Stronghold 3 Gold Patch 1.12

Battering Rams are no longer able to climb walls and buildings.
Knights will no longer summon horses if they are situated on a wall or building, or are within a tunnel and cannot mount there. This fixes several cases where a horse could become permanently stuck right away.
Instead of always getting the nearest horse, the nearest horse that can path find to the knight is selected instead.
Knights and horses will now cancel mounting while the horse is running to the knight if they encounter any problems. The horse will become immediately available for another knight or will attempt to walk home.
If you have any saved game when horses were stuck, the mounting will be cancelled.
Wall enhancements such as Hoardings, Braziers, and Burning Logs will no longer come detached from walls when created in the Map Editor.
Issues where Brazier flames and light sources could become offset from the brazier base upon load are now fixed.
Towers and walls will no longer become disconnected ( bug which closes the paths from the wall to the top of the towers ) after a map is edited more than once. For the existing maps with this issue, it is necessary to replace existing towers and walls.
Small parts of walls will no longer linger after they have been destroyed.

Can't recommend this game.
It takes hours to get it finally starting and then the bug party just keeps on going.
If you want to play Stronghold... dont "play" this one, take 1 or 2.

Why did you do it Firefly? One of my FAVORITE GAMES... It's good, but there are so many things that need worked, on, population caps, building limits, the fact the further you go from the castle, the more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ the hovels become. That causes so many problems in my opinion, so please. Take advice, and just discontinue or FIX THE GAME.

I am a big fan of Stronghold. I remember playing the original Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader when i was like 7 or 8 years old. That gave me infinite fun and even now when i lauch the game it brings out my inner child. Just loved them. But this is not Stronghold i used to know anymore.

Building walls was so cool in Stronghold Crusader and it was just amazing all kinds of labyrinths and ♥♥♥♥ i built. Here it just feels like a burden, also it takes ages to even get enough stone to build anything cool. And also what is up with these different wall types. I know they had those in Stronghold 2 but they wouldn't get in the way for me there, here you are just forced to utilise them.

Then there is the resources needed for anything. They basically put costs up 500-1000% and that's it. Gather rate is only slighty improved. I was basically forced to fight this for 2 hours, because with such gather rate i can't do ♥♥♥♥. Game is just too slow, and turining it on fast just makes it look weird.

I guess campaign got me a bit interested, but Stronghold 2 makes it much better. Since is pretty much the only feature you will play because they took out SKIRMISH. Like srsly? What? Instead you can play free build, which was in all strongholds now, but now you can call enemies to test out your defenses like somekind of a tower defence game. And a pretty unsatisfying one for the price,

Now the only reason you would buy this game is because you want MP experiance, exept if you are somekind of a Strongold Campaign lover. Multiplayer has very few people on, so you will get used to waiting for hours to get people around you and play. I guess if you want that kind of experiance you could get one from visiting your doctor non-appointed or go deposit the money you were going to spend on this game in a bank.

Game does look nice, but than so does money in your hands.

Do not believe these false reviews, once you play it you will realize how much better the game itself looks compare to the older ones. I still play the old strongholds as well, but they do not compare to this game.

Being a huge fan of the previous games, it saddens me to write this review. This game is a huge dissapointment. It is not nearly as good as the previous ones, it is a shame that it bears the name "Stronghold"... If you want to see this game at its peak, play "Stronghold: Legends" or "Stronghold 2", but not this one. To give you an idea on how terrable this game is, all of the cutscenes are hand drawn with voices talking in the background. Don't waste your money on this one, pay the cheaper price and buy the "Stronghold Collection", that way you actually get the good castle simulators and you save money. I really wish that I saved my money and bought something that is actually good. ):

1/5 Review, strongly suggest buying "Stronghold Collection" instead.

There is "free roam" mode instead of skirmish. There is no opponent, you just play alone or if you want someone to attack you ; you have to activate events on event menu like "send baron's army" or "send king's siege" which turns it to some kind high budget lame tower defence game. I cannot talk about campaing because i have never played any campaing in any stronghold games. They never interest me.

Got this bundled with Stronghold "complete bundle" for -75%.

I'm a huge fan of Stronghold Crusaders 2 played over 140 hours, never played any old stronghold games before.

And tried this game just to see, I liked it immediately. it has like everything from SC2 and even more.

not sure if it worth $50, i got it bundled on sale, so zero regret.

