What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We are looking for input and feedback on our main story and quest design. Our aim is to add more and better content based on player feedback and suggestions.

We welcome ideas for further quest lines or characters, and would encourage our players to join in the discussion which additions would fit the game best.

Although we have tried to hunt down every single bug, we can't be sure they are all dead yet. Because we aren't a big team, we don't have the resources to test every part of the game as thoroughly as we would like. That is why we would also encourage you to report any bug or even anything that might be confusing.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will leave Early Access when we are satisfied with the amount of content.
If we had to make an estimate, it would be no less than a few weeks and no more than a few months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full game will have additional content, which the Early Access players will have helped us decide upon. We will also have fixed any bugs that were found in Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is complete in mechanics, content and function, but we are aiming to expand upon it with the help of player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“If Early Access players' opinion is that the game is underpriced we will consider a higher price for full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“First off, we are looking forward to any and all feedback! No matter if Early Access or fully released.

As stated in our Early Access goals, we are looking to involve the community in creating and deciding which content and also potentially features should be implemented next. If possible, we would like to use some sort of voting system, so each and every voice that wants to participate can be heard.

You will be actively helping to make this game the best it can be! Thank you so very much!”

3030 Deathwar Redux - Update 0.939 - A Real Allrounder

Hi guys,

This week's update is a real allrounder, improving various areas of the game and fixing issues here and there.

We've added new images for the Derelicts floating in space. They look more visually interesting and varied now. Also, Asteroids got a touch up, although this is just a interim step, as we're planning on redoing them completely once we have the time.

Derelict salvaging got a touch up, with more Magazines you can find, some improved images, and changes to some of the loot. We've also made the in-world magazine image match the close-up shown on the top right more closely.

There are various smaller fixes, some requested, some by our own volition. Buoys are now visible on the map, and their HUD icons have been replaced for clarity. As we were at it, we fixed police map markers as well, so they're more easily visible now. Other smaller issues, like the white edges that might occur on upscaled resolutions, have also been fixed. It's possible you might notice some changes in the intro, but one you'll definitely notice are some added visuals to the opening Splash Screen.

As always, here's a full list of changes:

Features / Gameplay

  • Added new derelicts for more variety in Space
  • Modified Look for Asteroids
  • Added more variation and new derelict magazines
  • Made magazine in-world and close-up images match better
  • Added hydrogen fuel cannisters to find on Derelicts
  • Adjusted space backgrounds, for more depth effect
  • Added buoys showing on map (yellow marker)
  • Added extra effects to intro cutscenes
  • Made only non-Ore Asteroids color marked
  • Added descriptive images to Splash Screen

Fixes / Improvements
  • Fixed duplicate ships appearing occasionally
  • Improved blending for Daphice station
  • Replaced HUD images for buoys for clarity
  • Some tutorial timing tweaks
  • Added more information to F1 help screen
  • Fixed invisible (un)docking ships being targeted
  • Fixed some image edges for upscaled resolutions
  • Made police ships' marker more noticeable on map
  • Fixed HUD faction colors, and added Pirate info

This week we had one especially frequent contributor on the forums, so a big Thanks to jpdoulos for some great feedback and suggestions for improvements!

Enjoy the update everyone!

3030 Deathwar Redux - Update 0.938 - Better Derelict and lots of Fixes!

Hey everyone!

This update rounds off the new gameplay we added in last week's huge Derelict Expansion.

We tried to streamline the experience a bit more, making it easier to navigate by letting Falcon turn quicker and move a bit faster. Scanning now shows only the objects that can still be collected, as well as the goods crates, making it a lot more useful. The tutorial should be a bit more helpful, and will now also show up for late-game savegames.

Besides the Derelict work, we finally managed to fix the disappearing Derelicts bug. The bug was really tricky: Every once in a while all the derelicts would delete themselves from the world, never to be seen again. We finally found a way to fix it, by making a dynamic backup and checking if every derelict is where it's supposed to be each frame.

