival horrors, but is nowhere near to how legendary the original was. I loved Dead Space 1, and some of the features I found in this game left me feeling slightly disappointed.

Some parts were spot-on, others felt like they were slightly rushed, and some parts felt like the developers tried far too hard to make improvements where improvements weren't necessarily needed. Like they say - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Step 1: Crawl into the dark machine.
Step 2: The screws go tight all around.
Step 3: Cross your heart and hope to die. Stick a needle in your eye.

Dead Space 2 is one of the most incredible gaming experiences of my lifetime. It builds on everything the original Dead Space accomplished. But what really causes this game to shine over many others is its narrative. It's deep, thought inducing, and genuinely compelling. Issac is a fully realized character. You're doing yourself a disservice not diving into this game.

In my mind this is my favorite game in the series. Dead Space 2 for the pc feels a lot more polished than Dead Space it fixed a lot of issues with pc version being the gameplay. Dead Space 2 is a lot more scarer and a lot more enjoyable it reminds me of Half Life 2 where you could throw the sawblades at the zombies from the Ravenholm, but it takes a lot of great elements away and uses it to make you feel a little bit more exposed when you don't have ammo for any weapon. Instead you have a spear to take on a hoard of alien creatures. Between the gameplay and the none stop action through out it's a really fun and scary something EA actually got something correct. Would highly recommend it especially if you played the first game since Dead Space 2 goes back the first game in a truly fun experience 8/10

for me its a high 8, maybe a 9 out of 10. What irks me sometimes is how often items fall into some crevice or something that you can't tk or see. Also, if you try to bring along using tk any kind of impalement weapons, throwable objects, etc ..they just vanish after some time. I had like 10 mops ready to clean house, and when i turn my back they're gone :(

Otherwise, Great atmosphere. Like the storyline, solid sequel to DS1. A great game.