Despite its shoddy release, plagued with bugs, The developers managed to smooth our these issues and produce what I consider a worthy and solid continuation to the 'Stronghold' franchise.
This solid title does the previous much justice, as it carries the same feel as the previous games, albiet with modifications and better engine. I could only complain at their removing certain aspects. The obvious one was skirmish. However, playing it vs a friend, it was somewhat enjoyable. But why take our many aspects of the previous games? This felt like lazy shortcutting by the developer. :(
Anyway, i recommend it if you have a friend to have a few matches with, it can be fun then.

This was a disappointment.

While I was reading reviews of Stronghold 3 I had ideas along the lines of "It can't be that bad" and "If it is anything like stronghold 2 just with higher graphics then I can enjoy this" however I was wrong. I can't put my finger on it but something about the mechanics felt horribly off from the other games.

I won't go into detail as there are far better reviews on this store page which I would end up repeating however I will say that I kept thinking "all these reveiws are exaggerating and it can't be that bad" but it really is that bad.

Have I not reveiwed this stinker yet? Geeze, it was like... two years ago now I played (and beat) it?

Personally, I don't care about the bugs, of which there really arn't THAT many compared to earlier Stronghold titles. The game worked okay for me and I got through the campaign without any real serious issue.

No, where I got upset, where I feel the devs truly betrayed everything that Stronghold stood for, was thinking I was no longer smart enough to build my own castles. That's right, its Stronghold, a castle building sim, in which you don't build castles. On every single player map the castle is already built for you. Oh sure, you can build a wall between two incredibly obvious cliffs to seal off a supposed weak point, but I wanted to build frickin' castles. The first game let you build castles. The first game said "Here's some land. There's a quarry. Choose where to place your stockpile ANYWHERE on the map and, oh, by the way, you're getting attacked in about ten minutes." That's what made Stronghold, Stronghold for me. Sure, they still gave you some castles in Stronghold 1, but they usually destroyed them in the first assault and made you rebuild them, often having to scrap some of the infastructure so you could pull your defenses back to a more practical postion. Stronghold 2 backed off of that, but still allowed for it, and on the missions you were given a castle to start, they were often little more than a ring wall and a single scout tower just to get you through the first attack. Stronghold 3... gives you a full castle on most maps, doesn't want to let you decide where to place defenses (and fights you tooth and nail when you try), and on the rare occasion you don't start with a fully loaded bastion, the places they want you to build are painfully obvious. In short, they've made what once was a good castle building sim into a below average Midieval RTS. For shame.

Throwing salt on the wound is the way they handled the story. The original Stronghold's story was pretty good, and the characters were humorous, colorful, and fun to listen to. Yah, they had dialouge in the first game. Good dialogue. In the first game you were supposed to be afraid of The Wolf. You would panic when he attacked your early castles, and the final two missions against him featured huge battles that saw nearly complete destruction of the castles involved. Comparitively, the Wolf of Stronghold 3 is a has been that should have stayed gone. Unfortunately this reflects on the protagonist as well who, while a capable military leader in the first game, might as well be a court jester in the third. Even the last few battles, where you go up against the Wolf himself, are so toned down it might as well be a sprawling bar fight. In the end, I was actually happy the game ended the way it did, they both deserved it.

TLDR: If you've never played Stronghold, get the first game. It's infinitely better than this turd, and you actually get to build castles.

many have said it... no AI-Skrimish... no real castle-building... and the stories of the 2 main campaigns are extremely close to the campaigns of stronghold 2. Don't buy it. Buy the SH 1 or 2. Stronghold 1 and Crusader are still 2 of my alltime fav games... too bad they failed this one.

Right, Stronghold 3, definitely a major let down on release and still sucks now. There are still a good amount of bugs, still runs slow, and unless you somehow find someone to play online with you will get about 5 hours of gameplay before never playing again. The game rarely gets updated and when it does its nothing major, maybe a few bug fixes or community made maps. Overall i give it a 6 out of 10

Make sure you observe the steam return policy before you buy this.

Let's be very clear here, the game is broken. It is 98% unplayable. I really really really wish I could have my money back. Tbh it should not even be on Steam. Even after all the patching units still move in the T formation every now and then. The ♥♥♥♥ were the devs thinking anyway? At any price the game is not worth it.
