Chrome and Chrome Specforce are very generic FPS games.
The graphics are ok and the gameplay and story started quite well but I got bored midway though the 1st game and Specforce didn't bring anything new or fresh to advance either the gameplay or story.

This game tries desperately to make up for the previous title, 'Chrome', which had interesting ideas, but poor execution.

The god-awful combat from the first game has been fixed. Sort of. Not really. On the one hand, the enemy is no longer super accurate while your aim is all over the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ place. On the other hand, enemies are still dumb as a box of rocks.

The environments are, like the first game, big with lots of open spaces with wild animals foraging for food. It's a nice detail. It would have gone a bit better had they not simply reused so many of the assets from the first game. Add to that the blandness of some of the scenery... it's not very exciting to look at.

One of the biggest gripes I had with the first game was the designed-to-be-useless inventory. In the previous game, you couldn't carry more than two firearms. Now, you can, but it still retains the basic architecture, which is limiting. Still, it's improved.

I'm not sure why the enemies you fight have to be wearing the same sort of armor you and your team wears. It's weird.

The missions in this game seem more concise than the first game. The "tutorial" mission from the first game was unforgiving. Here they tried, at least, to introduce all the major concepts in the first "tutorial" mission, which is a cakewalk. I still find the implementation of the neural implant system to be archaic, but whatever.

It's sad to say, but the game still has a generic feel. I mentioned earlier that it recycles many of the assets from the previous game and, unfortunately, that includes the terrible facial models. Everyone you meet looks like they are missing a chromosome or two. The upside is that the voice acting is improved from the first game. The real problem is that there is no emotional investment in the game. For the sort of game it is, or tries to be, it simply lacks the characters, interaction and fascination that you find in games like Deus Ex or Halo (for examples).

If you are an avid FPS gamer, you may find something in here that you enjoy. If you're a more casual, or discriminating, FPS gamer then this probably won't do it for you.

More of the same crap. Chrome was absolutely horrible, but this tries at least to make amends... The movement is the same ice-glidy CRAP feel, but the gunplay somehow feels better. It's still utter ♥♥♥♥♥, don't get me wrong, but somehow less utter ♥♥♥♥♥ than Chrome's was.. The AI has the same Aimbot feel, picking you off from 10 km away with an SMG.. and I somehow managed to get myself killed by just standing in front of my teammate and getting shot 10 times by his sniper, so yeah, the same "smart" AI, dumb as a ♥♥♥♥ing brick *FACEPALM*. I got this in a bundle with the first Chrome for 1.5 euro... While on the last one I said you were better off throwing those 70 cents at birds, one by one, would be more fun, with this one I'm feeling extremely indulgent and say it's just barely worth 70 cents... Might be fun for at least 5 minutes, while you tweak the settings...

This game is reaaaaallllly bad. I thought it was going to be fun but nope, I was wrong. The key binding for this game is weird. Like.... Super wierd. Campain, Bad. I was stuck on this one point for half and hour and when I died.. I was forced to restart the whole level again. Tutorial was so boring. I was pretty much forcing myself to play the game.

I couldn't pass the first 2 missions because of how boring this game is. It's like a ghetto Crysis.

TLDR: Recommended if you want a short history lesson/commentary on the advancement of the videogames industry.

This game is possibly the father or grandfather of Crisis. The mechanics are too similar to not make that comparison. To see this comparison is really the only reason anyone should play this. It's dated, flawed, and asks too much from players who are used to the mechanics of more modern and fast paced video games.

You can snipe with a pistol, enemies can see you from half the distance the game allows the player to see. Etc.

Perhaps I'd recommend this game had I lived to experience it when it launched, I'm sure I would have been impressed then but as it stands now, I wouldn't expect anyone to care to play this except for a bit of a history lesson or commentary on how far the industry has come.

This game is just awesome I had so much fun laughing at the monstrosity which is this game. Now before I go any further this game is a hell of a lot better than chrome the gunplay feels a lot better and it actually looks quite nice considering. Now to rip the hell out of it, I think this game was hilarious in more ways than one for example the voice acting was awful but it was so funny I did not mind too much the AI basically kills you from halfway across the map with an SMG but again I think the devs were trying to make a good game and playing this after playing crysis just shows me how far we have come in game design like this felt like low rent crysis but it was so endearing I could not stay mad at it so I resorted to laughter in conclusion buy it if its on sale you will not be dissapointed.

Atmosphere, graphics, music are all good. I can think of only 2 faults in this game:
1 - The AI is a cheating ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
2 - Controls and movements are not fluid and feel slippery
Other than that its a solid title

Nowhere near as interesting as Chrome, but it's still fun to shoot guys with scifi guns. That's about all you do though.

A shooter that came out in 2005. A standalone expansion to an apparently acclaimed game. Graphics have come a long way from then. Gameplay is archaic, and map flow doesn't stand up like Deus Ex does. It is one of those games where you get a game over for accidentally shooting your ally. I think I am too spoiled by modern gaming to go back to games like this. It has implants and an inventory similar to Deus Ex, but the characters are not as interesting and I got stuck before finishing the game.

Throwing grenades in these old games is so awkward.

Chrome SpecForce is the surprising follow up to Chrome, surprising in the sense that nobody really expected a game that mediocre would get a sequel. Yet here we are, ready to take control of Bolt Logan once again against the evil corporations of the future.

Right off the bat the disappointment starts to set in, while Chrome was not much of a game one thing it did have going for it was the beautiful lush outdoor scenery that made an otherwise dull experience a little enjoyable at times. SpecForce on the other hand looks dated in just about every way imaginable. Everything from the character models to the 2D inventory icons looks like they belong in a different age.

In terms of gameplay SpecForce is your average shooter. You run around with your gun of choice killing bad guys with little variety. An occasional vehicle or turret segment breaks up the monotony a little but the experience still feels bland all around. The weapons feel weak and act weak as well, enemies often take half a magazine to bring down while your own character dies in only a few shots. The enemy Ai is utterly static as well with hostile guards refusing to move regardless of the situation and shooting at you the second you step around a corner with pinpoint accuracy. This lack of AI in the enemy NPCs might have been a deliberate choice however as the AI for your NPC squadmates leaves much to be desired when they act suicidally half the time and gets stuck on terrain features the other half.

In terms of sound is where SpecForce does gain some points however, not because of the mediocre soundtrack, or the lackluster weapon sounds, or even the repeating ambiance. No, it is your character's voice that will bring a smile to your face because for all the wrongs that the developers did with this game they did one thing right, they hired Jon St. John to voice the main character, and that man can bring a little life into even as horribly written a character as Bolt Logan.

All in all Chrome SpecForce manages tries to accomplish exactly what the original did, a mediocre shooter with some Deus Ex elements thrown in for good measure. However it tries to do so without the few qualities of the original Chrome and without those it's simply not worth a second look.

Polished, fixed version of Chrome - it's a prequel, actually. Lots of assets are either reskins or direct ports, but it's pretty fun. At least there're no stealth missions here. TIP: when doing anything with allied bots, do NOT stay in front of them. Or besides them, for that matter.

Great game, much better than the first one, however there's still issues with FPS, Steam really needs to fix this for those who have newer PCs.

If you can look past the graphics and the fact that it's an FPS I think you'll see the charm in the game, from what I've played the storyline is pretty good (old shooter, the story generally had to have SOME hook). Nothing special, but it's a good and cheap experience that's likely to pay off.