There's a couple smaller fixes and improvements, as in most updates. See the full list for the details:

Features / Gameplay

  • Better Derelict movement, Falcon turns quicker
  • Better Derelict AI behaviour
  • Derelict enemies can now drop loot
  • Made Derelict Scan only show to uncollected objects
  • Made Derelict Scan also point to goods crates
  • Adjusted Derelict tutorial
  • Made Derelict tutorial appear for late-game saves
  • Increased Afterburner speed slightly
  • Added image for Alien Hemstone

Fixes / Improvements
  • Fixed Disappearing Derelicts bug (finally!)
  • Fixed positioning on Question Boxes
  • Flipped Running lights on all ships
  • Improved Derelict crate images
  • Derelict Item text spelling fixes
  • Fixed bug in Kta Fly dialogue
  • Added separate F1 help for onboard Derelicts
  • Added some instruction on adding own music to game
  • Made "No Fuel" warning more noticeable
  • Improvements to Derelict maze walls
  • Fixed some Derelict salvage text not showing
  • Improved Derelict crate placement

Thanks to Naratlos, Amaranth and deeravengertn for your feedback and bug reports!

Enjoy!

“3030 Deathwar Redux looks cool! There’s space combat, adventure gaming, open exploration stuff, a nice soundtrack and some solid pixel art.”
Kotaku

“Overall, 3030 Deathwar Redux is way out of this world. For a pixelated game with a bumpin’ soundtrack, detailed artwork, complex economy mechanics, decent combat system, and a seemingly infinite number of quests to keep you busy, this game is a MUST HAVE for any space adventure lover!”
Brutalgamer

“You can tell I'm really enjoying this! ... This is vastly improved (over the original).”
Scott Manley

About This Game

3030 Deathwar Redux is an Open World 2D Space Adventure with a twist!

A dead body is found by his crew, then his new ship gets impounded by the cops, something is going on... probably related to a missing freighter with a large cargo of gold bars. Now, John Falcon, a freewheeling space pilot, tries to get back on his feet. But where to start?

* Take on some local delivery jobs and get a better ship?
* Downsize to a Jetsuit and go shooting space-junk for quick money?
* Focus on finding the missing gold shipment before the local gangs and salvage teams?
* Go punch that damn mechanic who sold you a stolen ship?
...and what is this mysterious 'Taoist' group you keep hearing about?

Maybe just take a break and go travelling inter-stellar, in an Open World of more than 30 star systems.

Features
* Open world space exploration and frantic combat with afterburners blazing
* Board Stations, visit the bars and talk to an array of space scum
* Ghostly Derelict Ships to find on your Star-Map, spacewalk into, and salvage valuables
* Large variety of fun Jobs and Missions, with exciting Side Quests
* Diverse ships to buy and upgrade for Performance, Defence and Combat
* Get a fuel-scoop and refuel from the corona of a sun without frying yourself!
* Find Pirate Stations & begin a life of crime, attack innocent traders, steal cargo from traffic
* Get a large cargo ship and go Asteroid Mining for metals, or haul Goods between systems
* Hidden wormhole shortcuts, Comets, Unique Stations and other secrets to find
* An intriguing Main Plot Line... and much, much more!

The Redux version adds: an extended adventure, with extra characters and side quests, space races, lots of graphical enhancements, balancing and gameplay changes, a smoother tutorial and tons of other improvements!

Pulsing Though Your Games.

