About This Game

A 30-ton garbage truck screams towards you, plowing through a sea of pedestrians. A swarm of flying drones joins the truck, pinning you down with laser fire. Now's your chance: you stop, and time slows to a trickle. You grab your gun. You aim. You fire. You weave through the lasers, and time returns to normal. Your bullets speed up and cut your enemies to shreds. As the garbage truck slams into the wall behind you, you turn to the camera for your one-liner: "Time to take out the trash." You're going to look great on the big screen.

Tick Tock Bang Bang is a time manipulating FPS where you are a stunts woman and you have to do all these dodging, slow bullet time kills and all sorts of neat stunts. Yes, it’s very much inspired from Superhot, now that that’s out of the way we can actually review the game. The game has Mirror’s edge vibe as the graphics art-style is very similar to that.

Graphics:

The graphics in Tick Tock Bang Bang are very basic but that doesn’t mean the game looks bad. In fact the game looks very pretty. Graphics plain and simplistic. Sort of that minimal look going on and it’ll definitely remind you of Mirrors edge. Field of view is fully adjustable upto 120 degrees. Game is locked at 60FPS. I did have some dips, especially when a lot was going on the screen in the game with ‘Extreme’ graphics settings. I guess all those physics based calculations do take a toll on the GPU.

Sound:

The game has some nice ambient music. It’s not the best but it’s okay for such a game. There are a few lines of voice acting which are done in a good manner.

Gameplay:

Let’s get down to the main part of this game. The gameplay, and it did not disappoint me. I really loved playing this game throughout. You’re a Hollywood stunts woman named Delta T and you must go through these bunch of Hollywood stunt scenarios. When your character is stopped in place the time slows down. You can use this to dodge enemy fire and do your stunts. You can jump as well but the time only goes in real-time when you press either direction buttons. So moving forward or backward or strafing left and right are the only movements which will make the time go normally. Most missions or ‘stunts’ consist of you getting from point A to point B while dodging robots, cars, rocks, lasers etc. A few missions have you kill the enemies.

There’s a bunch of different obstacles. Your first stunt has you dodge a bunch of cars and trucks thrown at you, yes not driving, just randomly thrown at you and you must dodge them. The physics are different every time so every time you start a stunt the cars/trucks will be thrown in a different pattern. So there is no predictable pattern in most missions. The robot enemies however are placed at the same spot every time so you can strategize your movement accordingly. There’s quite a lot of missions and with workshop support you can also get more.

Delta T has a very short range electrocuting gun. For this to be effective you must be right next to the enemy. Once you kill an enemy they will drop bullets, the amount depends on the stunt you’re doing but in most of the stunts you get 1 bullet per robot killed. There’s other weapon pickups too like an EMP grenade which can be used to kill specific enemies. When an enemy is killed it explodes and these explosions can sometimes get in the way but I think that’s deliberate. It makes the game a bit more challenging as these explosions can obscure other enemies.

There’s a lot of different types of enemies, there’s an orange robot drone which shoots at you, one bullet at a time. There’s also different type of robot drone which shoots 2 bullets at a time and is purple colored. When any of these drones shoot, you can clearly see the bullets and dodge accordingly as they leave a bit of trail which can tell you the direction the bullet is traveling. There’s other types of enemies such as exploding dummies (think those headless kamikaze in Serious Sam games) who run towards you and blow up when the touch you or anything like a car/block/object. You have to either shoot to kill them or bait them to oncoming traffic/obstacles. There’s big huge rotating laser robots as well as boss fights.

A short gameplay video can be found below:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=712593244

Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 6/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Overall: 8/10

Conclusion:

A very fun game which can be extremely satisfying. Killing a whole bunch of people in slo-mo while dodging bullets like the Matrix. Dodging cars, trucks and exploding dummies and did I mention EXPLOSIONSSS?!?!?? Yes please! There’s achievements (though a bit short on achievement quantity in my opinion, only 6 achievements as of this review, maybe they’ll add more later). Workshop support so you can download other people’s creations.

+More SUPERHOT as the game is clearly 'inspired' by it
+Game works fine, controls fine
+Level creator/workshop support

-Boring aesthetic
-Very bland sound design, practically no music
-Pickups/powerups are incredibly boring and just solve the level automatically
-Final level is overly long compared to every other level before it
-Very short game
-Reused assets from Drunken Robot Pornography
-Zero story and even the premise alone removes all sense of urgency (You're doing hollywood stunts)

My opinion cannot be bought. A crap game is a crap game whether I was sent a key or not. Good job this is a great game! More colorful and longer in playtime than SuperHot. Runs really well. Graphics are cool. Enemies are challenging, some are genuine "WTF IS THAT MAN?!?!" moments. I was mouth open a few times. Controls are great. No game crashes. Loads up really fast. Music is good. Good difficulty curve. Price is good. Small file size for downloading. Recommended. See the attached vid with commentary

I liked it - it's cool! I found the various different ways in which the time freezing mechanic was used over the levels was interesting and fun and I liked the visual aesthetic too. At first you go through the basic tutorial levels quickly and then it starts to get harder with longer levels and you have to try different approaches until you nail the level. It's more like a puzzle game than an FPS, or maybe a mash up of both.

Anyway, I recommend it if you haven't tried Super Hot OR if you have tried Super Hot and want to see how the devs innovated on the mechanic.

Lots of people are fairly comparing this game to Superhot. To me, it feels like Superhot and Drunken Robot Pornography had a weird swinger evening with Crazy Taxi in a hot tub at a party with some other games they used to date back in college and after 12 months of awkward gestation and 3 months of bed rest, something with underdeveloped vocal chords and adorable vestigial wings crawled out of 1.5 of their wombs, cooing for some regurgitated meat and a spot on the leaderboard. ... ... ... uhh... ... Anyway, it once again does what Dejobaan does best, which is make games that are just generally fun to play and maybe make you giggle a little maniacally.

