What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Guardians of Ember is the newest title from Runewaker, the developer behind Runes of Magic and Dragon's Prophet. Although the game is almost feature complete, we are still working on the English localization (mostly finalizing Acts 4 & 5 and the 6th class which will be included in the final product), bug fixes and smaller balancing and polishing tasks. Instead of waiting for the complete localization we want to use the Early Access phase to gather feedback from the community by releasing Act 1 & 2 first (Act 3 was released recently).”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect that GoE will be in Early Access between 3 to 6 months. At the moment it is planned to release new major content (Act 4-5, 6th class) on a regular basis so that the release version will have the full content ready and polished.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Beside the localization issues (and the fact that we would like to provide a German and French version as soon as possible) the major difference is content wise as we plan to implement Acts 4-5 incl. the related territories, dungeons, character levels and items as well as the 6th class.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As a previous version of the game had a beta in Asia before the majority of the features is already implemented (including but not limited to crafting, guild system, PVP, message system, randomized dungeons). From our own player perspective the current state is a very good open beta, but we don't want to go commercial without the full content! However, our servers did not have a stress test yet and they were initially located in Germany only with US servers added recently. We will provide local servers throughout EA based on player population and necessity.

We are working hard to improve the game but please only buy this product if you want to support the development and accept that the product quality is not final yet.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“While the final pricing has not been decided yet, beside the fact that Early Access buyers have our eternal gratitude they also benefit from their early decision due to the several ingame bonus items and benefits that we put into the different packages.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“In the last couple of years our team worked with several online games and the most valuable source for the right direction of a product was ALWAYS the community.

This means:
We are happy to get your ideas and to discuss these!
Yes, it is not always possible to make all of the ideas real and we might refuse some of them, but we listen and want to deliver a great experience with your help!”

State of the game: Content-Updates and other plans!

Hello Immortals,
with so many comments in the forums and below our news we thought we give you a comprehensive update on where we are right now with the game, explain why things might have been slower than expected and what is coming next!

The Story so far...

First of all we'd like to thank everyone who bought the game and provided helpful feedback. While of course no smash hit (yet) the game has far exceeded our expectations - given that we are in Early Access, launched during the busy Christmas period / closely to competitors doing major expansions and without a big marketing budget - and as a result we are now able to significantly increase the dev-team to speed up the improvements before our "full" launch later this year.

That being said we are currently behind schedule and the main reasons are an exploit (thankfully fixed within hours) and our unexpected server issues right after launch including the hasted setup of an US-based server that we had originally planned for our full launch. This simply cost a lot of attention (and night shifts) of the dev team. While we released Act 3 during the Christmas holidays (adding another 14 zones, crafting and mining and increased the level cap to level 40) we could not fix bugs or work on general improvements as quickly as we liked.

Short-term plans

The good news is that we have now successfully shifted our resources to bug fixing and that we will have a first bug oriented patch early next week. It will fix a lot of Act 3 quest related bugs as well as smaller bugs like progress bar issues for some quests, avoiding player exit possibilities from PVP queue, voucher invalidation due to spaces, issue with the City Sewers’ Bat Portal and more.

In the future we will have continuous bug fixes with regular patches while working on the general improvement of the game. Please understand that some of the bugs might be nasty and take more time to reproduce and identify the reasons or that we sometimes have to fix related issues in the background first.

We will release the Iron Hero feature on 1st of February and celebrate this feature with a very challenging two-week event - you can find all information how to win visits to the Taiwanese development studio or other cool prizes in our forum.

Just three weeks later will see the release of Act 4, the next big content update to the game with more than 10 new zones and 16 dungeons, increasing the level cap to 50!

We also hope that within February we can deliver the first drop of our German localization - the UI!

Mid-Term Plans

In the meantime we are already working on the release of Act 5, full German version, the Dark Knight character class and several new features and general improvements. These things will be released during Early Access but we do not have fixed dates yet as we are absorbing your feedback to the immediate patches first. Rest assured that we are reading all of your forum posts, reviews, news comments and especially the survey results - you are the best community we could hope for!

For that matter we know that some of you are worried about the number of players online but from our point of view these numbers are well in line with our Early Access goals to test and improve the game. With the above mentioned updates towards the full release we will not only get a lot of players back that are currently at the level cap or are simply waiting out the EA but also kick off a much bigger marketing campaign.

We are also getting asked on a daily basis if GoE will be F2P/P2W in the future so let's be clear again: We have no plans to go F2P so while we can never say never, it will not happen in the foreseeable future. And while we might add new items and FE-based systems to the game we will definitely never be P2W but keep these premium features optional!

Once again we want to thank you for your support of our game, invite you to discuss with us in the forums and promise you that we will do our best to make it the game you want to play! This is just the beginning of a long and exciting journey!

Alpha and the whole GoE Team at InselGames and Runewaker

We need your help - Survey!

Dear Immortals!

Your attention please! This is deeply serious!

We have designed a survey that requires your perusal and we would love if you take a few minutes out of your day to fill it out. Rest assured, the process is completely anonymous, we won’t be harvesting your I.P or anything like that, we can only see your answers and your time-stamp.

Please be open and honest in your responses but if you don’t feel like answering certain questions feel free to skip them. Obviously though, the more detailed data we gather the easier it will be to identify and implement any required changes and fixes.

Surveys like this are often the best route to improving a product and can be even more effective than the feedback we receive via Facebook, Steam and our standard support ticket system.

Many thanks in advance and see you in Olyndale,

Your GoE team