Pros:
  • - Become a Uber driver.
  • - Free roaming in space traveling to different planets
  • - Great little jobs like delivering packages to different places and driving people places for some quick mula. (British way of saying money)
  • - The hidden worm holes are fun to use as they skip a lot of the journey
  • - YouTube safe mode
  • - Love the music when you’re in space shooting asteroid’s and just traveling.
  • - Salvaging is so fun
  • - Your little companion with the side smile
  • - loads of upgrades and ships to buy.
  • - you can make your own story like be a bounty hunter or be an evil person and steal peoples cargo.
  • - Lots of people to talk to and dialog options.
  • - Lots of content for an Early access game.
  • - Even people with slow computers can run this it can run on XP maybe a potato can run this?
    OS: Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10
Processor: Dual Core 2.2GHz or equivalent
    Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: 1 GB NVIDIA / AMD Radeon
    DirectX: Version 9.0c
    Storage: 500 MB available space

Please don’t take these cons so seriously as the Devs may change some of my cons in the future after Early Access Review
Cons:
  • - The controls when salvaging are a bit bad how if there’s a thing you have to shoot you have to press the Down arrow 2 times or Up arrow 2 times to get it in the middle as his usually looking down or up (please allow an option to use mouse)
  • - No Xbox controls would love to sit down on the couch and play this.
  • - It’s hard to see some of the asteroids as there so small to see.
  • - Your starter ship you get after you lose your 1 st ship is well too small to see.
  • - Main menu is very small to see.
  • - More backstory would be nice on all the main characters as im quite intrested in why they wanted to do salavging.

    Conclusion:
This was really a pleasure to play as it has so much content in this game and the devs still want to change more of this game and i wish them good luck and hope this game gets more popular.

So, this game really surprised me with how good it actually is. The graphics style is usually not what im into but i quickly looked past that and it seems to be very fiting now. Sountrack is amazing, dialogue is funny, game mechanics feel very good, and its a good chill game for me but there are multiple playstyles so it can be fast paced if thats how you choose to play. Definately recommend especially if you can get it on sale.

Absolutely wonderful. Escape Velocity style 2D combat, lots of different quests, trading, mining, bounty hunting and so on to do, good single player campaign. A spiritual 2D sequel to Privateer, Freelancer and so on. THIS GAME NEEDS MORE PUBLICITY. I'm amazed this wasn't recommended to me straight off the Steam front page. This game reaaallly needs to be tagged with Open World, Sandbox and other relevant tags.

An Awesome little title that any fan of space adventure/Mining/Bounty hunting/ Trading even taxiing... will love!!

Not sure how long the story is at the moment but I've been ignoring it and just doing side jobs and with that wicked sound track its both engaging and rewarding to do just to get all the upgrades you can get for your ship.

With the new update coming the derelict salvaging is being overhauled which I am really excited about.

I defiinately recommend this game to anyone remotely interested in space titles.

Let me tell you something. I've had games that I've accidentally received in bundles over the years. Or stuff I was never expecting to get. Most of the time, It's been garbage to delete, make fun of, and move on from. But this. Holy crap.

Very reminiscent of Armada (the Dreamcast one) and still-incredible Space Rangers, but even easier to pick up and jump into. It does have a lot of influence from Freelancer/Escape Velocity. but it's a hell of a thing for me to find a game with the light touch of Star Wars aesthetic that doesn't come off as hammy and booger-picking. That alone makes this worth your time. Similarly, the soundtrack has a bit of the Cowboy Bebop motif of top 40 pop songs IN SPAAAAAAACE, which I always love.

Also I was able to map everything to Xpadder in a way that made perfect sense and made an already perfectly playable game 100% more playable.

Worth your 10 bucks, worth your 20 bucks even.

3030 Deathwar Redux is an update to a remake of a 2007 indie game. Confusing I know but it's to the game's benefit.

This is an open-galaxy space adventure with a mid-90s DOS aesthetic. There's a story which you can follow or not as you choose and there's also a variety of activities to undertake, including trading, one-off missions, piracy and scavenging derelicts for resources which can be used to upgrade your ship and its capabilities. The core concept are very much reminiscent of older games in the genre like Privateer, Freelancer or even Elite to a certain degree. The story seems kind of generic and goofy but in a Firefly sort of way that doesn't take itself at all seriously which I can appreciate.

