great game with open maps allowing the player to chose how they engage the enemy. Chrome is quite hard but has a brilliant story and gives the player open mission spaces, vehicals and the ability to chose their load out prior to each mission. Chrome draws influences from Daus Ex and System shock with the player gaining acessess to specal implant based powers to augment their preformance and a grid based inventory. with three possible endings Chrome is a real treat and if you can get past the dated graphical apearance you will likely find something you like in it.

tl;dr Duke Nukem: The Later Years

A silly, ambitious little shooter that operates well (for its scope) as it includes a multitude of aspects. Maybe it was big/semi-big back when it launched, but I find most of it laughable yet enjoyable.

As a game, it operates with some clunk, but thus far, it hasn't been anything serious. Movement isn't exactly smooth, but it works, and inventory system has proven less than ideal, but again, it works. The HUD looks nice, but I'm not sure it's all actually "useful." The vehicles could handle better, but then again, I wouldn't expect vehicles and sprawling environments in a corridor-shooter that this game appeared to be in the prologue.

Some of the aesthetics and concepts like the HUD were probably phenominal back then, but basic polish is also not present. Still, if you can overlook graphical oddities and over-the-top gameplay elements (e. g.: the pseudo-realistic jerking of bodies as they die), you might enjoy this title.

I'd save my recommendation for shooter fans, or possibly Rambo-action movie fans. I'll likely update this when I've played more of the game. In the end, at least initially, it's a cheap thrill and I'm happy I purchased it.

This is a brilliant shooter from 2003 but it does however lack a little bit of polish.

Pros:

Wide open landscapes.
A large selection of weapons, assault rifles, submachine guns, pistols, rocket launcher etc.
Jon St.John did the voiceover for Bolt Logan.
Graphics for 2003 were superb.
Augmentations that are unlocked during the game, super speed, precise aiming etc are all fun to experiment with.

Cons:

A bit too much copy and paste on the internal sections.
Poor AI, once they detect you they are way too accurate or you kill the man next to them and they don't react at all.
Some weapons lack any kind of oomph.
Other voice acting in the game is bad.

Chrome... Ah, Chrome. Brings me back to the Times when me and a few Buddies of Mine were playing these Awesome Multiplayer matches. Infinite battle for the Rocketlauncher and a Stack of Grenades. Singleplayer is also awesome. In fact, missions will take you about 1 Hour to Complete, and it's a Great Experience to Travel these Huge Maps. Combat is challenging and It takes you about a Minute and Half to Kill 5 or 6 Bandits. The Storyline is Cool too, so in case you want some Oldschool Action mixed with a nice Plot - Welcome to Chrome.

Cool game:)
I am stuck at the part in the prologue where there are troops approaching the tower and you are sniping.
Not that it's too hard, I just run out of ammo.
First game I ever got o steam:)

First this is an old game,That means i wont be talking about graphics.

The gameplay is not bad at all , for a game of its age, the only thing is that this game is HARD yea you will be loading like 30 times per hour or so , BUT that can be good for some hardcore gamers that would like to remeber the older days.
Then comes the selection of things you cand ride like cars , hovering motercycles and others,it kinda remindes me of battelfield cause the map is BIG seriously BIG,in story mode and multyplayer.

Now to the multyplayer : Its kind of battelfield with quake 4,that of course isnt bad, the only thing is that there isnt that much people playing but you will get an a match, there are modes like team death mach, capture the flag,ETC.

I cant say much about the story cause i have only pased the prolouge recently, yes the PROLOUGE took me like 3 hours to pass in HARD, but for now its prooving its self interesting and good.

So if you want remeber old times, or you can spare some cash.

its worth it.

bye

Chrome has potential. It has nice graphics, large open space areas to run or drive around in, interesting ideas, and a pretty good premise. However, it falls so far short in it's execution.

The biggest problem is the stupid AI with their unbelievable level of accuracy. Even with using cover, you could find yourself a bullet-sponge because they are so damn accurate. Meanwhile, I've been a mere few yards from enemies and had all of my shots miss. To call it frustrating is an understatement. In fact, the best way I've found to deal with the enemies is grenades. However, grenades are glitchy - sometimes you'll go to throw one and it simply won't leave your hand.

