"A unique game for the series due to the castle and city mechanics. The campaigns are very fun and the units are very complex and unique for the factions"

Be prepared to lose not only all semblance of productivity in the real world, but if you're Catholic, be prepared to despise the Pope.

Pope launches crusade

All catholic factions join the crusade

Instead of actually marching to Baghdad we just kill each other along the way until there's not even a significant force left to take Baghdad

-Started a Campaign with Scotland, easily taking over northern Europe.
-Decided to invade Poland. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s hold out.
-Being invaded by the alliance of France and Spain.
-Swear that I will one day take over Poland.
-Started a new Campaign as Scotland.
-Once again, easily taking over northern Europe.
-Ally or marry off to all neighbors to make sure I'll have peace for a little while.
-Invade Poland and take over all of its land, except for one province in North Africa.
-Man hunted every possible Polish priest and constantly blew up their religious buildings.
-Pope was angry with Poland's disbelif and excommunicated them from the catholic church.
-Started a crusade against Poland, with the Pope's permission of course.
-Now Poland's last remaining city is surrounded by multiple, fully stacked armies.
-All they have as a defence is a couple of units of Sudanese tribesmen.
-Poland is conquered and the city was slaughtered.

I can finally sleep like a baby.

11/10 would take revenge again.

You're at war with portugal, a kingdom of 4 provinces.

Price of ceasefire? Over 50'000 gold. Portugal thinks it's "Very demanding".
Price of buying 3/4 provinces? 12'000 gold. Portugal thinks it's "Very generous".

This game has stood the test of time. In an age of decline and ruin in strategy gaming, one's mind wanders back to the glory of the past, and that glory is Medieval 2 Total War. Forget for a moment, the horror of poor optimization, leave behind the decadance of overpriced DLC, and remember the greatness of heroic men battling on fields of Medieval Europe. From the rocky crags of Scotland to the sands of Arabia, this game has it all. You ask for unique factions? Medieval 2 has many. Want a good campaign without horrible AI and bad diplomacy? This game delivers. Do you desire frenetic Free-for-all battles? This game has those too.

Now, take your mind back to the present. Total War is not what it once was. Mourn for our dying franchise, for there was greatness once. There once was a light in the civilized world, and this was it, this was our finest hour.

11/10. Master of Total War and High Emperor of Creative Assembly.

A brilliant game.

The only one in the series to enable you to play in Hotseat by PBEM with other players so you can enjoy true multiplayer campaigning.

The pinnacle of the TW series and a solid game with mod enhancement.

Definately has to be one of the best strategy games I have ever played.
First of all, the gameplay offers a massive choice of nations and units each with their own traits. 17 different factions on top of long and short campaigns give a lot of room for different story paths and immense replayability. The mix of battles, diplomacy, family traits and strategy AI create a truly realistic and immersive game that offers an infinate number of choices to your next move, although the turn-based elements often feel oversimplified. It does have a solid real time combat foundation, but the AI is either really good or really bad depending on the difficulty setting. There is no middle ground. If you are new to real time strategy games, this one has a pretty steep learning curve. Even seasoned players may feel overwhelmed.
One campaign can take days, even months of play time. However, sometimes the game can become a bit taxing to less motivated players (not that I'm complaining) and the AI during battles can often glitch. Whilst these glitches are mostly minor, they nevertheless break your immerson in the game and can be quite annoying when your soldiers glitch about instead of doing as they're told. Despite all its weaknesses, Med 2 is still a briliantly crafted game, its strategy mixed in with impressive graphics and cinematic music will keep you wound up in the Medieval age for thousands of hours.

It's one of CA's best (Total War) games. It beats Empire, it beats Napoleon (which was rather a pile of garbage so that wasn't hard) and it beats Shogun2. I still like Medieval 2 better than anything that came after it.

One of the best Total Wars, still great years later! The campaign is very enjoyable, and the unit variety is better than most newer Total Wars! This game still looks pretty good, and most every newer PC can run it at full graphics (even runs on my tablet)!

It's still worth it! :)

This game was amazing at the time it came out. I totally loved it. But I would recommend to play it now, because attempts to bring the rich lore of the Lord of the Rings universe into the video game space have been about as successful as asking a hobbit to cut back to just five meals per day. Struggling under the weight of expectations and movie tie-ins, these games have left those desperate to explore Tolkien's engrossing world disappointed at best (looking at you Shadow of Mordor). It took a devoted team of modders to do what the triple-A titles could not, and the result is the mightily impressive Total War modification - The Third Age.
