Devil May Cry 4 is an amazing hack-and-slash game that is easy to learn and hard to master. The combat system is very in depth and there is always more room for improvement, even for the greatest masters of the game. It also has many different difficulty levels that will keep you busy for HOURS. You get to play as either Nero, who has a very interesting combat system because of his grab ability, and Dante, who has a variety of weapons and fighting styles to choose from while in game, giving an indefinite number of possibilities for combos. Plus, the game is very pretty, even on the lowest graphics settings, and for a PC port, it is not that bad.

Now here's the part where you yell at me for stating my opinion. My main criticisms of the game lie heavily in the story, which I honestly believe was bland and tasteless. Dante isn't the main character, but instead, it's Nero, who in my opinion, acted too much like a whiny ♥♥♥♥♥♥ (though his combat is very unique). A majority of the characters are completely one-dimensional and don't really serve any purpose other than being the damsel in distress or the power-hungry bad guy or the envious rival . I pretty much only enjoyed the parts of the story where Dante was included because at least he was cheeky in an enjoyable way. Although I liked Nero's combat style, it got old for me pretty quick.

Other downsides include the camera problems (which I am pretty sure is typical for a Devil May Cry game), a lack of costumes, the hideous amount of backtracking which puts Dante's role in the game to shame (I am talking you're backtracking for almost HALF THE GAME), and the lame final boss whose attack patterns are very predictable. Plus there's not much innovation put into the level design, which brings me back to the backtracking issue. I honestly felt like I was playing a somewhat incomplete story.

Overall DMC4 was a mostly fun ride from start to end. It does bring back Bloody Palace as well as has a couple fun bosses. What it fails at in areas such as level design and completeness, the game makes up for it with an awesome combat system, beautiful visuals, and long playability. It wasn't as good as Devil May Cry 3, but better than DmC Devil May Cry.

Overall I give Dante May Backtrack 4 an 8/10

TL;DR The gameplay is amazing, but the story was very lackluster and unfinished.

Also, side note: For those of you who are planning on buying the PC port for DMC3, DON'T. You can thank me later.

The best DMC game on steam currently since DMC3's port was godawful sadly, This game can probably run on a potato the engine is so lightweight and if you have a system to max it out, it looks glorious and runs at constant 60fps, I would say get a controller though, but you don't NEED one i just prefer it. The combat has a lot of potential mostly with dante and his on the fly style switching, decently challenging including a PC exclusive mode Legendary Dark Knight mode that spawns in hordes of enemies that isn't present on the console version for obvious reasons, overall a good buy.

    Sooooo
    First of all: Hello
This is my review on the game "Devil May Cry 4" and also kind of 3.
The reason for that is that i need to tell you the reason why i would recommend this game even though i am on the bad side there from what i read about people that played the game.
If there are some parts i have missed about the game then please ignore that fact. This here is simply there to state my opinion on the game. So lets begin:

So after buying the DMC 3 and 4 recently i was hoping to play them very soon. I have watched many videos about the series and loved it already. Then finally it said: DMC 3 was finished downloading. DMC 4 was next but i already started to play the first one i had to play.

And what can i say? It was disapointing. I shouldve known, and i kind of did, that the controlls cant be changed. It is in the end a port from a console game. So with me not having a controller i began to play Twister after about 10 minutes of gameplay on my keyboard and my lefthand thumb begin to hurt for whatever reason. (I still dont understand why but who cares). But the concept of the game was very nice. I would love to reccomend DMC 3 just as well and i probably will but for me, not getting past the second boss just because the controls are quite... Well it is a bummer i would say that you cant really get far without smashing your hands everywhere on the keyboard.

But now to DMC4. Finally it was downloaded as well. And i began to play right away. Not knowing much about this game just as well as with DMC 3 i thought it was just a consoleport either. But, yay, it wasnt and i could configure the keybinds to my liking. Now i wont put that as a con for DMC 3 but it is a bummer since i cant play without playing Twister on my keyboard :D

But back to the point. The game is very nice looking, runs very smooth and the combat is very nice. Like i said: I am on the bad side here so just take this as my opinion. The Story, The Charackters and the Plottwist at the very end, dont worry no spoilers, are very well thought out and makes the game really enjoyable. Even though i have to say that when you get to a certain point it can be a bit hard to beat 2 of the many bosses this game has for you. So to wrap it up real quick: This game is a nicely developed jewel that i would play over and over again just because it is that good. It is entertaining but challenging as well. You think you just did beat the hardest enemy in the game? Nope there is the next one right behind you. And if you think Agnus is hard to kill just wait for the sort of Endboss.

All in all i will recommend the game. Because i enjoyed it alot and will enjoy it alot more in the future.

The time has come and so have I
I'll laugh last, 'cause you came to die
The damage done, the pain subsides
And I can see the fear clear when I look in your eye

I'll never kneel and I'll never rest
You can tear the heart from my chest
I'll make you see what I do best
I'll succeed as you breathe your very last breath
Now I know how the angel fell
I know the tale and I know it too well
I'll make you wish you had a soul to sell
When I strike you down and send you straight to hell

My army comes from deep within
Beneath my soul, beneath my skin
As you're ending I'm about to begin
My strength is pain and I will never give in
I'll tell you now, I'm the one to survive
You'll never break my faith or my stride
I'll have you choke on your own demise
I'll make the angels scream and the devil cry

So far, 4.8 hours in, having a pretty good time. Never played a DmC game before, grabbed this one, and I genuinely enjoy it. Although the number of abilities I have unlocked is minimal, the combat still doesn't get old. The boss fights are PHENOMENAL. There's a good amount of strategizing you have to do in them, and quick reaction times are a must along with good sequencing of dodges and attacks. Only thing I don't like at this point is the camera angles are always irritating and you can't control them, and I want more variety in the basic enemies to fight. Oh and getting new abilities takes a hell of a long time to have enough points, but that's not that bad. Will add more to this when I finish.

