About the Game

Kate Walker, a young ambitious lawyer from New York, is handed what seems a fairly straight forward assignment - a quick stopover to handle the sale of an old automaton factory hidden in the alpine valleys, then straight back home to the US.

Little did she imagine when embarking on this task that her life would be turned upside down. On her expedition across Europe, traveling from Western Europe to the far reaches of Eastern Russia, she encounters a host of incredible characters and locations in her attempt to track down Hans, the genius inventor - the final key to unlock the mystery of Syberia. Her voyage across land and time throws all she values into question, while the deal she sets out to sign turns into a pact with destiny.

For those of you point and click adventure fans look no further. Syberia has everything that makes for a great adventure game. The puzzles, though soetimes simple, are engaging, the backgrounds breathtaking and the story is full of discovery and wonder. There are a few cons to mention though. the voice acting, while mostly good, can soetimes fall flat and the speed Kate (the main character) moves around is sluggish which can be very annoying while backtracking. With the negative marks asside, Syberia is a stunning journey and an adventure game that stands its ground next to classics such as MYST and The Longest Journey.

Note: There are a few graphic hiccups when running on windows 7 but nothing game breaking

+ fantastic presentation (for the time it was released), great sound and voice acting
+ one of the most emotional stories you will witness in gaming, the ending might make you cry
+ good puzzles (inventory based mainly) that fit to the story (and that's the most important thing, they don't feel irrelevant as in many point and click games)

- nothing really, i would rate it higher if it supported hd resolutions, since that might keep some people away from the game

Syberia’s writing is–IMO–worthy of a top-notch novel. In terms of quality, the game’s story, characters and atmosphere surpass those of the vast majority of today’s titles. One of the best games I’ve played so far–everything about it is superb. While playing, it often made me think about life and where my priorities are. Also, remember that you can double click to make Kate (the protagonist) run if you feel that her walking is slow.

Syberia features an interesting and compelling storyline created by Benoit Sokel who created one of Europe's top-selling adventure games called Amerzone. He manages to create a believable steampunk-esq world of automatons and clockwork mechanisms against a backdrop of the real world. When this story is combined with the game's utterly beautiful environments and wonderfully haunting music, it has the ability to take you into another world. The animations are also worth a mention being very fluid and life-like. The animators' attention to detail is very clear to see.

I did have a few minor annoyances such as pixel hunting, the voice acting, while being decent enough, wasn't that great all round and the French to English translation wasn't quite 100%, but they are not enough to detract from what is an otherwise excellent point and click adventure.

If you are a fan of point and click adventures then look no further. Syberia is a very fine and tremendously enoyable adventure game.