Then there is the designed-to-be-useless inventory system which doesn't allow you more than two firearms, which wouldn't be such an issue if combat encounters weren't such crap (much easier to pick guys off from a distance with sniper rifle than engage them in close combat).

The gun recoil is high. High tech future where intergalactic spaceships are cheap enough for the average joe to afford, but gun technology has not advanced an iota. Stationary, kneeling, and keeping a steady aim doesn't prevent wild recoil. Best thing to do is shoot in bursts, but that's an issue in most fights because of how quickly enemies can fill you full of holes.

The health of your character is an easy thing to manage on the first mission where there is abundant health packs, but in the next mission they are scarce, which is problematic given the number of enemies. Health packs are the only way I've found to "heal" so far.

The voice acting is pretty bad. Not terrible, but the sort where when people are talking you're reminded that yes, this in fact a video game. Your own character sounds like a cross between Duke Nukem and the guy who narrates 'Honest Movie Trailers'. Some of the things they say are cringe-worthy. I'm not sure if this is bad dialogue writing or simply a bad translation (Polish developer). However, the biggest issue is really that there is little in the way of character to identify with. The better FPS games out there find some way to tap into an emotional investment with other characters. In Half-Life and Half-Life 2 the NPCs speak to you like you're a person living in their world, like you're a part of their community, which makes pressing forward, even when it's difficult, a worthwhile endeavour. The same can be said of Deus Ex and Halo. They engendered an investment in the game that is lacking here.

The bugs in the game are often surprising. I was in the middle of a gun fight up on the upper levels of the complex in the first mission when I went to kneel behind cover and fell through the floor to the ground below and died. Later I just cleared a room of enemies and my character called "clear" so that the unarmed NPC waiting behind me could move forward - as soon as "clear" was called another enemy popped up and killed me. Later you're both on an elevator and when the doors open to the roof you tell her to run and she is immediately shot dead by an enemy pretty far away.

The level of difficulty for the prologue ("tutorial" mission) was just out there. The game doesn't really care to help you learn the ropes or ease you into the game by ramping up the difficulty as you play. Early in the mission you are told to take out a sniper in his tower. I died so many times trying to figure out how to approach the tower. Really, taking out the sniper was more luck than skill, because as I've mentioned before - their accuracy is perfect and yours is crap. Did I mention there is no "run", no "sprint" and no "dodge" button? Yea, so while you jaunt over to the nearest rock you just have to pray the sniper has to stop at some point to reload.

I want to like this game and I almost do. Can't really recommend it for the casual FPS player, but I can see where stauncher FPS players may enjoy it, though they should know going in that it feels generic.

Is your computer too ♥♥♥♥ to run crysis? Chrome's got you covered.

It's like a low-budget action sci-fi flick from the 80s. Surprisingly charming in its own way.

Poor AI can't be masked by godlike aim, but Chrome plays similar to a cross between Deus Ex and Crysis with an emphasis on assessing the situation and tactical positioning. Facial animations almost begin to rival some current generation games despite being nearly a decade old, and the voice acting is surprisingly competent, especially Jon St. John's performace as Bolt Logan, the player character.
Sound design for the weapons is ultimately generic; the guns lack 'oomph,' there is little feedback as to whether you've hit your target or not, and your weapons seem to be much less accurate than your enemies'. Voice acting from many characters not Logan range from laughably bad to above mediocre. You'll hear many of the same lines repeated infinitely, and none of them are really all that entertaining.
Level designs change from wide open outside levels constricted only by mountains and bodies of water, with interior laboratories and bunkers that bleed together very quickly. Luckily, most of the game takes place outside. However, stealth is nearly impossible, as you cannot get within a certain distance from your enemies without them automatically acquiring you, though should you choose to snipe from a distance, enemies may not even realize that you have just slain their comrade who was standing just two feet away, yet once you are detected, every enemy in the area will pelt you with a hail of bullets.
Your character has augmentations unlocked as you progress in the game. These include super speed, which, unfortunately, does not reduce enemies' accuracy against you, strength that causes you to flinch less when hit, a shield that halves damage taken, more precise aiming, and a zoom function, as well as others.
I didn't expect much when I booted Chrome up for the first time, but what I got was much better, though still a flawed experience. With better and less unfair AI, Chrome could potentially have been one of the great games of the last generation, but this shortcoming nearly cripples the enjoyment that could have been had.
