The CINEMA UPDATE UPDATE - Bigscreen Beta v0.17.1 patch is now live on Steam

Hey all,

Version 0.17.1 was just released. It fixes several bugs, and there are still more bugs to be fixed in the next few days.

Bugs that we just fixed

  • Desktop audio streaming—fixed bug
  • Desktop audio streaming—fixed bug where local audio would mute if all players leave your room
  • Desktop audio streaming—fixed bug where audio sounded "choppy"
  • Desktop audio streaming—fixed bug where you heard yourself echo (please DO NOT change the Windows Sound Manager settings in your system tray after starting desktop audio streaming in Multiplayer)
  • Desktop audio streaming—fixed inbound volume issues
  • Desktop audio streaming—fixed bug where devices weren't selected due to international characters in the device names (German, Russian, etc.)
  • Gaze mouse—fixed and now works in Cinema
  • Cinema—fixed bad performance when leaving the Cinema and going into other environments

Other known bugs that we plan to fix this weekend

  • Poor performance in the Cinema environment sporadically for some users
  • Poor internet connections/hiccups cause disconnections
  • Not properly connecting to rooms and ending up forever alone in the living room

Keep in mind the Cinema is a highly demanding environment with expensive realtime lighting that uses a lot of graphics horsepower. We do plan on improving this further in the future, and there are some actual bugs with Cinema performance (randomly), but just a heads up on what to expect!

These known bugs will be patched this weekend and in the coming weeks.

We're also planning on jumping into Bigscreen tonight to watch some movies and play some games. Say hi if you see devs in the rooms!

THE CINEMA UPDATE - huge Bigscreen Beta release

This is our biggest update since launching Bigscreen Beta in March '16. This has HUGE improvements and new features that you've been asking for over the past year.

New huge Cinema environment

  • Huge 100-foot screen
  • Hyper-realistic dynamic lighting. The screen shines light onto the walls and seats, and the room becomes very dark - pitch black - if the screen is black
  • 40 AI bots (NPCs) make the Cinema feel lively, as if you're in a real theater with a bunch of people

Massive performance improvements

You will see significantly reduced CPU, GPU and RAM usage in both Singleplayer and Multiplayer. We aren't done yet, even more performance improvements are planned in the future

Flawless 1080p 30fps desktop streaming

In Bigscreen Multiplayer, you can see each other's desktop screens (basically screen sharing). Previously, it would use a ton of CPU and might only be 2fps.

We wrote a new streaming engine that can easily stream flawless 1080p 30fps. It's still peer-to-peer, private, and encrypted. Your data/desktop does not stream through our servers, it only goes directly to the people in your Multiplayer room.

Native desktop audio streaming

  • natively integrated into Bigscreen, no additional software required. just plug in a pair of headphones or a speaker, and select it in Settings>Audio as your "Desktop Audio Mirroring device". you'll hear sound in both your headset and on this mirror device
  • the desktop audio stream is now streaming in stereo (previously mono) and at a higher quality (increased bitrate)

Experimental support for Windows 7 & "VR Ready" Nvidia Optimus laptops

Performance will not be as good as Windows 8/10 PCs. This is our first experimental release. Please test it and give us feedback. We plan to improve this even further in upcoming updates.