People are either going to find the retro graphics endearing or eye burning. I'm very much in the former camp, as someone who grew up in that era of gaming. It also has the advantage of making the game's requirements very low, so you can easily play it on lower power laptops when on the go. It contols entirely with the keyboard as well. The soundtrack is incredibly varied and diverse and while a lot of the songs seem contextually out of place, it's still great to see so many different tracks available in some many genres. You'll spend a lot of time travelling out in space so having good stuff to listen to is always a bonus.

My complaints with it at this stage of development are the mission variety and that scavenging hulks is painfully samey. The missions are the usual crop of delivery, bounty hunting or transport missions but that's kind of it. Some more mixing up of that would be nice. In addition, scavenging a derelict literally just involves flying up to it, watching an animation, moving down a tiny hallway that never has anything in it but the loot, picking up the loot and watching another animation. The developers have said they plan to flesh this out more and I hope they do.

Make no mistake, this is a game that pays homage to the old school "space trucking" genre and has every intention to. If you're not into that, you won't be into this but if you are, it's a good time that can be enjoyed in short or long sessions. I plan to cover the game again once it hits final release and I'm anxious to see the new content additions at that point. Even now though, it's a good time if you like this kind of thing.

A wonderful game which focuses on experiencing the deep space without over-complicating things. I really like that there's a small story (even if I didn't finish it yet). Looking forward playing the game more and seeing what gets added in the future. Searched a long time for such a game!

The gameplay is exellent, haven't had any trouble with it whatsoever. The only thing it's missing is a slightly more in-depth story, as the final battle you encounter doesn't give you a feel of a accomplishment. Having said that though, still a great game

I bought this games because like many others it reminds me of Escape velocity, and I love that type of game and story-telling. Deathwar Redux puts an Indiana Jones/Rebel Galaxy spin on that, and brings in other kinds of mechanics to make the game interesting(the warp drive/fuel system, nebulas, keeping upgrades). It did a great job of being its own kind of game, yet still relates to other games i loved. so i give it an 8.5/10

That said there a few small things:

-occasional sound bugs, music stops playing, SFX stop working
-maybe i missed something, so this could be inaccurate, but i'd like to see more story with Kent and Vasquez
-the game isn't skimpy on content, and story, but as an EV Fan, I'd like more story lines.

All in all, i enjoyed playing this game, and definitely recommend it to a like minded gamer(Read: loves EV like games)

To the Dev,

you created a great game, and you have a fun platform. I'd love to see how you expand on this story. I'll be back if you do.

This is great little game for the price!
It's very similar to Escape Velocity:Nova and Transcendence, but some how has a very original Elite feel thrown in!
The way the time dilation and interstellar travel has been done is very clever and the music gives a great atmosphere to the game.

I discovered the old version of this little gem a while ago and it was instant love, so i was really looking forward to see the new version on steam. It may be in early access, but the game is complete and will only expand on what exist and get better during this period.

This game touch a few genres and make winks to classic cult movies and games with its tongue-in-cheek dialogues and encounters, and also making use of with its artwork. This last aspect may not be the finest but it really does it works portraying familiar worlds and characters. Here you can see aspects not only other great space sim games, but also from games of the adventure genre: the main character is an Indiana Jones wannabe and those colorful yet shady space stations will give you this bladerunneresque feel...

Even if there are elements made with nostalgic purposes this is a game that stand on his own. It is well made technically, the fighting AI is great and provides you with a decent challenge, the fact that there several ways to earn money avoid grinding, the big open world encourages exploring, and the history is compelling and makes you want to play the next chapter to see how the plot evolve. Oh, and that soundtrack is a score! it is very varied, but it all sounds great. Sometimes adding to the retro half of the game and sometimes to the half futuristic.

Another aspect to take into account is that the devs are passionate and really eager for feedback and ideas to keep expanding the game.

So if you like old school spaceships, adventure or 2d games in general, this is a must have to your collection!
