What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is a great way to get our community involved. While we continue to build out the features and worlds of Destinations, we are releasing a set of creation tools, sample worlds, and documentation for the creators of our community.

Destinations is about exploring and sharing real and imaginary worlds - we can't wait to see the worlds our community will create.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We do not currently have a solid date - it will depend on community response and feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We have many ideas for feature additions in the pipeline, but we'd love to hear from our community: What would you like to see?”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Content creators will be able to use the Source 2 game engine, the same engine that Valve uses to create its own games and experiences, to create and share their own worlds with the VR community using the Destinations Workshop.

A few example scenes made via photogrammetry will be available at launch.

The application supports motion controllers as well as x-input to teleport within each world on both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift.

In the most recent release we've added multiplayer support, as well as customizable avatars and physics props.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Destinations will continue to be a free application.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are constantly iterating, and would love to hear feedback and suggestions from the community as we continue to work on Destinations.”

Is this some kind of joke being released in this condition? Camera is all jacked up on the Rift. Half the options did not work when we finally did get it to start. Even then, it seems to be just a 3D photo gallery. Also crashed the Rift software bad enough to force a reset on the PC.

Nice recent update. When you drop stuff on the ground or throw them at objects in the scene, they actually follow real physics, like bumping into the rock, rolling into a lower ground, etc. Not sure if Valve/creater manually marked objects, or it's an algorithm that identifies them. Pretty cool.

The best part is still getting to see Opportunity in real size. It's like Oculus 360 photos, but miles ahead.

A free platform, with three great default examples and Steam Workshop support for (potentially) endless content.

I had performance issues on most; still worth the experience, and as a platform, great.

Great product you should definitely check. It's like Altspace VR: simple from the first glance, but people find great things to do with limited amount of tools, and Destinations keep evolving.
Also, how can you miss ontent from Valve? It's like first Early Access release from them?

Amazing as is, insanely excited about the future potential. Some of the workshop content is already very impressive, great way to visit places or see things in a way you may never be able to otherwise. The Mars and Curiosity scene is a definite highlight.

Great app. Plenty to discover and see. Could be a bit easier to delete destinations from the library.

Pretty cool demo of what this scenery VR/3D workshop tool can do. Get it and experience. It is free. I can imagine us taking virtual vacations some day. This would be a great tool for NASA to use to raise funds for missions to other planets in our solar system. We would get a free virtual tour of the planet for donating. What an awesome time we live in. Happy am I !!!
