The BEST total war after Rome 1. Hands down. I put hundreds of hours into this game and Shogun 1, Shogun 2, Rome 1, and Medieval 1, mostly on disk versions before Steam. These games contains my some of my fondest childhood video gaming memories. Medieval 2 in particular was always special to me.

Great fun, I've played hundreds of hours on a disk copy years ago.

Worth it in todays day and age, with more modern games? Probably not. Might need a few mods for graphics and stuff before it's worth playing (2006 graphics are old).

It's fun, I think I got it in a humble bundle or on sale at least.

This is the last great total war. I really hope CA makes a sequel where everything is the same as in this game but it has a graphical upgrade.

Really a fantastic game. Great replay value.

Pros:
Runs smoothly on most computers.
Great economic system.
Awesome battles and detailed units. (for the time)
A large variety of factions and cultures to choose from.
The DLC campaigns are well made and worth it. (in my opinion)
Rarely has frame rate drops. (unless there is a massive battle involving more than 8k entities)

Cons:
The AI frequently bugs out during sieges.
Occasionally crashes at the end of a turn. (DLC campaigns only though)
Lack of depth late game with horde factions just turning up with 10 stacks of cannon elephants. (unfair, in my opinion. lol)
Diplomacy can be a little tricky and slow to develope.
The popes call crusades at the worst times. (lol)

All in all, a great game and one of my all time favorites.

I recommend this game to anyone who loves the Medieval era. In this game you will have to manage your economy as well as satisfying your people's religious needs, and the popes obviously. Managing your relationships with other countries plays a vital role in this game unless you want to end up balls deep in war with powerful factions.
The game is: easy to master, fun, competitive and quite hard for someone who prefers fast-paced games. However just like any other game it has its flaws. Just one actually; Ai pathfinding is clunky and buggy, but besides this minor flaw the game is.........................

50/10 would spam peasants again

This is the first game that introduced me to grand strategy, after Stronghold Crusader and that series. I was recommended it by a friend and was not disappointed whatsoever. This is one of only 3 games on steam (so far) that have gotten onto my 'favorites' list. This is one game that hasn't gotten old yet, a classic that will always hold a place in my heart. Sure, it may be a bit outdated, but it is still a wonderful game. The variety of units and factions is staggering, and it's sheer amount of replayability is staggering. Think about this: 26 factions x 25 maps x 12 settlement types... that's 7800 battles, not including weather, allies, or army variants... The possibilities are nearly endless!

I've been playing Medieval II Total War since it's launch in 2006. It was the first game in the Total War series to introduce texture diversity within the troops of a single unit. It remains one of my favorite strategy games, mainly for it's easy to mod game engine, which sparked many high quality mods such as "The Long Road", "La Guerre de Cent Ans - The Hundred Years War" and "For King or Country: The English Civil War".

i only hope one day we will get a game as good as this one again.

Medieval 2 is one of the most amazing games i have ever played:
It is a prime example of the golden age of videogames when the developers made games with passion, and CARED about making good games... and it really shows. the graphics, the gameplay, the sound, the music, the jokes, the speeches and even the million different traits your characters can have, this game is is my #1 medieval strategy game of all time.

Hey there, I'm gonna assume you're deciding about if you should buy this game. So uh...

Well, here's a quick summary-

1: It's obviously similar to many games made by Creative Assembly.
2: It's somewhat "cheap" compared to other games
3: Better AI than Total War: Rome II (as many others would say)
4: Not split into little DLC peices
5: This game is still active in multiplayer, years after it's release!

My opinion: It is basically Total War: Rome II, but better and it is worth it's price, including the DLC. So if you're thinking about buying this, I will say yes. But this is just my opinion, so you could choose if you would like to buy this or not. Anyways, have a nice day and I hope I've helped you make your decision today!

This game hooked me up for SOOOOO many hours I lost count. I have played more than 500 hours on the physical version. And still come back to it nowadays on steam.
It has some great mods and mod potential.

If you are a Tolkien fan theres Middle Earth Total War MOD which is pretty awesome.
If you want to play vanilla tho it offers pretty good campaigns and the Kingdoms offer a lot more factions diveristy you could ask for... All that for a very low price. Really recomended on the total war Series.

Overral Score 10/10

To start off, you should probably buy this game. I say probably, because $20 is a little pricey, but if its on sale for $10 or under get it! It is a great strategy game with two main modes. The campaign map is like an overall strategy game where you try to conquer the world, and the tactical battles are individual battles where you control an army. Although the graphics are outdated, the strategy in this game is priceless. Played a game as Portugal, and first killed Spain. Then fought and made peace with France, then went south and killed the Moors, then kept going east and killed sicily, kept going and am currently about to kill Egypt. I also conquered Rome from Sicily and returned it to the pope, who became my bestie for all of 2 turns until he died. The next pope hated me, but at the moment I am not excommunicated.

And so,
If you read it through this far you probably should buy the game.
Just do it.

This game is absolutely amazing. The tactics and strategy are extremely simple, making it less difficult. Some factions are obviously ridiculously powerful with more starting regions, better units and technology, but it is still an absolutely amazing game. I've played as the Holy Roman Empire, France, England, Russia, and Spain, and they're all extremely fun and they all deserve a 10/10. Incredible modding capabilities, too. Definitely worth it, especially if you get it on a good sale.

M2tw isn't yet too old to be played, even the base game is good on its own, along with various mods like Stainless steel & Third Age Tw are just adding more the same - epic medieval content. I have also played Rome 2 & NTW on other account, would suggest them too as well. Replayed, with steam now.

This is my first Total War game so I really don't have much background to this series. But as a gamer, all I could say is this game is really enjoyable. Very fun strategy game and a very good start to the series in my opinion. This game definitely convinced me enough to try out more Total War games. What I am trying to say is, you should buy this game.
