Acerca deste jogo

Kate Walker, a young ambitious lawyer from New York, is handed what seems a fairly straight forward assignment - a quick stopover to handle the sale of an old automaton factory hidden in the alpine valleys, then straight back home to the US.

Little did she imagine when embarking on this task that her life would be turned upside down. On her expedition across Europe, traveling from Western Europe to the far reaches of Eastern Russia, she encounters a host of incredible characters and locations in her attempt to track down Hans, the genius inventor - the final key to unlock the mystery of Syberia. Her voyage across land and time throws all she values into question, while the deal she sets out to sign turns into a pact with destiny.

Oh man, this is a really nostalgic game for me.

During my 12th birthday, my aunt came to visit me from Portugal and brought with her a couple of gifts, but one in particular was the 'special' gift for my birthday. At the time I had been bugging the ♥♥♥♥ out of my parents to buy me Battlefield 1942 and I was damn sure that that is what my 'special' gift was.

I could barely sleep the night before knowing that Im going to be playing BF1942. The day comes and when I vehemently tore the wrapping paper apart, Battlefield 1942 was not to be seen. In its place I see 'Syberia'...

What the f*** is this? Syberia?....by Benoit Sokal? ..Is this a book or something?

She told me that she heard I liked computer games so she bought me that before coming to America. I thanked her but deep inside an unearthly rage started to boil. I didn't even play it for a couple days because of how disappointed I was.

It wasn't until I had to stay home from school because of a really bad flu that I installed it and gave it bash.

The story, the animations, graphics, art, and theme instantly grabbed me. The sound design was the first thing I noticed when I became instantly immersed with the pattering of rain on the window pane and the soles of your shoes walking along hardwood floors of the inn.

The puzzles arn't that complex but really solidify the theme of automatons and cogs and gears of machines. I'm currently playing through it again and its such a nostalgia trip which makes it hard to recommend since I already knew what I was getting into. However, I have no problems saying this is my favorite point and click and one of my favorite games of all time.

Make yourself some tea, wrap yourself in a warm blanket and enjoy every moment of this atmospheric masterpiece.

This game is a terrific dose of decent point and click style with a compelling story, good voice acting, and very pretty landscapes.

In its time, the graphics were solid and the gameplay manageable. Nowadays it looks and feels dated. That being said, if you have an opportunity and like point and click adventure games then definitely carve out some time for this one.

This game, unfortunately, falls short in a few key areas. The writing is weak, the characters are not terribly complex, and it is rife with clumsy dialogue. Our hero, Kate Walker, is pushed around by an uncaring boss with unrealistic expectations, a fiancé who is the biggest jerk in the whole world who cares absolutely nothing for the needs of Kate and her own ambitions in life, and a "best friend" who thinks she should just stop all this 'having a job' stuff and get back to being a 'good wife' to Dan the previously mentioned fiancé.

The interactions with these shallow one dimensional characters is punctuated by phone calls in which the writers try to draw out a character arc with Kate that literally has one of them saying, "Wow Kate, you've changed so much in the past few days." Perhaps this passed for decent writing in the past, but nowadays it just seems rough and juvenile as if the writers had no idea how to write a strong female character.

There are moments in which I found myself rooting on Kate as she told off Dan, solved puzzles, and bested the very jerks she had been placed in this world with but all in all I began to dread the phone calls, the interactions and the conversations with other characters. The puzzles were the biggest relief from that.

Unfortunately some of the puzzles suffered from hints that were too vague and ground the game to a standstill without referring to a walkthrough. Thankfully these were few and far between and in general the game had fantastic puzzles that were challenging and intuitive while being fulfilling.

Ultimately, this game does what point and click adventure games do well: provide a story to generate a plot driven reason to solve puzzles. I just wish the story weren't so aggravating, the characters so thin, and the conversations so utterly long winded.

Overall 6/10

Steampunk style point-and-click with really nice graphics (just remember it was made in 2002) and fantastic voice acting (one of best I've ever heard in an adventure game).

Village mysteries, steampunk factories, amazing airships and intricate automatons - all this explored by young New York lawyer, Kate Walker.

"Syberia" has some shortcomings, namely some annoying unskippable animations (like stair or ladder climbing) and it is quite linear, but the story is so great I would definitely recommend it anyway!

AUDIO: 9/10

I could tell you, that this is one of the most beautiful point&click games I have ever played, but I will not. I could tell you that this story is one of those which will haunt you long after you finish the game, but I will not. I am not forcing my oppinion on anyone but if you are a fan of pont and click adventure games, most likely you have played this title... but if you did not... SIT DOWN RIGHT NOW AND START THE GAME. You are in for one of the most memorable rides of this genre. There is a mature story with great storytelling, nice puzzles, and a long trip to... realising someone's dream, which becomes your dream by the time you reach your destination. It's one of the most reccomended game of it's genre
