What people say about Forgotten Tales

What a fantastic solitaire game, it even has a fantastic story to go along with it.
I loved the features, the graphics, and the Solitaire game, but most of all, it has a very interesting story, enjoy!
- pennmom36, Big Fish Games

I love this solitaire game! It’s colorful, the characters are funny the story line is cute. It’s different than most of the other solitaire games which can get repetitive and therefore boring. I would recommend this game. - Mernon54, Big Fish Games

Although I'm not a huge Solitaire fan, I really do like this game.

A big part of that for me though is the Day of the Dead theme - here it has been done so well - and has included a great deal of authentic imagery and mythology that it's a must get for anybody who appreciates the culture surrounding this holiday.

Beyond the look - and - feel of the game the gameplay itself is mostly fun. As I said I'm not a huge Solitaire fan but this game has done a nice job of adding in enough variety to keep things interesting. I've probably played less than 1/4 of the way through but have not found anything to be especially challenging - but at the same time I've enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to any Solitaire fans even if they aren't Day of the Dead afficionados.

(I have a large collection of Day of the Dead art and hope to figure out a way to include this game in a small video frame of some type on the shelves with the rest of my collection!)

From my review on Gravis Ludus-
"There are a TON of Solitaire games like this on Android and iTunes, with many popping up on various online stores for computers. That means it is going to take something more than just pretty graphics to stand out against the competition. Forgotten Tales Day of the Dead has the ingredients it needs to stand out, all it needs is for fans to look in its general direction."
Fun game, Green Sauce Games, I actually learned a bit about Day of the Dead and was inspired to research it more. Thank you.

If you know me at all, you know I LOVE solitaire. I’ve been playing it ever since I was a wee lass, but golf solitaire has recently become my favorite version of the game. Imagine my delight when yet another title released featuring the enjoyable gameplay I’ve come to love. Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead had SO much promise: beautiful artwork, a fantastic theme, and interesting new power-ups and board goals I hadn’t seen done in other games — and yet against all odds it failed. As a lover of solitaire and supporter of indie game developers everywhere, it pains me greatly to have to write this review, but it is my sworn duty to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me Dios.

Let’s start with what this game does well, its presentation. Everything about the way Forgotten Tales looks and sounds is an absolute joy. I love the Day of the Dead theme, especially the story snippets with cultural references that lovingly incorporate the mythology behind this Mexican day of celebration. The artwork is beautiful, colorful and uniquely stylized. And there’s the soundtrack, all royalty-free licensed pieces, but the compositions are wonderful, reminding me of several movie scores I hold dear. I simply cannot express enough how much I enjoyed the look and feel of this game. Then we come to the gameplay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogv6bqeLgg0
Forgotten Tales uses the golf rule set, which involves playing cards in ascending or descending order until all have been removed from the board. There's a bit more to it than that, but it's a very easy version of the game. One might wonder how you can possibly mess that up, and I’ll tell you how; you make the draw pile NOT random. Just let that sink in for a second. A solitaire game that does not have a random draw deck. This one point, this fatal flaw, is what ruined the gameplay for me. Luck of the draw has ALWAYS been a part of solitaire no matter what version you’re playing, and finding ways to overcome it with strategic gameplay and the smart use of power-ups and wild cards is what makes the game so engaging. But when a useable card is drawn at least 75% of the time, it does NOT feel OR play right.

Looking at things objectively, I understand why this design choice was made. With the way the game is laid out with each level having 3 rounds (tableaus) to clear on only one deck of cards, too much randomness in the draw would make the later levels practically impossible to complete unless you got super lucky. However, this could have been avoided by splitting the three rounds into their own levels, thus making a random draw deck less punishing. Doing so would even out the value of the bonus cards, which heavily skew towards the “Joker” and “+5 to Draw Pile” cards, and would also add more focus to the unique board goals. Had these issues been addressed, I am confident Forgotten Tales would have been a near perfect iteration of the game I so love. Sadly, it is not to be.

So, it is with a heavy heart that I give you this news. I wanted to love Forgotten Tales: Day of the Day with every fiber of my being, but I simply cannot look past its sole flaw, and that is preventing me from recommending it to solitaire fans everywhere. Perhaps with a sufficient discount it may be worth it if only to experience the beautiful art and music. However, if you’re looking for the next great solitaire game along the lines of Faerie Solitaire and Chef Solitaire: USA, you’ll want to keep looking.

Bottom Line: Not Recommended.

Really well made solitaire game that has a unique theme.

The presentation is soild, but the Día de Muertos theme is really interesting and well done. Although the music is interesting it gets very repetitive after a while.

The gameplay is standard solitaire with quite a few specials on the 'board' and at your own disposal. This makes the game more interesting even if the last 10 of 100 levels overdo it and the number of specials that you have to overcome and use gets slightly annoying. Overall the game is really well balanced though.