    Edit:
Finished the game. The ending was a bit disappointing, but still a good game. The combat was a lot of fun throughout, and I figured out what to properly spend points on to make it even more fun. This is one of the few games in my steam library that I've actually finished playing if that tells you anything. Also, Dante is by far the greatest character in any game ever. My reccomendation: if you haven't played the franchise before, and want to get started, this is a good place to start at.

    Tons of fun.
I was enjoying myself every second that I played this game.
There are some resident evil esque camera readjustments during normal levels which can be annoying, but besides that the game really is fantastic. The gameplay has many many different ways to approach fights, the cutscenes will make you laugh, and then gape in awe, the characters are lovable, and the action is to die for.

It's Devil May Cry. What ISN'T to like?
    Get the game already.

Bought DMC4 tonight. Only played for 3-4 hours. I bought and played the original DMC years ago for the PS2. I remember playing it. I remember really enjoying it. But that was a long time ago. Up through recent years I've leaned more towards 3rd person open world games. But that $5 sale price on DMC4, along with people claiming that DMC4 for PC is the definitive version to have... well, okay, I figured it'd be fun for a bit, if nothing else. Yeah... DMC4 is frickin' brilliant fun!

The graphics may be old, but it's a beautiful game. It looks great, plays great, and I can't wait to dig into more DMC4 gameplay. Gems like DMC4 make me wonder what other AAA games I've been missing out on over the years, playing RPGs, MMOs, and such.

This was the first DMC game I ever played, so it holds a special place in my heart. Since then I've played all the games (except the newest DMC for certain reasons <_<) and have become a huge fan of the series since then. Among the four I've played I would say... this one is second best, with DMC 3 taking first.

The beautiful graphics, the music, the voice acting, the dante, and THE COMBAT!!! ohhh the combat (drools). I gotta say I wouldn't mind if nero got his own prequel/sequeal.

    8/10

(this game only get negative points for doing all the same levels twice but with different charactors)

Devil May Cry 4 is an excellent PC port. I am not a hardcore hack and slash fan; DMC games are the only games in the genre that I've really played. I first played DMC4 when it was released on the PS4 and used to play it almost exclusively, and it is my first DMC game. I always felt the game was very fair in how it treated the player. Enemies telegraph their attacks and, in most cases, at least, will not initiate attacks if they are off-screen, so there should be few frustrating surprises for most players. Most bosses are a lot of fun to fight.

Both of the playable characters are fun to play, and they are different enough from each other that mastering both of them will likely take a player a solid amount of time. I do feel that Dante is much more complicated than Nero, but newcomers to the series will be playing as Nero, so they will have time to get familiar with the game playing as him before they start playing with the more complicated Dante. Nevertheless, I felt that they are both rewarding to play. Creating stylish combos is extremely satisfying and rewarding.

The campaign itself suffers from severe repetition; nearly half of the game is made up of backtracking. The story is lackluster and has glaring questions that were not addressed. However, the weak story is forgivable due to the game's focus on action, and it is perfectly fine to ignore it entirely. The backtracking is a problem that I cannot ignore; the latter half of the campaign feels very repetitive even if I'm playing as a different character with a vastly different moveset. Many of the bosses have to be fought multiple times, and, unfortunately, the variety of bosses is not as great as it was in DMC3.

I don't feel that DMC4 is unpleasant to look at, but its age shows. However, the game is a good port; it runs very smoothly and I did not feel like I was lacking options. The level design is suitably dark and the atmosphere is appropriate. Some enemy designs appear to have been reused from older DMC titles, but it's fun enough to beat up enemies that I hardly mind. The scoring system and the unlockables add replayability to the game.

Turbo mode and Legendary Dark Knight mode, which are both exclusive to the PC version of the game, make the PC port worth purchasing over its console counterparts, especially considering how well the game runs on PC. I feel that these features make the PC version worth buying over the console versions. Turbo mode speeds the game up, making a fast-paced action even faster. Legendary Dark Knight mode spawns hordes of enemies. Both of these features make the game so much better and more enjoyable, even as someone who played a great deal on the PS4. Playing the game with a controller is imperative; this game was not made with a keyboard and mouse in mind.

As you can see i don't have much time on this game, but i have just recently completed the whole game. But between DMC 5 and DMC 4 they are very different, these are the only two i have played so far but i have to say i like DMC 5 better, to me its more fun and it makes more sense for DMC to be that type of game and it felt like it worked better than the style this game takes. But still this game is very good i just find the other one more action packed i should say and it ended up being more satisfying. i also liked the style of DMC 5 better too, i like how its a modern style rather than gothic and i like the young dante best he was cocky and funny as hell.(i also hate nero he's like a dante wannabe, dante is way better)

    Result: 8.5/10

I'd reccommend this game any day

A challenging game full of badass action!

    Description:
You play as a guy named Dante, who goes around shooting and slashing hell's minnions. Along the road you unlocking or upgrading cool skills that improve combat animation effect. You either are cheering at the end or crying at the end of each map (difficulty). Enjoy badass cut-scenes, for each victorious conquest to a level.

    Tips:
    - I recommend playing with a xbox controller. (Is playable with keyboard)
    - look up some wikis if you are lost on a map level side event.

The combat feels slow and akward in the first levels and if you are an hardcore DMC fan u might dont like the new "hero" Nero.
Just give it a try cuz it gets better and later in the game you will get the oppurtunity to play as Dante.
Its not as good as Devil may cry 3, still it is a GREAT game!