To anyone calling it a ripoff: If you had any idea how long it takes to actually make a game, you'd look at the release dates of the two games and say "oh, never mind." Odds are much higher they were just sitting at the same table at GDC a couple years ago listening to the same person discuss bullet time mechanics...

This game is by far one of the most fun games i have ever bought and played. In my opinion, this game is more fun than Superhot, even though it might be seen as a copy of it. The graphics are amazingly good, the levels are so much fun and everything just looks so pretty and cool. Would love to see more content from people in the workshop though!

Dejobaan doing what they do best: cloning and iterating innovating like a beast!

This is basically Superhot a revolutionary new time manipulation mechanic with some elements of their own Drunken Robot Pornography mashed in, and a smattering of high-speed vehicles for good measure, somehow encapsulating both "cheap knock-off" and "better than the original" philosophies. There is, strictly speaking, more a wide variety in the form of all the robots, turrets, lasers, jump pads, cars, rockslides, the infernally aggravating kamikaze dummies, and perhaps most notably, a level editor AND custom robot builder. On the flipside, you get to deal with some weird inertia with the controls, a ridiculously short-range taser shot when out of bullets, lack of replays, extremely uneven difficulty curve, detonations that obscure your view of incoming threats for way too long, lack of melee function, and just generally vaguely stiff-feeling gameplay.

To be clear, I don't dislike it, this is more of a thumbs-sideways, but judging by achievement ratio to playtime there's about an hour and a half of campaign in total and I don't like it enough to keep playing. The presesnce of level and robot editors is a great idea to be sure, but I'd have to really love the base gameplay to invest the time in building and exploring new content.

For about the same campaign length as Superhot, you only have to pay a third of the price. That being said, if Superhot had a level editor there'd be little reason for this to exist. Despite my feelings on it, it's an amazing new concept!

Lots of People say this game mimicks SuperHot & Drunken Robot Pornography. They are right in that case. But Tick Tock Bang Bang takes the best attributes of those 2 games to give you a wild, intense & genuinely Fun game to play.Plus they added Cars to the "Game equation" so you can further-more enjoy the Hilariously stupid Cluster♥♥♥♥ of a game it is.

My Unappreciated opinion-->(Also in one of the Boss levels you can hear the Boss saying "Super..Bot,Super..Bot".This is most likely mocking Superhot & Personally I thought that was rather funny.)

Damn good! Imagine if Superhot had a baby in Mirror's Edge's world, then made it dodge cars. That's Tick Tock Bang Bang. You're presented with a different challenge every level, some involving shooting stuff, others involving dodging stuff, and every single one a puzzle where you must slow OR speed up time in order to succeed. There is a lot of trial and error, but error results in immediate death, meaning you'll never approach a level the same way twice. There is plenty of content here as well, with leaderboards to keep you competing and user generated challenges for even more longevity!

Most importantly, from a technical standpoint, everything seems fine. I'm getting consistently between 30-60fps on a GTX 650, so if you're playing with more power than I am, you should be golden. Also did not run into any bugs, leaderboard loads fine, and levels load in around 4-5 seconds. Nothing game-killing here, so you can rest easy knowing your $10 is going to a good use.

Definitely recommend picking this one up!

I'm noticing a trend in the reviews section here.

Well, I for one haven't played this game or that, nor do I own them. I was handed a key for free by a friend, so here we are. I had no high expectations, nor any low expectations, I was just given a game so I played it.

And, well, it's pretty cool. I mean, it feels okay. I don't really like that you can't customize your crosshair, it's white, you see, and in a game which makes a heavy use of 'white' in it's colour palette, well, it'd be nice to be able to change it.

So first things first, opening up the game, and OH GOD it's VERY APPARENT that it's another Unity game, because the Unity engine has a lot of very noticeable things that just very clearly define it. But what is nice is that this one's actually the first actually well made Unity game I've played, so that's not even a detractor this time around.

So lets talk story. There isn't one. THANK GOD. The last thing we need is for a game to come along, say it's this one thing, this nice, cute little idea, and then go all philosophical on us, or something like that. Just not cool. Tick Tock Bang Bang has no story. I love that.

Graphics are lovely, surprisingly. A bit too much bloom, explosions are super annoying when they're in your face because they render you blind, and then it's just blind (haha) luck whether or not you're going to take a hit, and die. This is a pain because this happens every now and then, and usually you've got no choice except to pick a direction to go in, and deal with it. But I digress. Lots of vivid colours, bright, sharp colours that you look at and go 'wow that's bright'. It's a good thing, too.

Gameplay is simple and self-explanatory. There is no tutorial. You get some basic buttons, and that's it, and like it when games do this... if they can actually pull that off. And this one... well, does it. The black hole generator needs to be used once or twice before you figure out what it actually does, but that's okay. Anyway, you just hop into a level, shoot flying robots with this taser thing, or maybe a gun. Everything, no matter how big it is, dies in just one shot, if you can place that shot correctly. And this is one mechanic I really really like. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing something that looks like an upside down space ship from Starcraft or something explode into a million pieces after being shot once in a sensitive spot.

I don't really have much more to say, the game's pretty fun, it is what it is, in a good way, and I surprisingly managed to place pretty high on more than a few of the maps, especially the last one, so that's cool.

Also, I spotted multiple references to certain other indie games, and that's really awesome. I found the Aaaaaa!!! one the most entertaining, since I remember playing that way back in 2011 briefly.

There's one or two levels in this which kind of annoyed me, but pretty much everything else was awesome. There were a lot of really great moments. Lots of pretty explosions.

I can't think of anything bad to say about the game. It's pretty cool.