There are some minor technical problems (sound effects are disabled if you restart the level after making a mistake) and I've encountered twice bugs so that I had to restart the level I was in.

If you like solitaire games this one is a clear recommendation and even if you aren't too keen on these kind of games the unique theme plus the few story elements that are thrown in might just be enough to make you play the game until the end. I had a fun time playing the game :)

Fogotten Tales: Day of the Dead
----------------------------------------------------------------
Fogotten Tales: Day of the Dead Is a nice Solitaire Game.
I have played 3 others on steam, 1 not so good, one pretty good, and one very good, I would rank this one up there with the one that is very good. I love the whole day of the dead theme, it works very well.
One of the biggest pluses this has over other solitaire games is Achievements and Trading Cards, this may seem like something small, but I can stress enough how much this is a deal breaking in buying games to myself and lots of others.
The Artwork looks high def and done very well, nice vibrant colors, My only dislike with the artwork is the way the Main guy is drawn, he just seems so very plain, maybe give him a little more style?
The music seems to go well with the game too, was not once annoyed by it lol
The power ups are a great touch and I can't see myself playing solitaire without them now lol
I like the way the game progresses, and the fact that it actually has a storyline unlike some games. The game seems a little easier compared to some other solitaire games i\'ve played, like I always seem to get the cards I need before it ends, Ran through the first 10 levels pretty fast, and had a perfect chapter, but none the less, I very much enjoyed this one down to the nitty gritty.
The game seems to have a TON of levels, so I assume its going to get harder As I progress.
I honestly can\'t think of anything bad to say about it other than it should have a regular solitaire mode option as well, and that it can seem to easy sometimes.
Overall a Great Game.

Pros:
+ Achievements
+ Trading Cards
+ Not too Difficult
+ Great Art
+ Power ups
+ An Actual Story line
+ LOTS of Levels
+ Decent Music

Cons:
- Almost feels a little too easy sometimes?
- Should have a REGULAR Solitaire mode as well.

Very fun Solitaire game that reminds me of Faerie Solitaire. Each round you play has a set of challenges that must be met to advance to the next round. Most of these challanges are things like get a 6 card combo without using any Clubs or get a 8 card combo without using face cards. To add to the challange some of the cards will have effects on them that need to be resoulved before you can play them, like find the key to open the locked card or elemanate all the water cards before you can use any of the burning cards. To help you on the way there are a number of tool you will find and be able to buy.

Nice casual game to kill some time and easy achievements too.

Forgotten Tales: Day of the Dead. Forgotten? Someone remembered. Enough to tell the tale in this game anyway.

What we have here is the higher/lower type of solitaire you'll find in several other games such as Regency Solitaire, Chef Solitaire, Faerie Solitaire, Legends of Solitaire, Goat Solitaire, and FarCry 4. As always, I want to know one thing. What does this particular solitaire game do to distinguish itself? From the other solitaire game I mean. Not like distinguish itself from the field of presidential candidates or anything. Having written jokingly about that before, and seeing what we have wound up with as the choice for the next president, I'm not going anywhere near that subject.

Considering that what we are playing is the same as many times before, Forgotten Tales spices things up with a story about a guy trying to get his wife back from the land of the dead, which really resonates with me because it reminds me of making love to my ex. What really makes Forgotten Tales stand out for me though are the variety of power-ups and special cards.

There are several special powers you can use, from revealing hidden cards, to crushing your enemies. Seeing them driven before you. Hearing the lamentations of their women. This is what is best in life. There are also cards that act as bombs, or rockets destroying everything in their path. Sometimes it's not so much solitaire as global thermonuclear war. Shall we play a game? No fighting though. Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room! Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends.

Ok, that's a lot of movies so getting back to the game at hand, if you like solitaire games, and I know you do, Forgotten Tales will help fill that dark void in your soul that yearns to devour the world. At least for a little while. Ia ia Cthulhu fhtagn!

Fun game - really enjoying it thus far. Smooth bug-free gameplay, vibrant colors and a nice soundtrack. The progression in game complexity is clear and gradual - very relaxing, which I personally seek in a casual game such as this. The only adjustment I had to make was with the cursor. The larger default game cursor was a bit floaty for me, so I switched to a regular cursor in the options section. It was all very intuitive and easy to take care of. Another Greenlight success story for these devs - great job and thank you - your efforts show in the final product.

It's a nice and casual game.
Don't expect to be challenged to the limit, because it is not that difficult (untill now?)
It's like the card game "patience", with some extras.

Found some minor bug where the achievements don't show up in real-time. I had to restart the game to be able to see my achievements.

Enjoying it thus far.
